I picked up the FlashForge Finder 3D Printer from Amazon
amzn.to/2pTtPX4 (UK)
amzn.to/2HpdMqE (US)
Please bear in mind that I am not experienced in 3D printing, I am very much a beginner.

It turns out that 'Likes' and 'Shares' actually help the channel so, if you want to, please click the thumbs up or share the video.
I don't have a Patreon or a donate thingy, I get by fine. That said, if you are mega rich and fancy donating something I would find useful they feel free to check out my Amazon wishlist (No pressure) - www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wish...
If you want to get in contact Twitter is probably the best way @mrdavidjwatts

Nice intro in to 3D printers, looks like fun!! Thanks for sharing. I have looked with interest at 3D printers especially as the price seems to be coming down. Just wondered if you can run it with more than one spool of PLA plastic at the same time using different colours or do you print each colour change separately. I will watch your progress with interest. All the best.
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 8 лет назад
+Scullcom Hobby Electronics It is lots of fun, thanks for the comment. The flashforge finder is a single extruder printer which means you can only have one material at a time. The Finder is actually only £400 now www.imakr.com/en/home/580-flashforge-finder.html so worth a go if you can afford it. The flashforge dreamer is a dual extruder model that allows printing in two different materials but it is, of course, more expensive.

Wow! That's a nice printer! Great video too David! While 3D modeling software such as TinkerCAD and Sketchup are awesome, you might also like OpenSCAD. It's like a programming language for 3D modeling. It has the added bonus of being supported by Thingiverse's Customizer. So, others would be able to input parameters to modify your model and print their customized versions of your model!
@DavidWatts

Thanks for the video! I'm looking to buy one of these in a few weeks. I'm completely new to 3D printing and I apologise if this is a stupid question. Your video shows it heating up the extruder. Does this printer warm the room it's in? Am I likely to want to open a window while it's working? Or is it completely neglible?
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 7 лет назад
In my experience it is negligible if noticeable at all.
@ROBNOB9X
@ROBNOB9X 8 лет назад
Nice video mate. I've just bought one of these and already got what seems to be my first jam, when you've finished a print with this do you try and unload the filament everytime or do you just leave it in there ready for when you next print? thanks very much.
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 8 лет назад
I usually leave it in until I decide if I want to use another filament, my printer is usually used every other day. A couple of tips, don't turn off the printer until the cooling fan stops so thast the filament doesn't cook for too long in the nozzle. The filament can may just be stuck in the nozzle so a fine needle might dislodge it when heated.

@JuanRivera-kg6is
@JuanRivera-kg6is 7 лет назад
From the way it looks, you might be able to get away with a bigger bed, but the slicer it comes with only uses the original size. and I don't think you can use a heated one either, unless you can figure out how to rewrite it's programing

David, love the channel and this video was tremendously helpful. Just took delivery of mine today and your instructions have given me the confidence to crack on with it. Thanks again for taking the time. Quick question - do you find you have to put something sticky on the build plate to ensure adherence? People talk about using stick paper glue for example. What is your experience with this?
@DavidWatts
@DavidWatts 8 лет назад
Hi! Congrats on the new printer. Adhesion is a little dependent on temperature, the warmer it is in the room the better adhesion in my experience. That said, I use blue painters tape on my buildplate and it works 95% of the time to keep the models stuck down.

Yeah I still like it, coming up to two years.... sort of, I think I would like one with a larger bed though. Still, you just have to get creative with design if you want larger parts. I have never had a heated bed but blue painters tape works well for me. The WiFi is actually great from my laptop but I don't have it on my PC, so I either use the cable if I want to remote control it or I just use USB for throwing g code across.

Hello David, I have not read through all comments so my question may have been answered already, however. I'm thinking about bying one 3D-printer myself. I make my 3D-models in SolidWorks (SW). SW can produce several types of files for transferring coordinates etc. to other 3D softwares but I've never made any file for a 3D-printer. Do you know which types of files your 3D-printer can use (maybe I'll find one of them in SW :))?
@DavidWatts

You can use STL files in the printing software, I am sure Solidworks can export them.

I had a result when out of the blue, one of my usual ebay sellers I buy watches from says to me "Hey, fancy a cheap 3d printer?" and so I am like "er how cheap..." and he says £40 and its yours, its a customer return that appears not to have been removed from the box and Einstein might have come up with the speed of light equation but the time of reading that and hitting the go go button was faster than light and waiting for it to be delivered as I type :D Even if its not working I can source spares and repair it myself (make for a good video come to think of it) but the retail of these is something like £400 still... Neat thing, I like the design, and it appears to be really quiet - but best of all it came with a lot of filament. I really hate it when you get your $700 3D Printer an all they include is half a meter of cruddy dollar-store filament. You load it, print a calibration 20mm box and run out immediately, then you need to go out buy and mount your own and it comes out blobbey multicolour for the next two prints. Really, that thing looks quite well developed and thought through - you'll have lots of fun with it.
