They killin' it at Njardhallen, Oslo in 1969 1. I'm Worried (00:12) 2. Like It This Way (04:10) 3. The World Keep On Turning (Peter Green solo) (08:28) 4. Rattlesnake Shake (12:22)
I said and keep saying that The Great Peter Green was the best guitarist John Mayall ever had. Heaven must be happier with Peter Green, Mick Bloomfield and Rory Gallagher and many more. Greetings John.
⏱️ Has no limitations Folks! All Mac members contributed...🎶 Definitely a beautiful Journey! Forever Thankful, ❣️ "Fleetwood Mac" 2024-my how 🕛-🪰's....🌄...
Three great guitarists in one band. To me, this is The only version of Fleetwood Mac that matters. Too bad that drugs and psychological problems took their toll
I was listening to these in 69 when I was just 13.. Now in 2022 I'm 66 and still listening to and loving them.. Can't beat good stonking rock blues.. Esp Peter Green style
Me also,I was16 in 69 and loved the music of the 60's.Was lucky enough to get in a band and make music as well.I still love music of the 60's now. Always listening to groups like PG's Fleetwood Mac, Yardbirds,Deep Purple ect ect. The list is long.
Legendary! This is the real deal for badass blues rock boogie… three fantastic lead guitar players who also happen to double as superb blues singers! Never be another like this original Fleetwood Mac band
Jeremy Spencer playing slide and singing, followed by Danny Kirwan showing off his vocals and how to swap leads back and forth around a broken string, and then The Green God himself doing World Keep Turning solo… I think it’s the best blues guitar lineup ever.
Better than Muddy Waters band? Better than Howlin Wolf’s band? Better than the Allman Brothers? I think you should not post when you’re loaded. They are good, but the best. Please not even.
Jeremy Spencer is the student perfecting the past with his slide guitar. Danny Kirwin is the student pushing the future, giving the Master Peter Green inspiration to do his best song writing. Peter Green is the Master energized & energizing his band. Peter named the band after Mick & John, so he could step away in the future, & they would still have a band.
@@michaelgarcia2050 Not amongst my circle of friends - we all think that Fleetwood Mac never again reached the brilliance they had with Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer once this three departed. All of this highlighted in the 3 live ‘Boston’ albums. The great session at Chess too when the great blues masters said Green was the only guitarist to give them the ‘shivers’ when he played the guitar. The Buckingham era of American soft rock was so second class in comparison.
Dave, right on bro,!! About 30 years ago while I was emersed in. Allman's, cream Albert bb and Freddie king ,my uncle asks me bout FM. I said they're a good band but I ll stick with Duane Allman etc al. He goes the real FM. Haven't stopped digging em since that day. Radio sucks,. Ya think they could squeeze a little of the Green era
They showed up at Tuesday night Dollar jam night at the Fillmore in San Francisco in 1968. They were either just traveling through town or had been booked to play somewhere and had missed a date but they showed up unexpectedly that night and set up and played a whole set that just blew everybody away! By far one of the best shows I'd ever seen!
An absolutely priceless piece of history in this amazing film of the early band. Peter has already got everything possible in a guitar player/singer. Fab Thank you for letting us see this.
@@vanderHoffTeachings ..that's amazing.. i only first heard of them in the eighties when i was a teen-ager.. the sixties seemed like such a long time ago then (not so now).. it never occurred to me i could encounter people who had seen them! Thanks for sharing.
I dug Mac's sound from the first album I heard in the late '60's. Green, Kirwan and Spencer, all built upon Mick and John's rhythm section. What a band! Danny had a real special style, Peter so talented and full of soul. I never tire of listening to them. They're gone now, but thank the stars, we have the recordings.
I agree…. Danny had near perfect pitch…..musical genius, met him in 12/68 we then became an item for a few years….then he got his UK girlfriend Pregnant and they had a baby boy Dominic….in 1972….I went on tour with them in 1972….as a friend….on the east coast…..fun time of my life….Peter spent the summer at my home in Detroit in 1973….after he fell off the deep end, and left the band…..miss them both! Both musical genius’ Loved them all!
What a gig! This has to be one of the most essential viewing experience for any fan of blues/rock music. It's a shame what happened to Peter Green, he really was one of the best and this video proves it.
