Fixing Caravan Gas Issues - Truma Hot Water System & Trumatic Heater

I finally get my gas issues fixed! While in Christchurch, I head to a gas specialist in the area to figure out what is going on with my Truma hot water system and Trumatic heater. Neither are running on gas!
Turns out, the heater just needed a clean, but the electrical board in the hot water system wasn't working and was replaced... not exactly cheap! Dan also spotted that my oven was sitting down and turns out a couple of screws much have wobbled out. It took a bit of manoeuvring, but we were able to put the oven back together again. He also persuaded me to get a gas detector installed.

Just catching up,going back to when you had that Grey water leak from the joint in that pipe under the floor,the reason why those type of joints can come loose is because the "U" shaped fittings that hold them to the floor sometimes become loose and allow the pipes to move with road vibration etc,loosening the joints.So when puting them back together,allow the pipe to slide through that "U" shape holder untill the joint is firm and in place.Also a good idea is to put silicone arround the pipe befor fitting them together.Silicone will make it water tight.Make sure those holders are screwed firmly to the floor and there is no movement in the pipes.You can also change them to a different spot if the screw holes have become too worn.Be sure to fill any small holes in the floor with builders Mastic from a Hardware store,any larger holes ,use peices of flat ply wood cut to the size needed,put Mastic on both the ply wood and the foor,and screw it on.This will keep dampness and insects out....Happy Camping/Touring.!

Hello - please read this: Because of the type of environment these unit live in - the contacts, will tend to "oxidize" When these contacts oxidize - they loose the ability to conduct current. ----- removing the motherboard, then scraping the contact points (the point where the "pins connect with the motherboard") will allow the system to work again. Most repair people do not know this. Most repair people will solve the issue the easiest "NOT THE CHEAPEST" way they can. Moisture is a real bitch. It will rot everything in this lifestyle. Hi Karen, great video of yours I came across, though it been 3 years, do you still have your caravan? ...it is easy for me to say now, and the fact I live in the UK ...the PC board I may have been able to repair it (availability of electronic parts) as I'm an electrical mechanical engineer, and yes, where are we when you need one! ...the issue you had with cooker, as they are mass produced, screws are not always tightened, and road movement would loosen them! ...after 20 years out of caravanning I'm looking to start again for UK and Europe travel ...so Karen, I would really like to know if your still using the caravan or another one ...Kind regards Norm's

@StephSancia

Hello Karen I'm looking for the opposite advice on how to get the cover off of one of these fires in my caravan. I have now been 11 months in my 2010 Bailey pageant monarch series 7 and I have been on a powered site as you know all winter and ironically there was a power cut yesterday within the district of Otago and I actually ignited the gas fire as a last resort to getting warm and after it had burnt off 10,500 dog hairs and some fluff it settled down and I was absolutely gobsmacked at how warm it was so I opened a couple of windows slightly and spent a few hours in absolute warm paradise just could not believe it so what I want to know is how to take the front cover off to clean it out and I can pull the top two sides down but they only come out a certain way and then stop so I'm looking for guidance how to get the rest of it off and I'm just assuming perhaps maybe the gas regulator knobs have to come out but how does it come out how do you get that front cover off so that I can go in armed with one vacuum cleaner and some cleaning rags. I also think it might be an idea too get a gas detector or is it a CO2 or something but anyway I digress it's a cold Sunday morning down here on the Taieri and I get my tow bar on my newer vehicle in 2 weeks so maybe traveling north on a tiki tour looking for my new home and my new roots. Happy Sunday Karen did you forget to put the clocks forward like me ?

@StephSancia
@StephSancia 2 года назад
@@TravellingK I managed to find the only tutorial which was from England and it is in my either liked by Steph Sancia or favorites playlist and it's quite simple-ish there is a middle screw center behind the fins at the top you undo that it's a Phillips and then there are two kind of clips either side pull out and then just lift off and then take out lift off the gas regulator knob and then it just comes out and there was a ton of fluff and mess and a blanket of just toot all over the gubbins so I hoovered it all out and gave it a good old clean and managed to get it back together with a little bit of difficulty but I left the central screw behind the fins out although I have kept it. The plug that goes in the fan speed regulator is a very strange plug and it looks as if it actually goes nowhere but behind the cover of the fan speed regulator that is a little printed circuit board and the plug just slots over that so half the plug is above and half is underneath and all is good but I will plow through my playlist and put the link here just in case you don't have time I mean it is as far as I can see the only one on RU-vid and it's actually a very very critically useful video back in a minute

after using a gas grill, (as part of a normal size oven in a house) for 6 years, melted control knobs and the same problems of stuff falling down/off, rusted screws, i think its just too hot for long term use. using the bottom element in the oven dosent seem to be so destructive to the rest of the oven. im so going to miss my toaster when i move into my MH, looks like the old camper toaster on the gas ring. feeling your pain Karen...

I’m not sure if it’s already been mentioned but your co2 alarm is way too high up the wall. He hasn’t installed it correctly. It’s meant to be low down, no more than a foot from the floor. Carbon monoxide is a heavy gas. The level slowly rises. If you waited until that alarm went off, you would already be dead. I strongly recommend you reinstall it yourself somewhere low ASAP.
@tomday4055
@tomday4055 5 лет назад
You are completely correct, it made me wonder if he knew what he was doing, It even states in the installation instructions the correct height it should be fitted which is certainly not 6 foot high. Karen I would contact him and put him straight as that mistake would cost him him gas registration if a complaint was filed.

This is something I need to look into and check! I've had people tell me it should be low and others say their alarm is installed there.

@@TravellingK Karen go to rvworldstore.co.nz and it has a very good summary of all you need to know about gas detectors for caravans etc. It also states that lpg is heavier than air so detector must be installed slightly above floor level, your tradey needs a good kick up the backside.

Having a look online, it seems like the gas alarms are installed low but the carbon monoxide can be high?? "Carbon monoxide (CO) is slightly lighter than air, so carbon monoxide alarms are effective when placed on the ceiling or high up on a wall"

I think you should be very careful about giving advice on a subject you know little about. The CO alarm was installed in the correct location and is in exactly the same place as ours on a brand new caravan. I'm no expert myself but my guess is Butane/Propane is lighter than air which is why caravans have vents in the floor under the gas appliances and in the gas locker.
