The fact that even the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, chinese,Indians all knew that the earth wasn't flat and yet we still in our modern world have people that refuse to believe it is astonishing

I actually never thought that from space you'd still have a curve in a flat earth being it a disc. I'd love to see their reaction to that argument...

I love the fact that in the go pro video's you can litteraly see it curving when the curve isn't on the bottom of the screen

The fact that we're even talking about this, is insane to me.

The debate was Craig on the FTFE channel. He debates the subject weekly, as opposed to the flerfs who debate the subject weakly.

I never understood the "but you can't see the curvature" argument, YES! YES I CAN SEE IT! I feel like I'm going insane everytime I see people from both sides acknoledging that you can't see the curvature on the horizon when I can clearly see it

I'm always amused by the oceanic horizon pics saying "Where's the curve?". Being in western Canada & the closest ocean being the Pacific, I just want to hand them a telescope (or better yet have them supply their own to minimize any chance of me interfering/ skewing the results w/ gimmicked equipment) & ask them "Show me Japan".

The frustrating thing is they will simply ignore this argument and then prattle on about something else whilst insulting you. I just wish they would open their minds a teeny bit more sometimes

I live on the coast of North Carolina, home to several of the tallest lighthouses in the US. I love to come at flerfers with the simple question: why are lighthouses tall? If there is no curve then you gain no advantage by making them taller. And it would certainly be easier and cheaper to build lighthouses 2 stories tall instead of 20 stories tall. And the lighthouse keepers who had to climb them multiple times a day would certainly demand a shorter lighthouse if a tall one wasn't needed.

Back in college, one of my professors was lecturing us on the curvature of planets. The example he used was Earth and once he’d explained how scientists measure the Earths curve, one of the students asked how much of the Earths curve you could see from the surface. My professor answered “easily less than 1%.”

I thought the most common argument of flat earthers is, "That's just stupid" or "That's clearly fake".

How do flat earthers explain the fact that ham radio operators lose contact with each other on an apparently flat surface? We can talk to the ISS via ham radio as it passes overhead, but we can't talk to someone ten miles away unless one or both of us are elevated. I don't know any hams who are flat earthers because they understand antennas and the effects of curvature of the Earth.

Finally, someone has used the same argument I have often used about seeing a curve or a corner at a high altitude even if the earth is flat. I can't conceive what must be going through the minds of flat earthers, except maybe the wind.

Having been born in a seaside town, I grew up watching ships come over the horizon. First one sees the masts, funnels etc...then gradually the rest of the ship. Looking through binoculars the effect is quite obvious: the ship is traveling over a curved horizon. Also, there are highpoints at the seaside that are up to about 100 feet. Someone standing at a highpoint will see the ship before the person at the shoreline... again demonstrating the curvature of the Earth.

My favorite one is that we've all been unknowingly covered by a large glass dome, there's no way the earth could be a sphere but humans somehow being covered by a glass dome is entirely feasible

You can’t see the curvature, but even with a powerful telescope you can’t see the land on the other side. Also why does the sun dip down behind the horizon at dusk rather than disappearing into the distance?

It is difficult to discuss facts with someone who doesn't believe reality.

It's astounding that people survive as long as they do without being able to understand such basic observable phenomena, denying the reality right in front of them. Incredible.

i've always been confused by the whole "you can't see the curve" argument... because you absolutely can. If you were to stand on a boat in the middle of the ocean so that the horizon is unobstructed by land masses you would see that the horizon is an unbroken line that goes all the way around you, forming a circle. So, yes, you can easily see the curve of the horizon, you just need to know what to look for.

This is the best debunking I've witnessed in awhile. The pizza tray example was especially devastating 😂. I can't wait to see the rebuttal to this.

Actually if you are using drone even in 500 meters above the curve is noticeable already. You can also test it by a ship that going to horizon you will notice that the ship is going down.

When you took out the flat tray and show it as a curvature when you look at some altitude above it, I was rolling over the floor and laughing. And especially after you showed the square and a corner of that as well. Brilliant. Keep it up.

One additional detail: on a flat Earth there would not even _be_ a distinct horizon, unless you were close enough to the edge to see it.

I never thought about that, horizon being equal distance everywhere a camera goes up. That's amazing!

The best part is that there actually IS visible curvature, just not horizontally. The fact that there even is a horizon and you can’t just see straight to the next landmass over proves that there’s curvature there

I've had the exact same arguments with a flerther at work.He still denies the science or maths, and calls them "tenuous at best". Exhausting!

I've always thought that the horizon would look the same whether on a globe or a disc. Well done on being the first RU-vidr to actually do a video about it (first that I've seen anyway).

