we repair the subframe on the '70 nova junk yard rescue project and paint it with POR 15. We also prep and undercoat the bottom of the car in preparation for re-assembling the chassis and suspension.
I will have a detailed view and explanation of this in the next video. There are 2 holes for alignment in the firewall location of the subframe and body. I use a 6” extension to align it there. Then I verify a measurement from back two subframe bolts diagonally to a fixed location on the chassis (the front leaf spring pocket locations are a good spot). Once your measurement is the same on both sides and those pins are aligned you can snug that thing up! (95 ftlbs on the stock style rubber bushings). DO NOT FORGET THE METAL SPACERS that go on top of the bushings at the firewall location. You will never get your front body panels to line up right without it!
Look at those shit gm welds!!! You need to fully weld the 2 half of each side of the subframe. You can see where the "union" welder used an arc welder just fast enough to leave metal drips on the 2 sides!!!
Hahaha every one of these gm subframes is booger/snot welded like that. Welder was probably half hungover and stoned from the night before when he slapped this thing together on the assembly line!
