@@SirEnderGaming I mean is that not a point to Laura though? I mean because she is great enough to have her hand in marriage be a point in and of itself That is much more of a point to her is it not? Don't get me wrong he is a lucky man to have her as his equal, but If she is wonderful enough to be a point in this game I believe the point is her own. (To anybody who may eventually get upset by this, It is all meant in jest please don't get mad with the folks here)

I think part of the reason why this is so good is that we got to see it develop. Sure, the same thing happened in Campaign 1, but we never go to see the characters at the start, so we missed out on a lot of development of their relationships. With Fjord and Jester, we saw them go from childishly flirting with each other to deeply caring about each other, and not being afraid to show it. We've seen every subtle development to their relationship (Jester complimenting Fjord as she knows he's self-conscious about himself, and Fjord throwing away his pride a lot to act goofy and make her laugh) and it makes the relationship a lot more real, and makes this moment a lot more satisfying.

Love the animation, but watching Laura's face during this exchange was just incredible. She'd been pushing from the start to develop something between Jester and Fjord, but Travis had gone on record a few times declaring that he hated roleplaying romance. Grog makes a lot of sense in that light. He wasn't oblivious to Laura's plans, he just wanted to avoid it. His growth in finally allowing Fjord to acknowledge feelings toward Jesterlooked like a total wave of relief on her face. And I'm pretty sure Travis very nearly changed colors right before he decided to do that. Also, Fjord gets a hat trick.

And experience the seas it may traverse, whether of water, air, hyperspace, or transplanar magical shifting. This is what a ship is.

Its a great scene. we also get to watch as a married couple gets to roleplay the starting of a relationship.

I mean look at what there is to compare in this campaign. Beau and Yasha? My god that is just cringy at the best of times. There is just nothing about that comes off as romantic at all. Veth and Yeza, I mean that is played up to much as a joke to take seriously and really Veth should have been long since retired by this point as there is really no reason for her to be with the group at this point. Back in season 1. Scanlan and Pike had a lot of.....creepy vibes to be honest. Vex and Percy was very interesting but a bit hammy at times but sweet none the less. Vax and Keyleth, ya didn't care for that. Vax and Gilmore, that was pretty good and it ended in such a bittersweet way that gave it a real touch that made it stand out from all the rest.

@@dseray9494 Beauyasha is certainly much more awkward, sort of by design. The early stages of their knowing one another, Beau was very lustfully attracted to Yasha, unfortunately unaware of the fact that Yasha was mourning the loss of her wife. Time and distance (caused by Yasha being away from the party) has afforded her the chance to be more genuine in her attraction, but it still comes across as awkward because neither of them are all that suave; Beau usually relies on her attractiveness and blunt nature to 'get things done' as it were, and Yasha has a low opinion of herself so she'd be very hard pressed to make the first move. Notice that neither made any moves until someone in the party they trusted were like 'Hey so they are MEGA into you just fyi'

@@kinghoenn3478 the beau yasha combo feels super forced, to have a gay couple for diversity instead of naturally occurring. I could picture a story of one of them being straight and something dramatic happen to the party that brings out a more romantic sense to a friendship and having it develop from there. Instead beau was ho-ing it up left and right and just happened to get tasha in her crosshairs. They haven't had any meaningful interactions imo.

I totally read it as Laura trying to ease the tension with comedy because that is what she did in the previous session when things got a little real for Fjord. Give Travis "No romance in my dnd" Willingham a way out of the situation if he needed to.

I won't lie, I was devastated. 😂 That said, it had been a long time coming, and I certainly don't begrudge the Fjorester shippers getting their fairy tale ending. Part of shipping Widojest is the angst of knowing - deep down - it was never gonna happen.

You should watch it. Their relationship goes through so many stages to get to this point. But the one thing that carries through all the awkward flirtation and a little heartache... Is that Fjord trusts Jester with everything. The show is chock full of heart to hearts between the two of them that really just makes this moment all the sweeter.

Roll to seduce? So you mean roll to see if you can rape the other character without the player's consent?

@@grins9882 Hunter Duncan already said it was a good thing that there was no "roll to seduce", and IMHO that should not be a thing, although there are gamer groups who treat it as if it were a thing and the horny bard who seduces every NPC of his preferred gender is a running gag for some. D&D has no "seduction" skill, it's persuasion/diplomacy and even a high result on such a social role should never be treated as if it was mind control, it just means that that the character is very persuasive and the target character regards it as compelling and will react favorably to it within the boundries of what their character would possibly do. The character doesn't get brainwashed or lose his mind in the process. So if the target character has a reason not to engage with the seducing character in a romantic/sexual way despite finding them very charming, likeable and attractive, they are entirely free to decline such an offer no matter how high the roll was. Critical Role rarely used social skill rolls when interacting with fellow PCs at all, except for circumstances in which a character already is in a state of losing control (like rolling to calm a character down who panicked), which IMHO is generally the preferable way to handle inter-character roleplay, not only in regard to romance

Yeah, it might be a bit less romantic than just leaning in and kissing someone like we see in the movies...but real life isn't like the movies. I bet those girls (that were still kids as well I might add) were expecting that from you. They might have seen you as a joke back then but I bet, looking back, they realise how much of a gentleman you were and potentially even feel bad for making fun of you. One of the biggest fears I have. Is being seen as one of those creeps that just expect a girl to want to do something with me...to the point I probably have annoyed my partners by constantly asking "Are you sure?!" Doing intimate moments...but fuck it...I rather be seen as a bit of a lame moron than a fucking rapist so ya know....

Personally, I think asking someone "may I kiss you" is actually incredibly romantic.

To be fair, most kisses tend to be the result of passion or affection overwhelming the characters who are attracted to each other. (A good animation example would be in The Dragon Prince.) Having them take a second to ask could kill the atmosphere narrative wise, or be very sweet depending on the set up like here.

Few examples of consent in media? What? Where? Unless you mean few examples of people audibly consenting to each other, which makes sense since most romances don't require it as the two people are "clearly" in love with each other and both know it.

I still don't understand that. I think Jester had a bigger chance of getting together romantically with almost anyone else in the M9 than with Caleb.

Two people who fall in love because of mutual respect and care for one another built on healthy boundaries and communication... that's what Fjord and Jester have. Sure it lacks the "passion" we see in movies and tv shows... but movies and tv shows often portray dysfunction as passion. Caleb still needs a lot of healing himself and a lot of widowjest (I was someone who flip-flopped between widowjest and Fjorester so I can attest to this) have this idea that somehow Jester's personality will"fix/heal" Caleb. The thing is that in healthy relationships it shouldn't be on one person to "heal/fix" the other person. Caleb needs to move forward on his own with the help of his friends supporting him in his journey.
