First of all, I was not even aware I had an idle issue with the Carburetors. The more you learn, then more you realize how much you don't know! Hope you enjoy and learn something too. Music: www.bensound.com
Glad to see you happily tuning and wrenching on the Vair! As you're learning tuning and balancing the carbs is crucial. Another thing that will cause the cars to run rough or stall, can be traced to vacuum leaks. Vacuum leaks seem to have a more negative effect on PG ones, but my Corsa wasn't running right, and part of it was vacuum leaks and the timing. Keep up the good work!
One tip. I have a 66 Impala and 64 Corvair. I bought the replica 60’s manuals as well. But they don’t account for modern gas. Gas in the 60’s burnt way faster. Timing is off as far as those manuals are concerned. I add 10• advance to the impala and it never ran better.
I fought stumbling, backfiring and idle issues for a month. Rebuilt carbs, installed electronic ignition and nothing worked. The problem turned out to be....centrifugal advance + vacuum advance + 4 degrees was too much timing on de-acceleration, causing mis-fires. Everything was set to original specs. Currently the vacuum line is plugged to stop the vacuum advance and it runs good. If anyone can explain why i had too much vacuum advance i sure would like to hear about it. remember everything was stock.
Put never seize on full threads otherwise it won t work coat all threads evenly Use golf t s to plug vacuum lines b sure to plug each end of line Good luck
Sounds great ! Your persistence paid off , Are You going to put on your lower shroud doors ? That will affect how long it takes for your engine to warm up, During hot weather your engine will run hot do to much heat coming back in off the exhaust manifolds. Again great job on synchronizing the carbs thanks for the update & the video.
I do plan on putting all the lower shrouds back on. Old ones were too beat up to reuse so I've had them off for now. I appreciate the advice and your comment! :)
I am having a similar problem, but as I drive, the car shakes a bit, but only when cruising, and the right carburator has no airflow but good compression. Any suggestions? I've tried all I could..
What if you were to switch the left and right carbs? That would let you know if it's the carb or the cylinder bank. My guess is it's some stupid little thing in the carb. I have the same problem and it turns out the guy who rebuilt it put in a bigger brass needle (looks like an obelisk) in the hole that allows for the accelerator pump to discharge gas...I'll throw it on tomorrow - fingers crossed
Try sea foam in a spout can It will clean out All passages while driving.it really works. Follow mixing directions to the letter I think 1oz to 1 gallon Good luck
Who is helping you because I definitely could use there help lol I just bought new carbs and it still stalling I have watched all of your videos about the carbs but still same problems
A guy who offered me help from a Corvair Facebook forum, I would suggest you post on one of the forums asking if anyone is willing help you over the phone. Goodluck!
