My daughter is 8, and I just recently noticed that she has flatfeet. I was seriously concerned in the beginning, but after some more research I think it is just normal for her. I am still having a hard time understanding why she has flat feet, because she is super energetic and good at many sports. She is also very fit and agile. Maybe one of the reason is that she likes to jump from height... For example from top of a slide at the playground that is about 5 ft high.
I used to have this growing up after many people asked questions about my feet I realized the problem and began exercising and stregthening my feet many times flat feet is due to lack of foot flexing and correct ankle tightening and positioning in the knee and ankles.
In fact, there are at least 40 causes of flat feet. Some respond to strengthening and some do not. Sometimes having flat feet is a problem and some times it is perfectly normal for that individual. It's great that strengthening might have helped you but that has no bearing on another person's situation.

If a child has “normal” foot structure, no problems with feet at all, do they need an orthotic? Are orthotics for people with foot problems? Do you need orthotics when you are an adult?

That is a ProLab P3 Kiddythotic. Unfortunately that is only available from medical professionals.