Well, to be honest, flat earthers have a habit of debunking themselves : - When they buy a laser gyroscope and pick a 15° per hour drift up (Thanks Bob !). - When they admit they use Google maps to drive around (or when they do without confessing it). - When they try and provide a fake FE map like the Gleason map which is a projection of the globe as stated by its creator in the patent, but they forgot to "do their own research" about it. - When they say Antarctica Treaty prevents anyone from going there but run away when provided a video of the Treaty being read out loud. - When they show they have no scientific literacy by misusing the word theory when they are talking about a scientific theory. - When they pretend celestial navigation is based on flat Earth and get hit with the BOWDITCH. I've got to thank a few people for some of these gems, they'll know who they are. Great video by the way 👍

Flat-earthers need to go take Chris Hadfield's course on Masterclass. It's a DEEP dive into everything that goes into spaceflight (like advanced orbital mechanics) and how the space program does what it does - and in doing so it shuts down almost every flat earth argument out there. The amount of complexity and depth that Chris pulls back the curtain on is fascinating, and the idea that its all just a conspiracy despite the millions of a man-hours that have gone into the space program is simply absurd.

That was a good explanation at the end, I knew the basket ball part, but the last part explaining the disc and the balloons, had never crossed my mind.

The famous Concorde photo was taken in April 1985 from an RAF Tornado fighter. The Concorde slowed down from it's usual cruising speed of Mach 2, at 60,000 feet, so the stripped-down Tornado could keep up with it for 4 minutes, as it was running out of fuel.

Fiiinally someone used a round plare or tray to prove a curve even on a flat earth! I've tried so long to point that out everywhere. That's one is my favorite arguments in fact. Thank you so much, awesome video. :)

A great example of visible curve is visible on the Pontchartrain Causway that goes out of Nee Orleans to I believe Crowley is one of the longest bridges in the world. If you look at the power line towers that run beside the bridge about halfway across in either direction you can see the curve as they fall away on either side.

Following on with the basketball video. I love the one where they dump a bucket of water on a ball and show that water does not cling to a curved surface. Well, about the 3rd time I saw that I said to myself...well the ball is wet right? And so, I did the math using an NBA Basketball. It turns out that if the water on the basketball was about the same depth as a human hair, then it would be covered with water that is about the average depth of the oceans on Earth. Which I found hilarious. I know the mechanism holding the water on the Basketball is different. I also know that if I had chosen a different ball to model then the result would be different. I just thought it was funny that it works pretty closely for a basketball.

I've been to the "Bodensee" in southern Germany just a few weeks ago, to me it was the first time I could visibly see the earth "curve away" over the water as the land beyond it was clearly under the very calm surface. Being able to see that with my own eyes was a quite nice experience.

My eyes have always detected a curve even at see level, I have also travelled overseas by plane and that high above the earth the curvature is much more obvious and unmistakable. The arguments against this are just stupid.

Ive loved science since I was a kid. I love watching educational videos about science. Ive fallen down this rabbit hole of this flat earth nonsense. I find myself just being angry that these flerfs can be so stupid. I need to ignore these people and just get back to loving and enjoying science again.

I love the simple, reproducible example with the horizontal bars in front of the horizon. When squishing the image to magnify the curvature effect, you can still see the horizontal bars and cross-out lens effects from the camera.

We all know Flat Earthers have trouble with their observational skills.

The question I always ask is ‘who benefits from the flat Earth cover up?’ Without a benefit what is the point of a cover up?

I'll be honest, I know this isn't remotely the point of the video, but when I first opened it up, I thought you were playing with your girlfriends hair, who was inexplicably sitting on the floor just off camera. In a millisecond I thought "What a strange dynamic, are they in a dom/sub relationship and this is just how his videos play out, but he focuses on debunking... oh, it's his dog. That makes sense."

HIs argument just reminded me of that scene in tom and jerry of tom trying to shoot jerry but the gun curves back to him.

Sometimes the lens may curve the image so much, that it looks like the Earth is curving inwards. Like a hollow Earth or the middle of a donut. I just think that's funny.

The picture of the horizon with flat bars above and below is brilliant. First time I've seen it. Simple and cheap. I'll have to try it one day but I don't live on a coast.

