Fixing Movement States - #16 Creating A First Person Shooter (FPS) With Unreal Engine 4

In today's video we take a look at how we can fix our movement states, making sure the character is unable to both sprint and crouch at the same time.
We do this by checking to see if the character is already sprinting/crouching and move them out of that state before starting another.

Only this far in but your tutorials are amazing. I'm sure there are a variety of ways to go about the different commands and actions, but just seeing some real practical hands on use of Unreal engine and blueprints is exactly what I needed. Unreal recently released courses for UE4, and while I use them, and the information important, they are really lacking that tutorial that says "lets show you how to use blueprint by making a game in Unreal", which was very much needed. Thank you for the series.

Bug found. When sprinting and then crouch, you will find your self crouching, thats not the bug Btw, The bug starts when you leave the Run_action button (Shift) well holding your Crouch input your normal walk speed (600) will become your new crouch walking speed instead of 300. until you leave crouch and crouch once more it will fix it, until you shift, crouch, leave shift again than your walk speed will become your crouch speed again.

Can someone help me out? I have eveyrthing set up well in the blendspace for run and sprint and they are two different animations but when i hit shift to sprint it remains in the running animation and just moves faster?

a reload system would be great but i have watched your series and i think the animations you give as with the mesh does not include a reload animation and the animstarterpack animations are not compatible with your skeleton mesh

Haven't finished the series yet, but- I did what you have in this vid - but when I crouch and then press sprint it cancels the crouch, I'll follow the series anyway,so if you fix it later on,then great but if you haven't, please let me know.

anyone got an idea on fixing walking? when i press the forward key it wont always go into the animation. i thought maybe it had to do with my amimbp but everything looks to be the same as his

I have an issue with my sprint animation where once I start sprinting I cant get out of the animation. Ive been following the tutorials along perfectly and did everything he did, does anyone else have this issue and is there a way to fix it?

what about for turning off the aim camera when sprinting , did u ever get around to fixing that . mad motion sickness

Virtus when you sprint than hit crouch and release sprint you will go at the walkspeed in crouch mode. And when you sprint you can also aim.

There's still a problem, if you sprint then crouch, once you release sprint you get 600 running speed. You can fix that by putting a branch on Sprint Release with Crouch True condition, False -> Sprint True (False) > WalkSpeed 300 And the true links to the 600.

1... Edit top left corner 2... Project settings and scroll down 3... click input 4... Action mappings 5... created a button for that in action mappings 6... third person character and add in what you just made in action mappings and set up the true and false

One solution is to set up a branch nodes for both FlipFlop paths A and B to check if the Crouching Variable is set to the path you want expect. If not, direct it to the other side of the FlipFlop. EG FlipFlop A -> Branch (IsCrouching) False -> Set IsCrouching True -> Rest of FlipFlop A code & IsCrouching True directing to the FlipFlop B side. Vice Versa with FlipFlop B.

if any one has a problem where if you aim down sights and sprint at the same time the camera is a bit wonkey i have a solution first: at the end of ur ads script make a variable if right mouse button is pressed the variable becomes false if it is released it becomes true now set a branch in sprint script on the if pressed, and let the condtion be variable == false now hook the false up to the branch shown at 2:00 and the true to the other one hope this helps sorry if my explanation is a bit wonkey

What you'll want to do here is to make an additional branch off of InputAction Crouch Released under the condition of Sprint True. True sets Crouch as false. False sets Crouch to false and resets the movement speed to walk speed. That way you don't release crouch only to have your sprint cut short.

Hey, these are great tutorials. I had an idea though, instead of using the whole model for the gun, it makes the gun look weird on screen. I thought we could use the thing you have been doing now for a world model, like how they do in source mod, and then just make a separate arms model (Like in the first person unreal template) to make the gun look a little better on screen. In the ThirdPersonCharacter Viewport thing, you'd just click the mesh of the full body model and Click on "Owner No See" and for the seperate arms model, instead use "Only Owner See". So it would have a viewmodel/worldmodel like most other games have. :b

The minimum Axis value for Speed in Sprint_BS is 600 but when I sprint my character won't move until I hold W!
