Debra Finton same experience. I was the only black person in my classes at school, in local area etc... made to feel other in most it not all scenarios. It got better because I made few friends with other black girls who came to the school but that wasn’t until year 9.

Pete Camiolo I’m from Gloucestershire too. I’m not black but Indian so still ethnic amongst white people. Prejudice definitely exists, especially in places like Gloucestershire where it’s 99% white. Because they don’t interact with a diverse range of people, they get most their thoughts and views from the media. You always feel ‘other’ and have to act an acceptable ‘white’ way to fit in. But say you go to london, which is 50% ethnic and way more diverse. There’s less prejudice and people are less ‘ignorant’ due to having met and interacted with different races and not just their own. I have one other Nigerian friend with me (thank fuuu) but like twigs, I cannot wait to leave lol

It’s like using the nickname given to you by people who hate you as a badge of honor. “Black” has no culture attached to it, it was a label given stolen people as slaves similar to the tag they would pierce into the ear of cattle. All we’re doing by arguing who’s black and who isn’t is arguing who closer identities with a slave trait and and the circumstances those slaves were given by their masters after arriving in America stripped of true culture.

You definitely can not be from England nor have you ever probably been here. American world view is so small and quite ignorant at times. Super annoying. She lived in the midlands as a child which is a majority white demographic, but family was from Birmingham which has a relatively substantial black population. Then moved to London at 17 which has a much larger black population and is extremely multicultural, very easy to interact with black culture at that point. We had a carnival in central London every year with over 2 million people attending, black people are in most places wherever you go in London, her style, music and swag tells you she clearly identifies somewhat with black culture not to mention, being seen as “other” in a majority white community as a child is more than enough for her to relate to the black experience. Black is not fetishised here at all it’s you Americans that fetishize us. Racism exists, but it’s far less obvious and blatant than America.
