Why are people saying that using a mannequin is useless? He is showing techniques which should work for all hair. The results here don't matter, its about techniques. So what difference does it make if the hair is straight. Don't people at least blow dry straight prior to flat ironing if their hair isn't naturally straight? So you'd be starting with straight-ish hair, no?

Extremely helpful! I'm 27 and have had such a hard time straightening my hair since I entered my 20s. My hair is more curly now and frizzy. Never knew the straightener was just setting the waves. Also my hair ends up lifeless and flat so the diagonal sections will no doubt be helpful! Thanks

Thank you for sharing! I see so many clients with iron damage its awful! the worst are the younger ones that come in and they go over the sides of their hair 15 times with the iron on 450 :(
@samvillahair
@samvillahair 7 лет назад
Those are common mistakes -- sections that are too large and irons that are too hot! Color molecules become damaged over 392 degrees. Hotter isn't always better - it's about teaching our guests to take smaller sections, turn down the heat, use tension (a comb or brush) and slow down! Thanks for your comment!
@bethsturgis6777

Sam Villa Hair Tutorials So hair that's been dyed will fade more quickly if I'm straightening over 392 degrees? I just dyed my hair for the first time and I usually straighten at 450 :/
@elibjo01

Vincent Balducci I use 450 but my hair is really thick, coarse and not easily straightened. It is really healthy, I NEVER go over more than two times with that high heat and only straighten once a week and also I only wash my hair once a week.

Thank you for great tips and information. Flat ironing on a diagonal I didn’t know. Very useful and a new technique for me to incorporate. Also while I used a fine tooth comb and I knew I got much straighter strands I didn’t realize the science behind what the heat is actually doing but now it makes sense because before I used a comb sealing the texture/shape of the strand is exactly what I was doing. Thanks!!

What is the best practice for flat ironing the back of your own head?
@thereverend801
@thereverend801 7 лет назад
Katie D. I used to teach my clients to just pull the hair over their shoulder and iron what they could reach since you usually don't see much of the hair closer to the scalp when the hair is down. Once you get to the top crown area, then you can tip your head forward and get a little closer on the top where you can see more of the hair

I think it might give the hair the appearance of one giant parenthesis (imagine the hairs all making a parenthesis behind her head), which makes it look better than a giant straight up and down line of hair so to speak. You'll notice most actresses have that wave hairstyle and it looks amazing. Woman are naturally curvy and mimicking that shape with hair certainly makes the hair blend in perfectly with everything else.

Long thick bouncy hair does not relate to fine or thin hair. I have the same problem and finally got a style that is easy to care for and makes my hair look much thicker. I got an inverted asymetrical bob with a stacked back.. A bob is a style that anybody looks good in.

Anna De La Torre try clipping them in as soon as u curl it and open the curls when fully cooled (use Bobby pins n pin them to the scalp) using a flat iron for curling it helps it more to slay curly Ps my hair is the same as u described
@elibjo01
@elibjo01 7 лет назад
Use less conditioner, less oil or none at all, less heat protectant spray, a non heavy hairspray, clip it up while hot - there are holding sprays out there that you can put in before curling it, also clean the curling iron because of buildup of products that can be on it. Let the hair cool down before you let it out, if the hair is fine you may have to use different methods but those methods works for my thick pin straight hair
@nicolenunya984

Have a magical day I agree with what u said and curling iron curls (marcel) last longer than flat iron curls imo. Roller set curls would probably be the best thing
@janinedear-barlow
@janinedear-barlow 4 года назад
Hairspray! Moose works too. Make sure to clip them up as you go and let them cool! Apparently it can take around 25 minutes for the hair to fully cool in the middle. You can also texturise the hair first with a small crimper and then curl it. That what they say to do on here but I haven't tried that tip.

Sometimes I rather bigger section because I don’t want all pin straight hair, it loses volume that’s way. I really just want a bit of a quick polished look sometimes, especially if I’m short on time. So my secret to that is to do bigger sectioning for the majority underneath and then do the thinner sectioning on the top visual areas of the hair so that’s a really polished appearance but I haven’t lost all the volume in whole head of hair. If that makes sense? Also I ALWAYS only flat iron with the aid of a clamping comb (like the HerStyler) to pull it all taught while I’m dragging the straightener down my hair so no funky crimps are being ironed in. That also helps to spread the section out nicely, a very uniform straightened pass. And even if the center of my bigger sections aren’t getting direct heat, they’re still being held taught while any heat is being applied, it still helps somewhat to work some wonky waves out of that center of the bigger section. Cannot straighten without my clamping comb now, I won’t even bother trying anymore, it just never looks as good as when I use my clamping comb. The results just aren’t near the same as what I’m not used to seeing now. And because it does such a great job as an aid to straightening my hair, the style stays longer too!

