A lot of the older ppl in my life say stuff like “I’m too old to stretch”. I’m sure age plays a part but letting your body wither away for years probably contributes to your current state
@someblokecalleddave1
@someblokecalleddave1 3 года назад
I'm 60 I can do a lot of the stuff this bloke recommends. You just do a bit every day. If you don't do it, you soon seize up. Incentive helps, if you play a sport (I play cricket and I'm a bowler) and want to play into your old age, this stuff all helps.
@grittykitty50
@grittykitty50 3 года назад
@@someblokecalleddave1 Totally agree. I used to teach beginning yoga to all ages and I always told my students to just do a little stretching every day. Not an aggressive session, just something light while watching TV, etc and the positive results would be cumulative.

Were you always flexible and doing floor exercises throughout your life or did you start at a later age? I am wondering if we just get bad information as I have always been told that some of these positions are bad for your joints. Thank you.
@sidilicious11
@sidilicious11 3 года назад
Chris Cheek I started in my 50’s. I think they are good for the joints, just pay attention to your body. It will tell you how far to go and how long to hold a stretch for. Always back off if you feel pain. Breathe into the stretches. Go slow and be gentle with your body. Build flexibility slowly, especially at first. It can be a sensual and very pleasurable experience.

@sidilicious11
@sidilicious11 3 года назад
@@NansGlobalKitchen you should also ask some experts, but if I were you I’d say “yes!”. I’d experiment, and start gently stretching, lengthening the constricted muscles over time. Stretch everyday. Also try some self massage. I use a rounded stick to push into hip area places. Also lying on tennis balls, using smooth stones( over clothing). Experiment, back off if it’s too painful, your intuition will start to kick in and guide you. Also if you can get professional massages, they can really help.

Just make sure to take your time and not overdo it =) Stretching too hard can be dangerous (but also, if you stretch too hard too quickly you'll just inflame things and then actualy loose some mobility in the short term, which might lead to more overezealous stretching.. you get the idea).

@@n3v3r1s4 Yes I need to just go slow because it’s been years of sitting at a desk, I can’t even sit cross-legged anymore😢. So it’s been making yoga hard for me with certain floor stretching moves, especially if they have you sit crosslegged. I’ve always been pretty good about exercise but not so much about stretching and now I feel it. I also have scoliosis so if you have any ideas for scoliosis feel free to share. There are a lot of youtubers who demonstrate exercises for scoliosis but so far I’ve only found one ballet dancer that has helped me:) because my ribs are slightly rotated and people don’t really take that into consideration with some these exercises. Absolutely the worst job I had for my body was one where I stood on concrete 6-8 hours a day without walking, while partially hunched at a computer. My work refused to put down a soft mat, get a sitting desk or buy a standing desk. We were not allowed to sit as it looked "sloppy" at reception. The computer was instead on a short dresser, so nowhere for your knees to go. After an injury I had to request a chair, so that meant sitting all day with a bank twist in order to type. Still better than what the standing did to my feet. I can walk for hours, but standing in place is brutal. Standing hunched fucks you up.

Very informative, thank you! I'm so happy that I can do them all without any pain. I will continue to practice these movements, I like that it feels like I'm doing something really benificial for my body!

@@seannichols2428 Not consecutively. So say you stretch for 10 minutes a day. 6 days a week. Would be like 10 months. If you stretch a few times a day. Well you can reduce the amount of time needed to get your feet accustomed to sitting in prayer position.

@@seannichols2428 Okay. Just do it while you watch tv. Perfect time to get a few hours of stretching in.