Hi Dave. I just found your channel. Love your work already. You make an excellent argument for all those flat-earthers who claim that "the earth is flat because they can't see a curvature." I'd just like to add my own voice into your comments. To Any Flat Earthers who want answers: You are following the same path that scientists have for five hundred years- except for one major point. The scientists looked out at the earth, asked 'why' and "how does this work" about the world around them, and tried to understand it. That part is good. The one major point you are missing is that - when someone else makes points disproving your ideas, or an experiment gives you data contradicting your ideas - you need to "TAKE THOSE INTO CONSIDERATION." Scientists were and still are arguing about the results of experiments and observations. They have been discussing everything we know for five hundred years. That is exactly how they came to know and understand things, by reviewing and modifying science based on the evidence. Every time a major experiment happens, or a satellite exploring another planet reveals a new piece of data, science changes. Not completely; not anymore. Scientists already know a lot about our surrounding world and solar system. But when something new is discovered, scientists quickly make slight modifications to their understanding to include anything truly new. There are new updates almost daily, based on what the new Webb telescope discovers by itself. Does this change physics and our understanding completely? No. but it DOES increase our understanding of it. So, when I say that the earth is shaped generally like a sphere, it is. And if you still don't believe it because you can't see the curve... That's simply because of how much larger the earth is than you are. The earth has a diameter of 12,742,000 meters, and the average human height is only 1-2 meters. That means the earth's diameter is over 6 million times our average height. If you want to talk about seeing, our eyes are only 5-6 centimeters apart (a centimeter is 1/100th of a meter). So if you wonder why the earth seems so flat, it's because we are really, really, really, REALLY, really really small when compared to the earth. You would have to get up to the edge of space just to START to see the curvature of the earth. Oh, and also, check out calculus. In the late 1600's, Sir Isaac Newton put out one of the original works about calculus. It is a mathematical science. The premise for the calculus integration is that "...Take any curved surface. If you take a smaller and smaller piece of that curve, at some point the curve will become a flat line or a flat plane." That is one of the basic definitions of calculus, and that is exactly why we seem to see a flat earth.

I will say, I do enjoy the challenge of coming up with unique ways to prove the earth is a sphere as well as hearing everyone else’s. Fun, little mental exercise for all of us. As someone who was in cell tower construction for a few years, there are many ways that the telecommunications industry proves this.

These very same flat Earthers will refuse to give up their GPSs. Moreover, they will hop on an airplane in a quick minute to fly all over the world. But, little do they know that the technology used to operate GPSs and Airplanes was built on the knowledge of a spherical globe. Apparently, they know VERY LITTLE!😂😂😂😂

It usually goes: FE: "Looks flat to me, so it must be flat." Normal Person: "But I can see a very slight curve..." FE: "Fisheye lens!" Normal Person: "... with my eyes when compared to that straight line." FE: "It looks curved because our eyes are round." 🤷‍♀

I’m always amazed at the flat earther’s inability to perform the obvious and simple test to prove their perspective. They just need to pick 2 points in the Southern Hemisphere. Measure the distance between the 2 points. If the distance matches the distance predicted by flat earth, then they are right. If the distance matches the globe earth, than they are wrong.

I have even seen people post screenshot where the earth is slightly concave, they go very quiet when I ask what is going on?

If there was a flat Earth the horizon line would always be over the ocean or the ice wall according to their models. But there are tons of photos showing the horizon line from space at various places across the planet, cutting off different land masses.

If the Earth were actually flat, cats would have knocked everything off by now.

One of my favourite videos is of Prof Brian Cox taking a flight in an RAF jet and flying towards the setting sun at a location where the Earths rotational speed is just around 600Mph (yes flat Earthers the Earth has different rotational speeds) and he watched the setting sun rising back up over the horizon, he was flying faster than the Earths rotation at that point. It was beautiful. Oh and why Earth is a ball, - Gravity. :)

I am a merchant marine half of my life, in my 22 years of sailing, Pacific, Atlantic Indian Ocean, sailed from east to west direction and vice versa, north to south, south to north and every direction there is, but never I reach a wall just as what they believe.

I love this! Some new fresh arguments that's so obvious yet I have never heard of them before, the equal distance horizon and that a disc does not give a straight edge of a horizon. Sure, I have thought of, and heard, arguments nearly the same or pointing to the same thing, but this straight on point I haven't seen before and it's really great. Keep it up! 😀👍

On a flight the plane had a camera on the nose that was streamed at 38,000 ft and you could clearly see the curvature

According to the flat earth map, the edge of the disc is over Antartica, which essentially is an ice wall that prevents most people from exploring further. Antartica has about 3000km of coastline (which includes bays, peninsulas etc), that’s a bit small for the circumference of a flat earth 😳

It is useless to argue with someone that is determined to misunderstood you.

I can already hear the flerfs going “la la la la” while covering their ears, and ending with “the earth is flat”! 😂
