its crazy how its come to this statement. The FK8's came out in '17 and are still being sold over 'their' MSRP and are being sold closer to the FL5's MSRP.
First off I'm happy that Honda is still making an ICE 6 speed Civic Type R.. however, the FK8 will always hold a special place in our hearts. The first Civic Type R sold here in the US and the best FWD car on the market. The body lines on the FK8 are incredible and IMO the FL5 just looks so long and wide. Both are incredible cars because, at the end of the day, they're pretty much the same car just with different exterior and interior styling.
I haven't liked the design of The Civic, since the 99-00 Si.. But, when I saw this new FL5, It finally felt like Honda was back. This new car is clean and classy.. and it will only look better with mods.. just like the old school civics.. Kudos to the Honda designers. 👍🔥
I’m a proud ‘18 FK8 owner and personally think they really dropped the ball designing the FL5. The FK8 is so much more fun and aggressive looking. It looks like it lives in the future. I just love it.
Antoher advantage of the FL5 is it's a blank canvas. The FK8 came with a "body kit" but FL5 lets you decide what direction you want to go with your build. Like Hondas of old.
For me the fk8 looks way better than the fl5. Idk fk8 looks so stylish and agressive and you would have never mistaken it to the other car brands. Fl5 looks like a boring-ass Hyundai. Fk8 is one of the few modern cars that i really appreciate.
Great points! As a current FK8 owner I absolutely love the new FL5! I bought my fk8 new back in 2018 and I don’t know if I’ll be able to part with it lol.
As a 2021 FK8 owner, I absolutely love it! My first ever manual transmission car and its a joy to drive on and off the track! I like the exterior styling of both the FK8 and FL5 but for some reason, the rear of the FL5 still hasn't sit well with me. It looks kind of like a Kia Stinger and I don't really like that styling but everything else about the FL5 is dope! I don't see myself switching from the FK8 to the FL5 only because of the similar performance but if something unfortunate happens to the FK8, I would for sure get the FL5. Thanks for the review Dustin! And I totally agree with you, the FK8 styling is a huge reason as to why I like the car and why every time I take it on the street, I get thumbs up from so many other drivers :)
Have you seen the rear of the fk8? It's dmb looking, huge hatch like a station again with rear fake vents? Who the fk are you trying to trick, teenagers?
@@XOX-fs4ww To each their own, i’m not a teenager but still like the looks and the way it drives 🤷🏾♂️ Best thing to take away from the FL5 is at least now there is another body style for those that didn’t like the FK8 👌🏾
I've been going back and forth and really want to pull the trigger on an FL5. Right now I can't justify paying the crazy dealer markups. The main reason I want the FL5 over the FK8 is the styling. I'm turning 40 this year and think the FL5 is more suited to my taste. I think a subtle Spoon FL5 would be awesome. Now don't get me wrong, I would totally get an FK8 and throw the J's Racing catalog at it too.
If if it has a type R badge on it I'm going to love it, but the fk8 has my heart. I love the overly aggressive styling of it. It just fits the nature of the car imo.
Never owned a civic type r, was always in STIs. Oh man, this might rub the wrong way with subi fan boys, used to be one, but my fl5 is absolute bliss. What a freakin fun, fast, awesome looking piece of perfection. Best car purchase I have ever made.
FL5 bro is going to be an epic build , it’s a great platform to work from and then once you start putting the goodies on, it’s gonna be Gran Turismo v soon 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥
I feel like in terms of what is better. The fk8 is like that raw r32 ready for anything and the fl5 is like that r33 400r; I wonder what the next type r will be if they keep this up. Both are amazing.
Nothing bad at all about the FL5, brilliant car. That being said the FK8 just has that x factor, evokes more emotion I think. People either love or hate the looks of the FK8 but everyone has something to say about it. Feels like it has more character, it stands out, you can't ignore it😅 for me I'll never sell mine, I'm way too attached to it
I currently have an 04 em2 civic and I am planning on getting the fl5 typer after I graduate university. Keep up the amazing work Dut cause I always appreciate your amazing content!
I’ve been waiting for this video!! I love the selection of cars you have it’s one of the widest list of realistic dailies and toys for nonyoutubers like me can actually get lol…between the FL5 and the GR Corolla for me
Civic Type Rs are not made to be drag cars out the factory. Something I felt I had to mention. I see so many videos showing the FK8 and FL5 in a straight up drag race. The lead engineer stated in a SavageGeese video and made it clear they wanted to make a ridiculous track car of the FL5 in comparison to the FK8. The FL5 is designed for those turns on a track where you would probably have more "roll" or "lean" on an FK8. Something I noticed is: it's a little rougher in suspension but after 4 months of owning one, it broke in but needs to be run in individual mode for the better experience with everything in +R except for suspension. I personally leave that on Comfort for driving on the street. The FL5 is a love letter to the fans of the old school design of the Civic Type R. It's a mix of the EK9, FD2, and even the Accord Type R (Euro R). I love mine.
@@OnTheWireMedia Fl5 has the same number of fake vents in front, except they are tinier and maybe pointless to cut them out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y96AjGMJe50.html
It would be nice to you do a test of the trunk space between them. Put all ur track stuff you take in the FK8 and then put it in the FL5 and see how much more or less room there is.
