Fixing malware issues on a WordPress site can be a complex process. If any of the suggestions below don't work and your site is completely messed up I'll show you how to start from scratch like I did.

Here's a general guide to help you get started:
Identify the Malware: Before you can fix the issue, you need to identify what kind of malware is affecting your WordPress site. Common types include backdoors, malicious redirects, pharma hacks, and more.
Backup Your Site: Before making any changes, it's crucial to create a backup of your WordPress site. You can use plugins like UpdraftPlus or manually backup your files via FTP and your database through phpMyAdmin.
Isolate the Infected Files: Scan your website files to identify the infected ones. You can use security plugins like Wordfence or Sucuri, or you can scan manually by reviewing your files for suspicious code.
Clean Infected Files: Once you've identified infected files, you'll need to clean them. Depending on the severity of the infection, you may need to replace or delete the affected files. Be cautious not to delete essential WordPress files.
Update WordPress Core, Themes, and Plugins: Outdated software is a common entry point for malware. Make sure your WordPress core, themes, and plugins are up to date to patch any vulnerabilities.
Change Passwords: Change all passwords associated with your WordPress site, including the admin password, FTP passwords, and database passwords. Choose strong, unique passwords to enhance security.
Review User Accounts: Check your WordPress user accounts for any suspicious or unauthorized users. Delete any unknown or unnecessary accounts and ensure that each user has appropriate permissions.
Implement Security Measures: Install security plugins like Wordfence, Sucuri Security, or iThemes Security to enhance your site's security. These plugins can help prevent future malware infections and provide real-time monitoring.
Check .htaccess File: Malware often injects malicious code into the .htaccess file to redirect traffic. Review your .htaccess file for any suspicious redirects or unfamiliar code and remove them.
Monitor Site Activity: Regularly monitor your site for any unusual activity, such as unauthorized file changes or suspicious login attempts. Security plugins can help automate this process.
Consider Professional Help: If you're unsure about handling the malware cleanup yourself or if the infection is severe, consider hiring a professional security expert or a service specializing in WordPress malware removal.
Prevent Future Infections: Once your site is clean, take proactive measures to prevent future infections. This includes regular backups, keeping your software updated, using strong passwords, and implementing security best practices.
Remember that dealing with malware can be complex, and it's essential to take thorough steps to ensure your WordPress site's security. If in doubt, seek assistance from professionals or your web hosting provider.

How did you confirm that you did not backup and restore the infection in your database when you backed up and restored everything else?

The error report I received from HostMonster didn't include any databases. I took it on good faith that they were fine. Once I restored everything there hasn't been any issues. I also installed the WordFence plugin as well and that's been keeping my sites clean.
