We skinny release our play side OG and parallel climb with our OC to the backside ILB and first man to cut off ILB, stays while the second continues to climb to FS. We insert play side A-Back to ILB and use "Gear" down motion with backside A-Back and insert him into B-Gap looking for play side OLB. Skinny is our inside release to next level getting as straight as possible as quickly as possible. Fat is our outside release to next level getting as straight as possible as quickly as possible. "Gear" down motion is when the A-Back begins motion in full speed but "Gears" it down at the B-Backs heels so he can come under control to insert through B-Gap to play side OLB. Bread and butter for us!

Been running midline for years. Read first defender on or outside the guard. Our playside guard always releases inside to cutoff penetration and in case there is a bad snap. PST always kickouts the the second defender so there is no confusion. The Y or slot folds inside if the OLB is inside. If the OLB is outside then he goes block him outside. Can also use a motion back to lead for the QB or hold the flat player on a pitch route

Actually, this is inside veer. You can see the footwork by qb and b back. QB hops into play side A gap. Midline tracks run right over centers crack. Backside A back didn't get the memo he had pitch relationship, that killed the play.

Gotcha. Ricky Dobbs from Navy runs midline to perfection from a few years back. He has some great video of how midline is run.

The clip shown is actually inside veer with the BS A back going in the wrong direction, hence why the QB looks for pitch back that isn't there. Midline to a 1/5 becomes QB follow by rule.

Great stuff. I work with the A back on the block, #27.

Do you think you could run midline out of the pistol? We run a zone read where we read the end, it would be intriguing to run midline where we read the DT with it

You absolutely can - the only difference is it doesn't quite hit as fast

what's the proper cadence used to start motion and play?
@kylegrantham6456

you can use anything, pretty much. i have my qb say down, ready, set go. "down" obviously means "get down", "ready" signals the motion, and the qb counts 1 second before he says "set go" and the "set go" is pretty much one word with how quickly he does it. if you wanna mix up the snap count, you can go on 2 and the wing in motion will just chop his feet behind the fullback for the first "go". alot of teams opt for the "blue 42" old school cadences but it doesnt have to be fancy.

what about the midline triple option very rarely used but still is what can you tell me about it

+collin smith Collin ML Triple against an even-front defense is a much rarer call because the reads can get extremely fast for a high school QB. Against an odd-front team ML Triple can be a devastating play. Depending on how you block it you can potentially triple-team the nose guard or use motion to make it a "counter" play. Check out the last part of this link for the basic overview: footballislifeblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/midline.html

+collin smith Midline really isn't that rare. There are several things to consider when running it. 1) Is there a DT that you are having trouble consistently blocking with your guard? 2) Are the DTs fighting their way outside when triple option flow comes their way? 3) Where is the widest inside technique? On the last consideration, you don't want to run midline at a 1 technique or even a 2i technique. To be honest, I'd be loathe to run it at a 2 technique unless I was confident in my QBs ability to make a very consistent read. In my opinion, a 3 technique is really the no brainer technique to run midline towards. Why? Because a 3 technique is almost always coupled with a 1 technique DT on the other side of the center. The center can typically handle the opposite 1 tech. long enough for the B-back dive to take place. Secondly, a 3 tech. is far enough away from the b-back dive to make the read as easy as it can possibly be.

can't you run this bringing the playside A-back on the tail motion then he runs in the B-gap as a lead block

Dude you've done a hell of a job with this RU-vid channel and all the GT film that it breaks down. The 101 videos are great as well for football beginners. My only nitpicks are 1.) what Kirk Anderson noted about that being IS Veer and not Midline (check out this video for some good ML examples with end zone video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KE24GpQ1gV4.html) and 2.) drawing up the play side guard releasing outside on ML (some teams do read the A-gap DT, but for the most part this is run at a 3/4i as a "constraint play" to Inside Veer.) The PSG releasing inside fits better with the whole if-then philosophy of the flexbone option. When defenses line up with a 3-technique or double eagle (2 3-techs) ML option is meant to punish them into putting those DT's back in the A-gap as shades/1's/2i's so that you don't outnumber them on the inside with blockers. But when they do go back to aligning that way the offense can go back to running regular Triple/ISV. Like I said this is just nitpicky lol. Awesome stuff! Can't wait for 2016.
