For the benefit of everyone complaining about the sound quality, yes, there is a lot of background noise. There should be, the musuem's a noisy place and it's situated on a working airfield. This video was shot using a www.rodemic.com/mics/videomicpro and a www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Camcorders/High_Definition_HD/LEGRIA_HF_G25/ Imagine what it would have sounded like without the £1000 of recording equipment I was using.

Well the thing people are trying to figure out. For a museum that is closed for that day when you showed up. They have everything on just for a hand full of people. I don't believe that needed everything on just for you guys unless by request.
@edfrancis4741

Qardo Yeah they decided to open up for the day, as a museum they depend on keeping the place open as much as possible, so there is some background sound. - but hey ho its a learning game

To be honest, these museum visits are some of your best videos! The sound is not always perfect, but your questions and comments to the people who are employed in the museums are really nice, and you let them speak out (and correct you if needed) that is something that a lot of professional television team could learn a lot from

Man I'm getting somewhat nostalgic watching these Fleet Air Arm museum videos. I went there as a kid with my family, my grandfather was particularly emotional as he was enlisted with the FAA at HMS Daedalus among other places during the war as an Engineer. I really must go back and visit again.

For anyone who's curious, at 07:43 the japanese katakana most likely read "ノルナ" (noruna) which translates as "don't ride" but in context would mean "don't sit here". You can see it written on various japanese planes along with terms like "フムナ" (fumuna) "サワルナ" (sawaruna) and "オスナ" (osuna) meaning "don't step here", "don't touch this" and "don't push this" respectively.

Nice Vid, I have always liked fighters and bombers, When I was in the Navy I worked on F/A-18s with two years in the corrosion shop so I got to paint and strip and restore aircraft and parts, so restoration of classic aircraft is an interest I have. I am always interested in the history of fighters and bombers, especially those from WWII I always liked that at least one mig-15 was shot down by an F4u Corsair pilot and another was shot down by an A-1 Skyraider pilot.

Grumman Martlet apparently IS the F4F. In other words it IS the Wildcat. Just an early version that was named Martlet in UK.
@MrDgwphotos
@MrDgwphotos 6 лет назад
The RN FAA used the term Martlet up through the FM-1, initially calling the FM-1 the Martlet V, then switching to Wildcat V. The FM-2 was known as the Wildcat VI in RN FAA service.

The reason why the first plane was painted so weirdly was because it was a type of camouflage. Think of it this way, if you are a enemy looking at the sky you can see a plane that is colored brown or whatnot. Now paint that plane that closest color blue to match the sky and the plane is now less noticeable, same goes for the top part that is green, but you are an enemy pilot looking down from above. It just serves as a type of camo. That is my take on it from i know.
@Shinigamiusmc
@Shinigamiusmc 10 лет назад
Jingles, I do believe the color scheme on the F4F was the French color scheme but since the fall of france those Wildcats (Martlets) went to England and were flown without repainting

I know you're in RNAS Museum Yeovilton, but being in the restoration area, I thought you might be interested in a piece of news about a Battle of Britain Spitfire that has been painstakingly restored at the Aviation Museum Dumfries S.W. Scotland, the "Loch Doon" Spitfire P7540, has been lovingly restored, as best they can with a shortage of genuine Spitfire parts, but, it is now the only Battle of Britain Spitfire, that you as a visitor can sit in, the Museum has a website, have a look see, and come along during the summer, they also have a Royal Navy Gannet XL497 among many other Aircraft

As an Aircraft maintenance technician, I just want to point out to you, that your guide in the leather jacket was incorrect in both the previous video, and this one. In video number one he says the Wyvern, that he is presenting was powered by a turboprop. However its clear that it was the rolls-royce powered prototype on display, not the one fitted with the turbine. In this video, he says the tabs on the wings were to counter torque roll. In fact, its a spoilertab, the corsair prototype had the problem, that the ailerons would stall before the wing did. This left the pilot without any aileron control during a low speed stall (giving the Corsair some very bad stall characteristics) this was fixed by adding this spoilertab that made the wing stall before the ailerons did. Otherwise great vid, feel free to fact check me, and if im incorrect. fine if not please edit* like you normally do, so people are teached something correct :D

Hey guys, glad your enjoying, its a great museum and has a superb collection, well worth a visit if your in the area. re the background noise, we were going to film on a closed day, but they decided to open on the last minute as they depend on folks attending to keep going, cant begrudge them that. it is also a very busy airport next door, with helicopters and such taking off, and many display videos and interactive videos, which is the background sound. if anyone has a free boom mike post it to jingles im sure he would like one. Re: the Sea fury, an excellent plane, top speed was 780 with the Napier, and 740 with the Centaurus engines, 21ms climb rate and a roll of 100 dg a second, and armed with 4 x mk5 hispanos. if inc in WT at tier 16 it would arguably be the best plane they have thats non jet. a few are still flying today ()Hawker Seafury AWESOME SOUND !!! - the sounds - oooh Also yes he removed the beard and went for a re-shoot on some bits, the fury scared his beard off, its just that good! Remember if you like this stuff, p;lease give the museum as little as a pound, they depend on good will to keep going and providing great planes for you to see
@SGTBlackmore

The Fleet Air Arm Museum is a very modern and interactive place with lots of displays that include sound, the place is basically when all is said and done a collection of converted hangers so the sound tends to echo. On a busy day with hundreds of kids running around you can barely hear yourself think, and certainly any filming would have been impossible. Give the guy a break, this ain't Lucasfilm.

Did you ask about/learn about why that (the lack of two pairs of inboard .50s, or at least the ports for them) is/was?
