Episode 122 - Fixing the windows, and most of the door actually! This week Im going to push on with the entire door trim/workings.

BACKGROUND : Welcome back guys to my Porsche 928 restoration! I bought the cheapest 928 in the UK and its going to be a battle to bring her back to life...
... and to make matter worse, Im not a mechanic! Im just a regular guy 'having a go', and it doesn't always work out!

Great progress. I can’t emphasize the seals and window scrapers enough. Improves the look, function and seal.

Thanks - I have new lower/outer curved rubber, will get new scrapers… let’s see how the guides come up, if not I’ll replace.

Good on you for persevering! That door card looks really good. I would probably ditch the central locking as these after-market kits can look a little "Halfords"... missing a bit of Porsche sophistication. A good test would probably be to ask yourself - "would I put this on my 911?". Brilliant video series that I binged on! I like the way you make everything look so easy 😁

Thanks for your comment :) yes, totally get the Halford comment... as far as I know it is one of those cheap ebay jobs. But... its fitted and works. Its invisible apart from the remote control, so I'll leave it in. Thanks for watching :)

The window motor on the 928 is the same Bosch unit used on old Saab saloon cars. Make sure teeth are same number

Mr Gibbs. Thank you for all you videos. I’ve bought a 928 barnfind some years ago. It’s now a driveable, but it’s still a driveable project. Thanks to all of your videos ( I’ve watched them all since the beginning) my landshark is now more or less finished. I am glad to learn from your knowledge, and get some entusiasm from you as well. Good progress Todd, it is nice to get some of those annoying problems (like the window) sorted out. You may find that with time and use, the electric motor will get quieter and operates better. I had a very annoying judder with one of my popup headlight motors but, after a couple of months use, operates smoothly and as it should. I spent hours, seemingly unsuccessfully, trying to sort it.

Ah good point. It seems all clean and free inside so let’s hope it gets quieter…. Well it will even if it gets removed :)

I think you will want to get the central locking working. I find I have to be a bit of a contortionist to reach that door lock knob to manually lock/unlock (my control unit was defective when I got the car so for a while it was my only choice). The reach back for the seat belt is bad enough, but those door locks are a real pain to operate manually.

Hi Jack, I didn’t really show in the video but it’s all working. So I can do it manually or via a remote control.

Mine is pre-electronic locking - it’s all vacuum. The one I’ve fitted is a cheap after market ones

I would go with the central locking, once it is working correctly it is so much easier to use. Also don't forget to check the window felts before final assembly.