Sends shivers down my spine, it`s just like the first time in front of our black and white telly in 69. I wrote I was only ten, but I turned 13 on xmas eve 1969. I`ll remember this concert as long as I l`ll live. Actually it contained a few more tunes, locked up in NRK`s vaults?
@@marksimons4108 They are all exceptional players we were/are so lucky. But your right Danny had an exceptional vibrato, and he played with such devotion to his art.
Danny 19 years old! What a personality and passion for the blues !!! And he can also do very different things, as in "Sometimes". a real talent. You will always be with us, Danny, as well as Peter.
It's a shame the Green, Kirwan and Spencer incarnation of this band wasn't around a few more years. Peter one of the all time greats, and the other two were no slouches. No band ever had this much guitar talent at one time.
I became aware of Fleetwood Mac when the Mystery To Me album was released. I feel the same way about the 2 Bobs version of the band. From there, I went back in time and found this original lineup. I even liked the Buckingham/Nicks version. I like to say that Fleetwood Mac are 3 of my favorite bands.
"Dany's broken a string..." And then the master takes us into the deepest blues of all time. The people who were there did not realize that they were witnessing History.
Where would the likes of, Fleetwood Mac , the rolling stones, led zeppelin, and many other great bands be without getting their start playing the blues, it's just a shame the original blues men didn't get the recognition or the money they deserved from playing their own music .
Just happened upon this. What an awesome piece of film. Jeremy, then Danny and then Peter! Too bad all 3 guitarists couldn't work together longer. Still guitarists come and go throughout the entire history of Fleetwood Mac. You have to realize how unbelievably great Mick was on drums and John on bass.
Wow! There isn't many films existing of prime Peter Green playing lead guitar in full flight but The Rattlesnake Shake here is definitely one! What a treasure!
Each and every person in this lineup brought their own individual talent/ skills/musicianship and together they gelled into one of the great early blues groups.
5:41 when Danny's string breaks during he is bending heavily :) how deep he is in the solo, his reaction is epic :) poor guy he was a really talented boy. RIP.
This was the fleetwoodmac we loved sooooooo much yes thank goodoness ,what guitarplaying not to describable ,ohman , 💥💥💥, and so sad the band broke ,😭😭😭 and maybe Pete had been still playing, ohhh what a sadness even after all the years, ,🖤🖤🖤
@@mrgordons Looks like the high E broke. Around 6:50 or so into the vid you can see the strings clearly. Either way, he just shifted gears and kept playing.
Paraphrasing David Byrne: Breaking a string is as much a part of the live experience as the music is. Me: One day my paraphrasing will be as much a part of paraphrasing as paraphrasing is by other peoples paraphrasing.
For such a young band the way they play the blues is outstanding Peter green is on another level amazing guitarist still can't believe he was only 23 magician
I watched this on Norwegian television, 13 years old, and - wow - what an experience - after that I was sold to blues. I never get tired of the blues/R&B-version of FM.
Although Peter's musical career was cut short by his use of mind altering substances we should be grateful for the treasure of music he left behind and the musical growth he exhibited from 1966 to 1970. We FMac fans get to not only enjoy Peter's compositions but we are blessed with the musical bond Peter had with Danny. The Then Play On LP gives us a group of songs which transferred beautifully on stage into extended jams. Whenever I need to enjoy the genuis of Peter Green I am never at a loss to find amazing songs and thanks to the Mac community there are new versions coming out in rapid fashion. Peter blessed us and proves that quality trump's quantity always. Bless those that passes away leaving behind a legacy we will enjoy till our time comes.
Peter was a great song writer and a top guitarist. When he left fleetwood mac the band changed directions and added Christine then changed direction again when lindsey and stevie came on board. These videos of the first incarnation are priceless treasue.
The concept of this band is amazing.. All three guitarist got their own moment to shine, more people would talk about them if they continue playing together this way for more years before disbanded
What a group what talent. This is brilliant ❤ three brilliant lead vocalist and three brilliant lead guitarist, with a magical bassist and Mick Fleetwood. Can’t ask for more.
