Welcome back to another tutorial folks. This time its not painting but basing. An equally important part of getting a great looking Flames of War formation on the table.
Could I ask what light color that is on the base edges, is it Stone Grey? And do you paint the ground as well in some dark brown/grey or is that just the Earth Texture plain and simple?
The light base edge is Panzer Aces Lihht Mud. When I any the Vallejo Earth Effects I tend not to paint it though I usually give it a wash of light pigment powder. Just to save time. It takes paint well and can be dry brushed.
@@PanzerSchule and what about the grass, that’s not the Gale Force Green Static right? Your’s seems more rounded with a bit of lighter green to it as well (sorry for the bombardment with all the questions! I just really love the way your models turn out!)
@@ilmarimartin9588 Very happy to answer any questions! I get my bright static grass from a stall that is a regular at a particular wargame show in Scotland. A big bag that lasts years! I can't recall the name. I don't think it is branded. I think they do hexagonal plastic gaming surfaces and this is the grass they use on their own. Try searching for Hex terrain or such like. You might find it. Overall, if you can get a light green colour you are heading in the right direction and looking to achieve a nice contrast with the darker earth colour.
Tuff Stuff! Super content, Do you know the height of your tufts? was it 4mm or 6mm? would you have a height recommendation if you were to add flowers to the base? (4mm or 6mm)
Thanks for the comment. I use both shorter and longer tufts. Probably in the 4mm to 6mm range but I haven't actually noticed the heights when using them. Shorter tufts are good for a larger area of ground cover and taller are good for those spots of height you need to add depth to the base. For flowers I would go for the shorter type as they are more about their colour than elevation. Hope that helps!