@bethw6027
@bethw6027 6 лет назад
Tanzina Tasneem It might take a really really long time. And look up a lot of other peoples curly to straight routines to get the right moisturizing products. But it’s best to start with really clean hair and while it’s still wet you blow dry comb it to be as straight as possible. (I know this ends in a frizz ball mess lol) so then you put in a little more heat protectant, Make sure it’s brushed all the way through and section off your hair so you only deal with a little at a time. Starting from the bottom of your head working your way up to the crown make sure your roots are good to go and straighten small sections of hair at a time. Repeat this all over your head until you’ve gotten all of it done and spray some shine serum in a brush and gently work it through your hair (mainly the ends) and then don’t get it wet or so crazy stuff with it and it should last a day or two. On the second day you might have to re-straighten some pieces but over all it should at least last a whole day. It take Foooooorever though so keep that in mind when doing it for that sleek straight look. My hairs just past my rib age and it’s got a less intense curly fuzzy wave to it and it’s at least a 2-3 hour process on average for me if I’m straightening my own hair. So best of luck! Hope that helps

Charmingly Southern Loooots of work goes into straightening thick course curly hair. (Hair texture typically anything 3A and up is going to take time, patience and understanding of that clients hair) Typically if they haven’t had any keratin treatments or relaxers put in the hair the following should work for them. Hair needs to be freshly cleaned and deep conditioned before hand. After that a finger comb through or a brush can be used to section off the hair into 4 sections to work with at a time. Starting with a bottom section take small pieces that have been heat protected and start to blow dry them while brushing them slowly out so everything is dry and semi straighter than it was to begin with. After every section has been dried and brushed through make sure everything is heat protected once again before you start straightening. Staring with one of the bottom sections again section out the piece like the has done in the video and concentrate a little more on the roots then using the chase method (following a thin comb with the straightener to ensure full coverage of strands) slowly but steadily straighten hair to the ends. Try not to run through a strand more than once especially if someone has dry or fragile hair. There are tons of tutorials on RU-vid from people of all hair textures and types so I would definitely check those out to match the specific hair your styling. Hope my little short essay was of some help and the rambling wasn’t to hard to get through! Haha have a great day

I just crazily adore And love❤❤❤❤❤ silky sleek straight hair... Curly hair or even a bit of wavy hair is not at all my type... And although I naturally don't have straight hair I love❤❤ flat ironing with a gd straightener to achieve tht sleek straight look... 😂😂 .. And I must say that I just look wow🤩😍😲... With a sleek straight hair .. Although I equally look good👍 in a curly or a wavy hairdo which I naturally hv... I am still very very much❤❤ obsessed😘😘😍 with the poker straight sleek hair and always want a poker straight hair look..... Bt I must say that I feel very very tired😪 at the end of the day after straightening my hair bcoz I have to do it all by myself.... And straightening the bk portion of my hair sometimes bcms very tough as I can't really get to see wether my bk portion of my hair is properly straightened or not... So sometimes I take a big chunk of hair and straighten it to mk my straightening routine faster... I sometimes don't at all section my hair bcoz this way I take a lot of time to straightening my hair and bcoz of tht I take a big chunk of hair to quickly straighten up my hair... Bt even thn I get amazing😍👍🤩 results... So is it really tht imp to mk a section of each hair before straightening to get good👍 results after straightening my hair....???? ... Loved ur video and found it very very helpful informative and important for all the crazy lovers of straight hair including me..... 😂😂❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 ... Pl keep uploading more videos like this for achieving a more flawless straight hair looks.... Thank you so much once again for this video....

I have the issue of when I flat iron my hair, all the little broken pieces I have from hair loss do not smooth down with the iron. Any tips or products to help smooth them down? Sprays, pomades, round brushing.. nothing seems to help, except for tight tight tension when round brushing but it's nearly impossible to get good tension drying my own hair

I had tons of baby fly-aways in the front of my hair that reminded me of tentacles lol clear mascara has been a lifesaver for me with this issue. Just brush the little wand on what you want to lay flat =)

Your hair is breaking atthe ends and when you comb through you have like 1 cm pieces lying all over? I had the same as well. It comes from silicone in products. They make the hair hard and stubborn and dry...and then, eben if hair is growing at the roots, it never grows at the end because of breakage. Check your shampoo, conditioner etc: no products with - one or - oxane etc. At the end, srop using silicones. It takes 3-6 weeks until they are gone....but no breakage anymore.

@@weltenbummlerin632 Wow. I suspected silicones were part of my problem as well. I use no silicones now and butters like Shea and Murumuru as heat protectants. My hair is doing so much better!
@weltenbummlerin632

Commenter Number One Great! Silicones are tricky- when you first use them your hair gets smooth and shiny and that's why you like them. With time, they create a barrier so that nothing can penetrate anymore- no masks, oils or conditioner. Hair gets harder and unflexible until breaking. It takes some weeks to get rid of silicones...but my hair is growing and it didn't grow for years. So for me, I ise silicones only when I spend time on the seaside because I feel that its protecting from sea salt which I consider even worse.