Supreme and I was blessed to kno him around 1980 for couple years wen he was coming back mentally. The cool king of uk blues n rock. He was sonunderstated yet profound. Legacy eternal
Amazing to find this on here, actually saw them about ten days before this at The Lyceum in London. Howlin' Wolf was on the same London bill backed by three guys from NE of England.
3 lead guitarists all attacking their instruments.... injecting the blues and taking it to the sky... probably the best and most honest version of Fleetwood Mac
Such EXCELLENT MUSICIANSHIP, held together by Mick Fleetwood's Great drumming skills.... Intensity before drugs + egos tore them & this sound apart....
Thanks for posting this. I just learned that Peter's guitar was out of phase in the neck pickup. I lived through the 1960's and Peter touched a lot of people. Maybe we were all out of phase with the system, and that is why we connected?
One of the very few filmed moments of Peter Green in full flow...and it is only a moment during rattlesnake shake that you can see him play! 15:31 It's true to say that he had dynamic creative imagination that took flight during improvisation....The 'climax' of rattlesnake shake is truly thrilling!
As an old musician, I know that for the truly gifted, stand out players, the term ' God ' did't sit well with a lot of them & Peter Green was one of them !
Three great guitarists but Peter Green head and shoulders above. World Keep on Turning is something special. Real blues that Hooker and co would acknowledge. As BB King himself said.
Great slide work by Jeremy, of course - and great to see all the band playing behind him. Imagine the band without him, and the great rock and roll he brought to their sound - a great live band. Oh, to be in the audience digging it :-)
@Old Crow I feel that Peter greatly appreciated Jeremy's talent as a performer in the band, especially as part of their live show. It was never just about Peter playing his music, which was mostly blues. It was also rock n roll, rock and psychedelia. Fleetwood Mac has always been a multiplayer multifaceted band. Jeremy Spencer was, and remain, an awesome slide guitarist and mimic. Peter Green saw this and appreciated it. Compare Jeremy to George Thorogood - neither went much beyond what they were best at. And that is ok, as Spencer's performance at the tribute concern in 2020 reveals.
So much incridible talent in one band! I often wonder how, or even if, they would have progressed, if Peter hadn't fallen so spectacularly off his trolley. But they left some amazing music for us to love forever.
This version of Like It This Way is so godamn gnarly. Two streams of thick woody tones weaving in and out of each other. Broken string? Who cares! Just ramp up the gnarliness!!!
I had a bootleg of Fleetwood Mac. This was my favorite album out of over 500 albums. 1 side was with Peter, the best English blues guitarist, unfortunatly a short career. 2nd side without Peter. Peters side was so amazing. I have looked everywhere for similar greatness as the Peter side. I have not found a recording to match what they did on that one side. I am not saying anything negative about other recordings. The Peter side was so amazing. Parts of 2 songs, 2 entire song. 1st partial song was "Underway", side started somewhere in the middle of the song. The complete track was "Tiger", I am hear to tell you that version was so superior to any of the other versions. That version was so tight, tighter than any other version, of any of their recodings of Rock n Roll classics. 3rd song and 2nd partial was "Green Mahalesi" it playred til vinyl ran out. This side was also 33 minutes long, that's right 33 minutes. I had a turn table with adjustable speed conrol. Played at 33rpm's someting was not right so played with the speed, of coarse I timed it when I got it right. The non Peter side was excellent as well. Kirwin was fantastic leading them on that side. Better than any of there future line ups with out either of those 2 magnificent blues guitarists. The album did not survive my house burning down in the "Normal Heights" Fire in San Diego in 1984. If it had I would have uploaded it for all to enjoy. Best in an opinion along with better or not as good. History is subjective since we were not there. Please be happy with what is available. I know I am😅
Nobody knows this FLEETWOOD MAC with DANNY KERWIN and PETER GREEN and followed them through from 1968, (live CD 1968 performance). Nor what happened to these members. BARE TREES is one of the best albums of the 20th century, hands down. Then there's the 1st album from LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM and STEVIE NICKS that SHOULD HAVE WON THE GRAMMY but LINDA RONSTADT, HEART LIKE A WHEEL, won. FLEETWOOD MAC wasn't even in the running. GREAT upload!!!! RIP PETER GREEN 🙏🏻 RIP DANNY KERWIN 🙏🏻
