Early June 2014 I flew from Queenstown to Milford Sound, New Zealand, in a Cessna 172R
It was a late afternoon flight, with us being the last aircraft to leave Milford Sound in order to make it back in time with the curfew at Queenstown Airport.
Milford Sound is definitely the MOST beautiful place I have ever flown into and this video gives you a taste of what it is like

What stunning and breathtaking scenery. New Zealand has to rank as one of the most beautiful countries on earth. That approach into Milford Sound is quite unreal. WOW!!! Thanks for sharing and wishing you safe landings

Not a view you would get flying out of Ardmore, Isn't it amazing the views one can get from Go Pro or similar cameras. The clarity and scenery are great What clearance do you want over the top of those little hills as you crossover.

Very nice video... I personally could not do this flight being so close to the mountain peaks... I would be in a sweat. Was it possible for the plane to go a few hundred feet higher over these mountain ranges....???

So here is a question. First Time visitor to NZ. Do we drive in and take a boat trip etc. Or do we fly in, boat, fly out and spend more time in and around Queenstown. I have the spare days to drive (around 3) but hey. I can't afford both :)

How long did it take to fly from queenstown to milford sound? what was the hourly rate to hire the cessna? I'm thinking about doing this next year is there anything else to look out for?

The flight took approximately an hour to Milford Sound.. Hire-age of the Cessna would be unknown, we flew this aircraft down from Auckland as part of our flight school trip
