This is my first video in a planned series of PC-98 related information and tutorial videos. I uploaded this one first since I figured it might end up being the most helpful for people who have taken up an interest in using Japanese NEC PC-98 Hardware since not all games can be run from a harddrive due to copy protection issues or perhaps just how the files are stored on the disks. I'm hoping this video will be helpful for others too that perhaps are only interested in the process of flashing a HxC bootloader and firmware to Gotek FDD Emulators sicne they are certainly a cheaper alternative to buying the HxC models, atlthough the HxCs really are more sophisticated and well worth the money spent. I'd like to thank the folks at HxC for providing licenses to use their firmware on what really is a competitor's option for them. That shows a lot of character about their business in my opinion.
This video will cover just about all of the HxC firmware flashing process, aside from where to go to contact the HxC team to acquire a license to use their bootloader to flash one device. I'm not sure what they charge now for this service, but when I last purchased a license from them it was only around 10 Euro, which isn't bad in the least. To get started with that ordering process, you can visit the HxC Homepage here:
hxc2001.free.fr...
Further down on that page, you should see a small section about the HxC bootloader licenses which states:
=================================================================
"The following elements allow you to program the low cost Gotek USB Floppy Emulator with the HxC bootloader & Firmwares.
Contact me by email to get an account on the update server."
=================================================================
You can get to that contact email address by following this link:
hxc2001.free.fr...
When you receive your license code, they will liekly provide you with the software programs you will need via some links that they'll send you as well with instructions for who to connect to their server and use your "units" purchased to flash the Gotek devices you want to flash, one unit per device. Also those software programs can be found on their website as well.
Originally, when I did my first two Gotek flashes, I used a very helpful guide by bjt over at Vogons.org. There is a lot of great information and images there if you feel that this video was not clear enough or just want to have a second look at which wires go where. lol

Hope this helps! Keep the scene alive and remember that it's never too late to learn something new from old technology. :)