I have and FK8 and got to have a fl5 for a few days and The FL5 is definitely better in some ways but it’s just in personal preference the FL5 has better speakers, better seat, individual modes, more gauges to read and head unit and the build quality is a lot better but everything else is based on everyone’s personal preference both are great cars but I’ll be trading my fk8 for a FL5.
Both such cool cars. The FK8 is def a bit more old school JDM styling with that iconic wang but i really do like the more subtle styling of the CL5. Def not a needed upgrade for everyone who likes the FK8 but i really do like what Honda is doing. CL5 is still a bit expensive for my blood but if dealers are waaay marking them up still a good value and probably awesome daily driver
honda really makes some great cars.... when it comes down to it i dont think i could choose both have qualities i like... the fk8 is just aggressive straight in your face and the fl5 is still aggressive just more mature about it lol 😄
The FL5 is a very nice car , undoubtedly improved on the FK8 , the hardest part for an FK8 owner is equating the price increase as a highly modified FK8 is still cheaper than a new stock FL5 and alot quicker , To get the FL5 to that stage will be very costly to do .
FL5 down pipe off the turbo are the same as FK8 there's a company that use the fk8 after market down pipe on the fl5 and had to fabricate the rest of the exhaust for the fl5
Well I purchased my 2021 FK8 back Black Friday of 2020 and well not STOCK anymore will always hold a place in my heart. I do like the FL5 in certain viewing angles and in some it just doesn't make sense to me. If I could own both I would love to drive and own both cars. Both are amazing in their own ways like you said. With all that being said I'm branching out from JDM and going to the Germans planning to out right purchase the brand new 2024 M2 G87 manual while still keeping my FK8 and my 2022 Mini Countryman S all4 as the daily. So in the end I plan on having best of all worlds AWD+RWD+FWD platforms/projects. Great video as always Dustin Keep rocking. Much Love and blessings 🙏 #SkyLyfeProjects
@@XOX-fs4ww why should I listen to you. You probably don’t even have one but wish you could. I like to change it up instead of driving the same car everyday
I'm on the fence about the FL5. The car looks good and is a nice improvement on the interior, but I don't think it is worth the price difference if you already have an FK8. I didn't get to drive the FL5 on track yet, but on the street the fk8 rides noticeably better especially the 2020+ models. I also thought the steering feels a bit better to me in the FK8. As much as I love the FK8, I do like the styling of the FL5 more.
Att 44 years old i prefer the fl5 as the fk8 seems to be for the younger crowd, its more aggressive than the fl5, eitherway they are both nice and unique in their own way.
I was always on board with the fk8 aggressive styling which may be related to me growing up in the 90s when crazy body kits were a thing. The fl5 is a great car and the fk8 is a great car, to say the US got two Type Rs for purchase in the market is a great move by Honda. But at the end of the day, imo, the price of the fl5 doesn’t justify me enough to move on from a fk8.
As someone who also grew up in the 90's I am still loving my fbo tuned FG2. Was too young (16) and broke to get a 6th gen si in 99 and the 7th gen was garbage, lol. I have a feeling there's a 2025 FL5 with my name on it.
Dut this is a valid and SERIOUS question 😂 would you ever do a type r collection like you did for your gtr’s? You have the r32 through r35. Would you consider buying an ek9, and fd2/fa5 to fd2 conversion, to add to your collection?
Yea same as the 3 series BMW has similar traits to the 5 series and so on. It’s Honda’s design language. The new HRV looks like the FL5 too. The FK8 also looks like the Odyssey. 🤭
The thing that separates the fk8 from the fl5 in terms of styling is the rear. I really don't like the rear styling of the fl5, the fk8's taillights and wing make it look so sick and like an actual type R. The fl5 type R kind of just looks like an Si with an aftermarket flimsy wing.
Tbh I love your channel. Been watching it for the last 3 years. Love it all but you keep on doing track only cars and track content for most vids. I get it’s your thing your card n all but it’s the same type of build for the cars. I miss the stances builds and the driving vlogs and all the little things. Trust I love the channel where it’s at. Just miss the other content
Thanks for the support! I’m not sure if you haven’t been keeping up, or even listening in this video, but the FL5 is a street car. We also just uploaded a video of going to a car meet. We still do all of those things, you just might not be seeing everything. Either way, thanks for watching!
Dustin こんにちは, I been watching you your RU-vid channel, and have amazing cars. I already created my account on your sales. I will buy some of your stuff. So l can put on my FL5. Post more video and god bless.
both cars are dope af but tbh bro I love my sport touring hatchback: more comfy + more features + 30% lower cost, but obviously type r is way faster lol
Changing the clutch is a pain. have to drop the subframe on the type r that i see on RU-vid a k swap is much easier When the time comes changing the clutch. What you think 🤔
Really confused about what gets to stay in the shop vs what should be sold given all the new cars to the shop :/ so many track cars that seemingly serve similar purposes
HONDA SHOULD PRODUCE MORE. PEOPLE BUY AND RESELL THEM FOR 89K CAD PLUS TAXES 100K FOR A CIVIC,. PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY WANNA OWN THE CAR CANT EVEN GET THEIR HANDS ON IT.
You compare the best color of the fk8 to the worst color of the fl5. lol. I own a white fl5 and it looks amazing. I’ve owned both cars. Fk8 feels bulky compared to the fl5 when driving. You take the fk8 to a high school dance, where as the fl5 to pick up your date to get some dinner and much more ;3. Both are good cars. You get what you pay for tho. FL5 has perfected where the fk8 has its flaws
