There is no quick fix when it comes to your body composition. Those people you see on the street or online that have the lean physiques have worked for those results every day. The secret? Consistency. If your reasons are half-hearted, you will get half-hearted results. What can you stick to long-term? Is there a routine or eating style that you can keep up with? It's not about being perfect, it's about doing your best and coming back to your why. Prioritize your physical practice, fuel your body and, above all else, enjoy yourself!

@strengthside thanks for lending a fresh perspective to this topic. I tend to thrive on challenges and I like to test myself periodically...currently I'm on a 52-day challenge of a very strict food and water consumption/July 5-Aug 24. No alcohol; no reward meals. My diet comprises almost the same 2-3 meals every day it's like Groundhog Day and I have only about 10 foods total to choose from at any given time...tuna, chicken, 1 scoop Garden of Life Raw Organic Meal (for my vegetables), almonds, oatmeal, Muesli, eggs, rice, black beans, lentils, and berries (black, blue, and straw) and for drinking it's tap water and coffee with creamer... I always train hard and I make stretching a priority so this strict diet and intense exercise has gotten me pretty lean lately.. I'd have to say that refraining from alcohol has made a huge difference for me.

"over the course of a lifetime" - most important message in this great video! Also the chaotic life that inhibits us - long hours, commuting, office job, but where there's a will there's a way - feeling good and making good choices is key. Thankfully I really enjoy vigorous physical activity - I find it to be de-stressing and exhilarating and feel like a king afterwards. Thanks for these vids with these simple, practical messages and lessons.

Why? At nearly 50 yrs. old, I sit in my car at the supermarket parking lot and watch people of all ages but mostly 70+ struggling, limping, hobbling, leaning on carts or canes/walkers just about permanently crippled.... I'M NOT GOING OUT LIKE THAT!

My foundational principle is never skip two times a in a row. If you skip eating good food, or skip going to the gym or doing a work out, do not skip a second time in a row. Even if it is for 15 minutes go do something active or make sure you eat the salad the second time around. This has allowed me to cap things off plan to one off occurrences instead of week long events.

I finally feel like I'm on the right side of this (for me). I struggled with diets and gym member ships and other exercise plans for decades and never stuck to anything. But now I need strength endurance and flexibility to survive and thrive in Jujitsu. Its motivated many changes in diet and habit and the arc is continuing in the right direction even in the face of adversity. As the weight has come off and the strength increased I can see direct results and progress in something that is one of the most difficult thing Ive ever done. Its also lead to other positive changes in life mental health and job performance. Move your body! It wants it so bad!

Josh and Trevor - this video has to be one of the best, full of common sense about diet, exercise, lifestyle and goals for creating and maintaining a healthy and fit life that becomes a natural way of living. Your advice about creating a diet that you'll love to eat and stick with is just so simple, it's stupid! Lol! I have tried to emulate every diet out there - eating foods I do not like thinking this is the way I'll lose weight and get healthy. No stupid, eat the foods you love - make them healthy - and you'll stick with it. And setting small goals will lead to big results. We all want results today - but we forget to enjoy the journey and give ourselves credit for the daily efforts we put into achieving those goals. Honestly, this video is so inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing. And I'm a senior - 67 years young - and still learning. I guess you can teach an old dog (or in this case, Cat!) new tricks! 💖😻

I had little sustained desirable results with diet or exercise until I accepted and loved myself exactly the way I was at any given moment. Acceptance didn't mean resignation. Making small, incremental changes served me well. Making healthy eating my norm was essential. Treats and exceptions became totally unsatisfying unless they were things like fruit, nuts and dark chocolate. I walk between 5 and 15 miles/day--sometimes farther! I LOVE walking. My real reason the helped with my success was simple. I wanted to continue to be able to move as I aged. Still plenty of work to do with regard to mobility and strength. I need to figure out how to make that fun. I know you guys will help me. I love the channel and the work you're doing. Thank you so much.

1 is such a great advice. I always struggled with going to the gym consistently, staying in shape...would do it for a few months and then shift back to being fat couch potato. That changed when I started caving. To be able to go to more technical and deep caves you have to be in great shape, you're also constantly in nature, many caves require hours of climbing and hiking so you're constantly outside, in nature. Many cavers are member of national rescue service (ours is one of the best in the world), extremely fit and vital people regardless of sex and age, and it's so amazing to be surrounded by people that are 50-60-70 and in better shape than your average 30yearold. It got me so motivated to be fit and healthy so I to can be like that, and part of it. And whenever I feel like I don't want to go for a swim or a run because it's cold or I'm tired, I just remember what I'll be gaining (or loosing) and immediately I'm motivated. Also, your focus shifts - I stoped caring whether my boobs will get smaller or legs and arms bulkier, instead I take pride and get satisfaction from what my body is now able to do - big calves - I'm able to climb better and walk linger, big arms - I'm able to swim and also climb better, my lung capacity improved - I'm able ti dive deeper and have more stamina...and healthy body craves healthy foods, so no more sugar cravings, no more chips, if I really want something sweet in 11pm, I'll chew a raw carrot.

I'm no fitness expert, but I think the easiest first step for any lifetime fitness goal is zero alcohol - ever. Quit drinking, people. Second step is to walk and stretch every day. Stretching (like any exercise) is a long haul activity, but it benefits all other types of training. Do your research. Proceed with caution.

I love your holistic approach! For me, the goal is to become embodied spirit. Said another way, to have a dancers body. Because my "why" is a body goal rooted in how I feel and my spirit's freedom, I'm more likely to invest in it, because we are not our body-mind; we all get old, but while we're here, it's best to take care of and enjoy our bodies in relation to our lives with values beyond our physique. As a mother who carried and birthed a baby, I understand the function of the body is more than aesthetics. Females experience more fluctuation and fluidity in their bodies, and the control approach really goes against our natural energy when it's functioning at its highest best. Flow is the way to go. Its not about the beautiful armor you carry as muscles but how you move in your body that makes you truly beautiful, in my opinion. The body can't lie. Your soul moves with it or it doesn't.

Good info, thanks. I'm trying to lose weight for just general health reasons. After trying to do this with out much success for a while, I realized one very key aspect of this for me is having to retrain my brain about what feeling hungry and full feels like. I drifted into the thinking feeling full was how I felt when I eat a huge burrito with chips and guacamole and then just wanted to unbutton my pants and sit on the couch. That's stuffed not full. I realized when I sat down to a meal, I did it because the clock said its time for that meal, not because I'm hungry and that's helped me drop some lbs. Hard to change those eating habits but becoming aware of being hungry or too full has really helped me regulate better.

Especially because the taste and texture both make me gag and in the cases i have gotten it down somehow i feel sick to my stomach for the next few days. Feeling like you're constantly on the edge of vomiting is no way to live and forcing yourself to eat something that makes you sick for the sake of "being healthy" is more harmful to yourself.

@Motherkuen
@Motherkuen 11 месяцев назад
Don't worry about creating a schedule just do movements throughout the day. Some of my mornings go like this. Wake up get dressed do 20 to 30 squats. Make coffee do pushups in the kitchen while waiting. Brush teeth while doing some balance work. The day just continues in that way. This is just an example. I listen to my body as to what it needs to work on. Then eventually you might be able to make up a schedule if you like. These two guys are what made me what to work out again after many years of not training.
