The thing I don’t like about the show is that he’s actually very smart, he’s a literal scientist, but the show makes him look dumb for the sake of not having to many smart people
I get what your saying but personally I don’t mind. He doesn’t have to measure up to his comic book self to be an enjoyable character. Plus it would be far more difficult for live action to have realistic conflicts if he was his comic book self, as live action tends to have more realistic and grounded stories. I do dislike though when the plot purposely makes Barry look weaker or less smarter at times to create conflicts, but I’ve grown to accept the flaws and still enjoy the show
@@thespectaculargamernerd8114 bad argument. If you need to nerf him to have a story then you're an incompetent writer. Barry shouldn't have to be stupid for the show to go on.
@@rightssupremacist8102 Dudes a speedster. Should he really have trouble catching anybody? No. But this is an hour long show so we get the usual speedster who's faster than barry, or the villain turned a corner and Barry can't catch him. Its not just the flash. Lots of movies do this too. Quicksilver either couldn't stay to help or had to get his leg broken or put in a coma. But suspension of disbelief is needed for these kinds of things.
@@thespectaculargamernerd8114 that's what I'm here for. A villian being faster than Barry, or a Speedster getting their leg broke makes sense. If something illogical has to happen for the script to move forward, it's bad writing. Someone being faster than Barry... Good reason. Barry leg is broke... Good reason. Barry lost a fight to a non-meta with a gun? Illogical. Barry doesn't use his Speed to fight? Illogical. Better yet... Barry lost a fight to a non-meta at the beginning of the episode because he was fighting at regular human speed, that creates "conflict", then won the fight later that episode because he used his speed. *ILLOGICAL* Even when he has a good reason not to instantly win in a situation, the reason he usually in that predicament is usually illogical. Like I said, incompetent writers. I shouldn't have to dumb myself down to enjoy a show with inconsistencies. Ima just call it bad.
@@rightssupremacist8102 I don't know. I mean the first three speedsters in the first three seasons rose to a ridiculous degree. Reverse flash was fine because Barry was still learning. Made sense he would get his ass kicked. Zoom rolled in, juiced up on speed steroids, but by Savitar they overdid him so much they just had to nerf him and use the excuse he was fast because he was trapped in the speedforce because Barry wasn't getting faster, Wally was.
if he could've kept speed thinking and emotions like he had in the comics he'd finally feel like a grown up flash instead of how he's felt dumber every season
The show fell apart. It's evident they didn't have a clear direction, it seemed to be more of a 'let's see what sticks' type of show. It's why I stopped watching it.
They seemed to be implying that this was the speed barry thought at while running but now he's able to do it while standing still (if you ignore the superspeed to use the dry wipe boards)
The difference is the active and “passive” thinking… so before he could think fast when he is using his power, but it is not really the same, as he is still think like a human would. One way to look at it, when he is in his super-speed mode, everything seems to slow down for him and he just simply has more time to think when everyone else is in slow motion (if that makes any sense). But with this new ability, his thinking becomes passive, like he no longer needs to think anymore, there is no “thinking” happen, his brain just passively calculate all the possible outcomes for whatever current scenario he is in and everything is already like a big archive of results in his brain, and this archive is constantly updating live 24/7
It's not the same thing I think. When he's in the flash time the time slows down for him as a whole. Like, imagine if you were in the flash time, does it mean that you would wait in there until you develop a new mathematical formula without being bored? That is the difference. When Barry thinks fast he doesn't think in normal time from his perspective.
If he did he would be too OP. There wouldn’t be a show anymore. He would win every battle in under one second. Even the all powerful Devoe would lose(depending on who thinks what first, because they would just be trying to counter each other’s moves)
The reason why they didn't keep this ability in is because if they did his entire "flash team" would be completely pointless......don't you know that the flash isn't about the flash anymore and its mainly about the side characters.....the show is complete garbage lol ever since the 3rd to 4th season its become a cringey comedy drama series about team flash
Good it’s about damn time! especially since it was really stupid for him to give up his powers in the first place like seriously 😒 what the H?! Was the point?!
