Fixing Supply Memory Error on HP Laserjet

If you're trying to use an aftermarket toner cartridge and running into "Supply Memory Error" problems, this is how you fix it. Ignore all the other advice you find on Google Searching, this is the only thing that will work with a current version printer (as of the publish date of this video).

Thanks Brent! I just did this procedure for all three color aftermarket toner cartridges. It works like an absolute charm!! Seems like all the other videos are just BS Thank you for sharing! You saved my bacon

In my case, I was able to pop out the old chip and did the same on the new cartridge. Then, I pushed in the chip from the old cartridge into the new cartridge. It was very easy and fast. No cutting. Now, it prints fine but will not show the toner level for this cartridge. For me, this is fine since I change cartridges by looking at the finished print to determine if it is dark enough.

@@bpchristensen Brent, I tried the yellow chip and barely scraped the chip with my tweezers when extricating it but got it installed on the aftermarket cartridge. Before changing any more chips I did a supply report thinking that the yellow may print out bolder than the others but all it said was the yellow was low and the yellow stripe was still very pale on the report. Do you think the chip was damaged? The tweezers only left a very light line on the chip. Thanks, Claude

This is the only solution that worked for our office's HP LaserJet Pro m254ds and the message about "low ink" levels is a small price to pay when the damn thing finally works. The whole situation is so absurd. This really shouldn't be the right solution in 2019.

Brent, if I have to cut the old cartridge up, how do carefully cut or remove the chip from the non-HP without damaging anything

Usually it will be a smilier process to the one I show here where you need to cut away a little bit of plastic that will hold the chip in place. An Exacto knife can come in pretty handy.

This makes the assumption that the replacement cartridge fits the same size chip, which in my case does not. So no fix for me.

Bummer. I tried three different brands of aftermarket toner from Amazon and this trick worked for all of them.

@@brentchristensen5877 I figured mine out the hard way... did the same exact thing. worked like a champ. I'm jut searching around to see anyone beat the box on the low supply warning. Nice work Brent. I love the videos that show the easy tab... thats from the after market models. nice try, you have to break it off like you show. You saved me from having to make a video :-)
