Damn!! I feel like I lived at the heart of every posse in Brooklyn. Born and raised in classon and eastern parkway. Went to Jackie Robinson JH. 88/89’ transferred to huddie JHS 89-,91 and moved to Flatbush junction 1988-1997 that’s when I first heard of Popeye. playing ball at Vandeveer projects. Fights, stabbings, late summer nights kids on my block stealing cars, police car chases, school shootings were a common thing, trains being run on girls during hookie parties, poor grades sent me to prospect H.S and later transferred to Canarsie HS, private house vs breukelen war, fights, shootings at Canarsie and south shore H.S. Race war Haitians versus Jamaicans. Kicked out of school, GED.... University of Buffalo EOP program at 19 years old. Failed out of school by 21 years old. Fast forward. ASN Nursing school, BSN degree, Critical RN for 12 years, Biomedical science post degree, (MD) Medical school overseas, California Life, wife RN school, daughter serving arm forces in Afghanistan. Our potential is stunted by our environment. How can they expect any of us to reach our potentials. We were put in mental cages and told to rise above and succeed, without given and role models and see anyone in our space survive and succeed. The mere fact that we can come out of it Alive shows our true potential. No one in my current circle has any idea of where I came from and what I’ve seen and had to overcome. Thanks for the memories. This just reminded me to be grateful of where I am and what I’ve become instead of taking it for granted

Iam not sure if this the same POPEYE from Vanderveer projects this is another I believe some body correct me please in the late 70’s there was TICKY and his brother POPEYE now they and a couple others with names like kadian,OTTO/shine,duddy. Hey who old enough to remember those names from Flatbush Brooklyn from 1977-84 era.