@@gilbertmillers4865 he wanted a normal life but I agree with you they can't even open breaches anymore since the extrapolater devices don't work anymore because of crises changing how they work.
Imagine having the power to think so fast that your mind can actually see the future, and combined it with another super power! (Like super speed, teleportation, telekinesis, flight or the power to shoot lasers out of your hands or something) That on its own would be so OP
This episode and the one where he loses his memory is actual happy for once are the best episodes past season 1. We get to see him smart AND happy. Now all we need is for his job to become part of the story again.
Yeah, Grant is a good Barry Allen. Sadly, the writers don't know what they're doing and ruin the show. And because the writers are bad, Grant gets underrated as an actor. But he isn't the problem.
@@tempeperoni Cisco's a great character, too. Too bad he's not in the last season(s? Idk, I've stopped watching after S3 or 4). He gave the show a bit of actual humor.
If u never watched that show I suggest you do until like S5. S6-7 are alright but nowhere near as good as the first 5 and S8-9 are just straight up the most random scenes and storyline its terrible.
He should always be thinking like this. Think about it, your brain at its normal speed with super speed can’t process things properly. If you superspeed from home to a near McDonald’s, your brain would still think that your at home as it can’t process everything at that speed. In fact, having superspeed is impossible without having your brain thinking at superspeed.
Well I think Barry always had some level of speed thinking but it was never amplified to this degree. He’s able to read and memorize books in seconds as well as shuffle and change his thoughts at super speed like he did against the Royal Flush Gang in Season 8.
@@VXception pff, I myself have always commented this in discussions about speedsters, but somehow people fail to grasp this concept. Even on this video, I just made a lengthy comment about it. This (superfast thinking) is literally a MUST for any person with superspeed. Otherwise you can't perceive and react in time to obstacles in your path and you bump into everything. It's like driving a car that goes at 100.000 mph through an obstacle course that has obstacles at every 50 feet. Do I even need to do the math and tell you how many times per second you would have to steer the wheel in order to avoid the obstacles ? I won't even bother this time, I'm just telling you the result: a normal human brain doesn't even get close being able to see everything in time, let alone make the decision to avoid the obstacles, let alone convey that information in time to the hands. The second thing that bothers me about this scene is ... what does superfast thinking have to do with seeing behind your back, or predicting the future ? How does that work, exactly ? And don't even get me started on the Quantum Ball ... here let my paste it from my other comment: Quantum events are by definition unpredictable, because the outcome is decided only when the wavefunction collapses. I suspect the only way you could somewhat "predict" them is if you literally travel back in time - and even with this method.. I'm not too sure it will work, because the outcome may be random on each attempt, so even if you experience outcome "A" on the first timeline and then go back in time.. you may experience a different outcome the second time around. So it may be physically impossible UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES to "predict" a quantum event.
I really wanted them to find a way to find a balance with this. Keep Barry speed thinking but have him not be like a robot and his usual "paragon of love" self. Imagine him then versus Thinker lol.
this show has become a daily reminder that just because you can say alot of fancy words quickly and sound smart, does not make you smart. this show has single handedly created its own physics, while simultaneously giving every particle physicist a splitting headache
The show can't afford decent CGI, no chance they would have been able to get a somewhat decent physicist to fact check what the writers threw onto the script haphazardly
this is how he thinks in comics. he was a genious, specially in chemistry before he got his powers. with them, his mind is way above any other human's.
i like how they explain "he can thing super fast now" then proceed to demonstrate said thinking, by actually making him know things that haven't happened yet, without seeing them. that's not thinking, that's farseeing. also technically flash was always able to think fast, otherwise, he wouldn't be able to keep up with his body or events happening around him while running.
