man, i;m so jealous! that's an awesome little boat to get for free. i'm not gonna be finding any deals like that here in the desert, 12 hours from the nearest ocean lol

yes I know. I'm looking for someone to relieve my of my command of my keeler so I can specialize in weird multihulls / only boats that can park on the beach!

Plenty of area on the deck on that outrigger. Looks to be 20 ft (6 meter)? Displacement would allow some added weight, which gives you some freedom in what you add to it. I had a pigeon live with me for 5 months one time, I fed him seeds. I think same as people, the adolescent birds appear more capable than they actually may be LOL. My pigeon finally took off one day. 2 weeks later he flew over to where I was surfing near a fishing pier and did 3 circles above, then flew away again. Funny how animals will ask for help.

it's 7.2 meters! and 4 something wide! the platform really needs a net so you can make use of the space! and since the mast is in the big hull you get one big uninterrupted space, on a boat that really isn't that big!

@@dominictarrsailing Good size! Bet it will be quick. Whats the beam? I actually picked up a 23 1/2 foot hull a few weeks ago. Was considering a tri, but tacking outrigger looks good!
@dominictarrsailing
@dominictarrsailing Год назад
@@zackariasthepirate I havn't actually sailed on a tri myself. Surely a well designed tri would be good, but sailing tacking outriggers has shown me that I prefer the ama to windward! less drag just dances over the waves. seems like trimaran has two bad tacks! proa two good ones! but surely I just need to try a well designed tri, with big amas.

This was a good video! Multiple highlights! When you build a tiny cabin on it can I come and stay?

haha of course you can! Not sure when I'll get to that because turns out it needs more work before it's ready to sail to the mainland, but anyway there is a guest cabin in Yes Let's and it's more roomy than the cabin in mihi would be!

Great that you can take on someone else's dream boat now they can't handle it anymore. At least, I'm assuming the story! It looked like it was built to plans? Called what and designed by whom?
@dominictarrsailing
@dominictarrsailing Год назад
more or less. It was passed around a couple of owners before it found me. it's a KIR4/8 designed by Michael Savins. There is a link to the (free!) plans from the first video in this series ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fx4UpMX6HhI.html

sorry, i think the designer is actually Oyvind Gulbrandsen. www.tackingoutrigger.com/robert_gillet.html

@@dominictarrsailing ok thanks for that. I was thinking about what you said about performance; Pacific tack good, Atlantic tack bad, and wondered if the Atlantic tack would improve if you had a couple or three crew putting their moveable ballast to work out on the hiking deck?
@dominictarrsailing
@dominictarrsailing Год назад
Ah yes I think it would. I think this is really the upper limit of size that really makes sense for this configuration because of this problem. The boat needs to be small enough that the crew weight is significant. It's still getting pushed down into the the water though. I reckon the most promising looking version of this sort is the tahitian style. They look really fast with massive gaff rig and large hiking pole, see also Gary Dierking's Tamanu

The bird is a petrel it lives on water full time & cant fly off from land. they would get dazzled by the lights of the airport and turn up there after a storm
