In this video I show a old air tank i had that i fixed up. Always be carefull when working with compressed air! Always follow safety instructions that come with air equipment. And the coupler i showed is just a idea i came up with, so you you would best off not trying that! Thanks for Watching!!!

I only put mine on 80! It has a red warning line at 125, but I won’t go that high! Mine only leaks 5 pounds in a week,so I’d check it out!

I was always told that the plumbers tape was used for liquids and pipe dope was used for gasses.

Yeah that is usually true but teflon does work on air fittings. Thanks for Watching!!!

Yepp, i hated that red, i like a bright red or a deeper red, that shade is just kind of there and not doing anything haha Thanks for watching!!!

Thanks for the video. I bought a used one last weekend at a yard sale. I had to repair the hose already with a repair kit from Harbor Freight. After fixing it, I put some air in it and sprayed it with soapy water. There's leaks all around!! So, I'm gonna go back and Teflon tape everything which I hope will help.

I have the same project waiting in the wings to do. I even chose to paint it medium blue like Ford Corporate Blue. Thanks for the hints on stripping.

I know this is a old video. But thanks a lot for sharing. I bought a tank from a guy real cheap. So I thought I would modify it. You got me in the right direction

Thanks man. You really got a lot of questions answered for me about my air tank. You see I have to replace the entire gauge setup on my 10gal air tank. It was all mangled when I got it.

Your welcome! I hear ya! Glad to help out! Sometimes that is best thing to do, this one really needed a new gauge, but the old one is still working for now. thanks for watching!!!

a little one of my tricks here, cause you helped me on my mower a few months back....when working with teflon tape, put your thumb on the tape just outside of the thread area to hold it down. so your first wrap will start at approx 45* and the second and final wrap will lock it down. that way the tape is not chasing you around the threads as you wrap. take care
@fnaguitarplayer9
@fnaguitarplayer9 6 лет назад
Appreciate the tip, sometimes it works for me, but other times i don't have any luck at all with that tape haha Thanks for Watching!!!

Thanks for the video, I think maybe using pipe dupe instead of the teflon tape will be better, I had leaks on mine using that tape. Donyboy73 has a video on his shop air compressor setup. I enjoy you videos, hope you don't mind me mentioning about the teflon tape. Bill

Hey I could never get that thread tape to seal, so I said the hell with it and just used pipe dope, however it looks like you did a fine job
@fnaguitarplayer9
@fnaguitarplayer9 10 лет назад
I hear ya, that might actually be better, that stuff seems to seal great. Something people used to do if they didn't have the tape or dope, use oil based paint, it would take longer to dry but it works in a bind haha Thanks, the stuff is tricky to work with. Thanks for Watching!!!

On the back side of the input port there's no O ring to air-tight seal that connection through the threads of that connector, so when you've got the air "on" its going to leak around there a little. It will completely shut it off if you leave it tightly closed. Just a guess ass to the source of your leak. I know this because I drilled one out to make a "1/2" to 1/4 npt T" instead of buying 1/2" tee and reducers since a 1/2" x 1/4 x 1/4 or even a 1/2 x 3/8 x 3/8 tees do not exist, so the adapters were going to cost me more than the tank. Still trying to determine how to braise/jb weld the pop off valve holes.

I need to replace the manifold (red thumb wheel) on my MVP tank but I am having trouble finding one that I am sure will fit. Can you help me out? my valve and gauge are identical to yours and I caught the MVP name on top of the manifold.
@fnaguitarplayer9
@fnaguitarplayer9 10 лет назад
I'll try to haha The only places I can think of where you can find what you need would either be ebay or a place that sales air compressor parts, I know harbor freight just sales valves and fittings, but i don't remember seeing the manifold there, I did type in air tank manifold on ebay and there and quite a few came up, they should have the specs on it and you can check with yours to see what matches. Hope this helps, and sorry I can't be more specific! Thanks for Watching!!!

Good video. I was going to ask how you got the manifold off, but after reading the comments, I seen ideas from others. I'm going to try some of them.

fnaguitarplayer9 well I was able to get the manifold out by using some penetrating oil and a socket and breaker bar. Came out fairly easy. I put in the other parts I needed and everything is working fine. Thanks again and you’re welcome.

what tricks did you use to remove the manifold from the tank prior to painting. Did you use heat or just brute force? Everything I have just rounds off the hexangonal edges of the manifold. Please share with me your secrets.......
@fnaguitarplayer9
@fnaguitarplayer9 10 лет назад
Well mine came right off no problem with just a wrench, you could heat it up that usually always helps, but if your using acetylene torch be careful the brass could melt its similar to aluminum. propane torch might be best. If its really stubborn you can do the quench method, heat it up and throw cold water on it that will usually shock it loose, or if you have time, soak it down with PB blaster and let it soak over night. You could also try a pipe wrench on it, they usually won't slip, especially on brass. Hope this helps! Got to hate when something is froze up!

I have a 12 gal air tank that was more than 15 years old. I needed to replace the entire assembly with a kit. NO AMOUNT of pressure with a monkey wrench, etc would budge it . I sprayed WD 40 on it , let it sit over night , and with a moderate amount of arm strength only , it turned loose easily.

I'm trying this on mine. Thanks for the idea.

Where can you get these parts I can't find them and I don't know the name is someone knows please respond thank you
@fnaguitarplayer9
@fnaguitarplayer9 4 года назад
You used to be able to find a kit to do this, they may still be available on ebay or amazon, but not real sure, i just used parts i had on hand. You could use off the shelf fittings but it won't have the thumb wheel valve. Thanks for Watching!!!

not familiar with tread sizes. is 1/2 inch NPT for the part that screws into the tank common and is 1/4 inch NPT common for the hose connection and gauge connection. I dont want to buy the wrong size on e-bay and learn the hard way. MVP tanks come from China and I hope they are using standard common sizes. what is your opinion?
@fnaguitarplayer9
@fnaguitarplayer9 10 лет назад
I know for sure that the hose connection is a 1/4" NPT but i'm not 100% sure on the part going into the tank, but that sounds right to me, I would imagine the tank side is standard size as well. I do know that a push mower's muffler (the type that screws in, not bolt on) is 1/2" pipe so if you had one of them laying around that would give you a comparison. I just can't say 100% sure on the part that goes into the tank.