Yes and no, he's not using farsight or clairvoyancy but one of the aspects of his speed thinking allows him to develop simulations for an event to occur. For example in this scene he can tell the direction of the seemingly random movement of the quantum ball ( trademark pending ) by calculations to determine trajectory etc given the surroundings ( the room they're in) and thus determine where it will go, so basically pattern recognition or predictions by calculations given existing values. That's one of the ways he can tell what's going to happen. But there's more science behind it that you can do research on, it's similar to how certain aspects of AI work to compare to an understandable reference. But yes, ideally when Barry achieved a level of control of his optimum speed and here on after he should have been able to keep his super thinking but the direction the writing took limited that for whatever reasons the writers decided on. The comics also demonstrate better how his speed works on a whole and with regards to your last point, his body and mind indeed face challenges with respect to his environment for example although it's not the same thing as this but a similar example is that Barry moves so fast that perception-wise everything seems slower to him, ( this was demonstrated in earlier season for example when he catches bullets or a catches a cup that someone drops ) so something like even talking to people who are non speedsters is practically torture for him and it doesn't really go away when you think about but people just ignore it in the moment or accept that it's happening and continue with the story.
I can almost swear there was a comic book panel about the flash complaining that the watchtower's super computer was too slow but it was literally the fastest computer (aside from maybe cyborg?) they could make.
The reason he didn't have superspeed thinking is because team flash would literally become useless. If he can figure out the answer faster then his "team" can then what's the point of them. Barry is smart but by making him stupid they can kept writing bad stories and unless characters.
This is part of what’s wrong with this show. He should’ve already been processing information in attoseconds in season 1. All of these powers come from the normal speed force
It can argued this is slow thinking for comic flash. In one of the injustice comics Superman asks flash to play some chess. Barry had never played chess before and didn’t know much. So he went over to the watchtower computer and in between 1 panel, which is probably like a second or two, he was able to absorb so much information he was able to not only play Superman at super speed while having a conversation but he even beat him. Like he was able to go from not being able to play, and within 1 or 2 secs he was able to play at super speed, have a conversation, and win.
He had it already on season 2, when he literally read 5 books with Earth 2 Wells. He had time flash in episode 2, in which he could perfectly think at super speed
I used to think that Speed Force Nora was going to give Barry this power back but without side effect of lacking emotions. Disappointed that didn't happened.
Ight but doesn’t he already have this? Like when he goes super speed and everything around him slows down he thinks like normal so he already has speed thinking
Eva isnt the only one who has used my emotions against me....let's make sure she is the last...... Damn, foreshadowing, Barry literally wants to abandon emotions....
In the context of the song Seems So Slow / "The Ballad of Barry Allen", and other works or fan explanations that delve into what it's like to be a speedster: He's not a genius (High IQ) he's just as smart (ie Barry's normal IQ) as he usually is , but "faster" to those not a speedster. In "super speed" mode, speedsters walk around or run like a normal person would, with a lot of resistance mind you, but it looks like it normally would in regular speed, but to people in regular speed it looks incredibly fast. That is what his brain is doing. He can't comprehend complex things his brain wasn't able to before or understand new things without additional knowledge, he just has more ability to take the needed time to understand something complex he could have already given adequate time and knowledge. Which to regular speed, looks like he figured it out incredibly quickly and easily. But no, something that would take you 5 minutes plus additional knowledge to figure out, he figures out in a "regular speed" time of a few seconds, but to him it was still 5 minutes or maybe more in his super speed thinking time. "I'm not a genius, I'm just really fast at being an idiot."
Barry- thinking so fast thousands of scenarios that he calculates the unpredictable in a second Also Barry- only realizes he can do that once he catches a ball
I think they often forget he is supposed to be the one who made giddeon a futuristic ai... Unfortunately if he was actually as smart as barry in the comics team flash wouldn't need exist he would be a solo act...
That's always been the heart of the flash. Since day 1. But go off I guess. Can't go to a single comment section of this show without seeing jerks like you crapping on it
How could he possibly calculate the speed at which that guy would throw is when he is facing the otherway? That would put the trajectory off depending on how hard he threw it even if it was just slightly slower
