Looking forward to the launch of this one! I started re doing the hatches on the old plywood Catamaran I just bought. The hull shape looks very similar to this one. It will be interesting to see how it slices and planes at the same time. With a wider square bottom at higher speeds I would expect a slight bit of planning... I could be wrong.
We are certainly gonna find out! Previous owner said it went 12 knots, easy. Im not so sure because itw quite heavily built, all 9mm plywood and loads of framing. Overbuilt compared to my wharram, i think, which is plenty strong.
You can use a spanish windlass instead of clamps. Tie loops of ropes bigger than the piece you wanna clamp and twist with a stick or screwdriver. No more rusty heavy clamps onboard.
Oh that's a great suggestion! I've done a bit of research prompted by your comment. A windlass would work when I can get around the join. spring clamps are light and cheap and would work on small things. Could use copper nails (and leave them in, actually my wharram was originally built like this, as recommended in the plans). I also remember seeing in a museum, the clamp the vikings used to hold clinker planks. It was two bits of wood, with a leather strap holding them together, then a wooden wedge was hammered in the other end. making a narrow C clamp with a pretty long reach!
I have a small jib with wire run luff. It’s an original cut jib for my navigator but I don’t use it. Where are you next week? I ‘m the guy who pulled up next to you when you were heading down harbour to Okahu Bay last Thursday.
