Ever wondered how close Cat came to being nuked? BBC Series This is a commercial channel from BBC Studios. Service & Feedback www.bbcstudios.com/contact/co...
If you don’t have a friend who can do this, then either find one or become that friend. There aren’t many heroes in this world anymore, but this friend is certainly one of them.
It is Frankenstein. This clip is a flashback from an alternate reality in which Kochanski discovered Lister's cat but instead of killing it, she kept it which can be seen at the clip's end. As a result she was the one frozen and Lister became hologram. It was this Kochanski that arrived into the main universe in season...6 or 7 I think.
In the novelization it was slightly different. He wasn't as stupid and irresponsible as that. He made sure the cat has all its shots and papers and was no danger to the crew. He was _trying_ to get put in stasis so he could just wake up back on Earth and be done with the ship.
It would appear that the parallel Cristine Kochanski is so unappreciative to Lister and she never even accepted his, but at least she has the heart keep the kitten.
How can someone royally screw that up? As a number of people have said this is NOT Cat. The feline is Frankenstein the Holy Mother of the Cat race. Lister got frozen in time so that they might live!
The cat in the microwave is removed from repeats showing before the watershed. I’m not sure why, but I think it’s to stop kids from doing a Hale and Pace.😂
@@terrencebarnes7448 True, but Red Dwarf was never intended to be shown during the day. It’s like when Channel 4 insisted on showing Family Guy at 6pm where The Simpsons is. They hacked it to pieces. So they moved it to the afternoon, and then to the morning. The BBC knew what they were doing with Family Guy. Shame they didn’t with other programs.
@Faith There was a comic. It was shit. i still have them. The Red Dwarf Magazine was launched in March 1992 by Fleetway Editions and Edited by Mike Butcher. The magazine comprised of a mix of news, reviews, comic strips and competitions. After the second issue the magazine changed it's name to The Red Dwarf Smegazine from Issue 3.
So in "The End" Lister got Frankie on Titan, and in "Future Echoes" tells Cat that the father of Frankenstein's kids was a big black tom on Titan, so she must have been pregnant when she arrived on the ship... And she was still a kitten?
@@themysteriouscatperson9483 Oh there's a semi-wild cat that is in the neighbourhood, it was just small and all, must have had six months or something like that at the time. Anyways, an old catter knocked her up, she gave birth to an whole bunch of kittens, they all died eventually sadly. There was some really nice ones in the lot too, it was really a shame it was. Nothing I could've done. Point is, nothing to call the FBI over.
Okay, let me get some things straight here. I am going with the original reality, not the alternative one: In the original episode "The End", Lister brings a cat on board Red Dwarf and goes into Stasis for 18 months. The next episode of Red Dwarf (Future Echos) shows that Lister has goldfish. Of course, one of them is a robot fish, so the other one might be, too, but still, if they are not robot fish, he must have smuggled them aboard, too, and not got caught. Also, they probably were both robot goldfish because nobody would have been there to feed them for 3 million years. And even if the fish had been fed over the three million years that Lister was in Stasis, they likely would have evolved into a fish-like creature, like The Cat did. Later on, in Season 8, we see that there is a character called Birdman, who has a pet sparrow named Pete. After Pete turns into a dinosaur, they try to turn him back into a sparrow. The thing to do that is inside of Pete the Dinosaur. Captain Hollister growls at the guys for having an animal on board, but he does not growl at Birdman for having a pet sparrow on board. Also, when they try to get the time wand out of the dinosaur, they give him cow vindaloo. Where the smeg did the cow come from? I am guessing that if Lister's cat had all of its shots to begin with, they would have allowed it to stay. Keep in mind they are far from home in that ship and many could have brought their pets on board.
I don't remember seeing this. Is this supposed to be the beginning of the show? It's completely different. I remember Lister that never actuall dated Kochanski before. Also, Kochanski looked a lot more differently, and acted a lot more differently. I actually never saw remastered episodes and if this is supposed to be the pilot, I'd rather stay with originals.
It came in the following seasons as a flashback to an alternate universe. It the Red Dwarf book series he had a relationship with her. It has become the new cannon, the old seasons being redcon by the creators.
I know several people have picked up on this, BUT I'm gonna say it anyway. 1) Frankie can't be pregnant in this universe, she is a kitten. We see the cat in Kochanski's universe, how is that possible. 2) It is said on multiple occasions that Lister and Kochanski never were a couple. He even tells Rimmer 'they never made love' so how come he suddenly is her ex boyfriend? 3) Why is Kryten gold? 4) I know this one has nothing to do with this episode, but how has Lister had his appendix out twice!? There' only one explanation, we have dimension jumped when 'Ace' left.
Billy Boid the writers, Grant Naylor, changed a lot of the backstory of the show some time around Series IV, including giving Lister and Kochanski a short relationship and upping the crew number from 169 to 1,169. The in-show back story now more closely resembles that of the novels, as it was their time writing the novels that inspired them to make the changes. Essentially, it is I-III that are the odd ones out rather than the other way around. They thought it was a bit sad for Lister to be pining over somebody he barely even knew.
Also, if the Cat's opposite in the female universe is a male Dog, it means Frankenstein's opposite would be a female dog. But in the female universe only males give birth, so how was the female Frankenstein dog pregnant in the female universe?
@@davidjames579 I guess that's because of how I met the person? It felt more natural to use their last name. I'm not saying it is the norm. But it does happen.
This version made way more sense. The original had Lister being obsessed with a woman he never even dated - which was a tad creepy. In the later version - he actually dated her and got dumped and that's why he was obsessed with her. Much better.
Considering Lister's plan is to retire to Fiji and breed horses with a sheep and a cow, I don't think him being a bit of a dreamer is that outlandish. I liked the original version, both Lister and Rimmer were both perfect losers.
I recall reading (or listening, my dad had audiobooks) a bit more about them in books. Their relationship wasn't even a bad one, the problem was she wanted a career and he didn't. The mission the ship was on payed so well he could have retired as soon as it was done and been happy, she wanted to stay. Personally I find that more tragic.
@@callinater6133 No...when you are obsessing for someone (to the virtual exclusion of anyone else) whom you never even dated, for years...that is creepy. A crush just means that you would like to go out with her - but it's no big deal. Even the writers said it was a bit weird that Lister was obsessed about a woman he never dated.
@@McRocket no. The writers retconned it because that’s how it was in the books. They wanted to bring the tv series more in line with the books which was why they changed lister’s back story. Besides I’m pretty sure they described lister’s feelings for kochanski as sad, not creepy.
