Flight instructor, private pilot killed in North County Airport plane crash identified

The National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday a flight instructor and private registered pilot performing a "touch and go landing" were killed when their single-engine aircraft crashed into a lake at North Palm Beach County General Aviation Airport the day before.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the victims are Stephen Taylor, 59, of Hollywood, and Gojko Damjanic, 58, of Fort Lauderdale.

most new pilots are only licensed to fly during days or nights with clear weather or good visibility for a few miles, this is known as VFR or visual flight rules. If a pilot wants to fly through inclement weather or through clouds they would need their license upgraded with an instrument rating know is IFR "Intrument flight rules". This means the pilot learns to depend on the instrument cluster gauges and navigation in the aircraft instead of line of sight. This is a skill required for anyone who wants to be a commercial pilot or fly through cloudly weather. The pilot flying with Kobe Bryant was blamed for flying during low visibility without an IFR rating.

You have no idea how nonsensical that is, do you? "The pilot flying with Kobe Bryant was blamed for flying during low visibility without an IFR rating." There's no "IFR rating." An Instrument Rating (IR) is a pilot qualification that allows legal flight under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Don't try explain something that you don't understand yourself.

I see a wing separated from the aircraft. Extremely tragic. Was this: A) an in-flight breakup due to the Piper spar issue, or B) did the wing separate upon impact with the water due to perhaps a loss of thrust on takeoff followed by a failed "impossible turn"? Somehow I doubt B, because the pilot flying was experienced enough to be "instrument prepared" (ready to undertake the checkride). The NTSB will resolve that question quickly I hope. Because thousands and thousands of similar Piper aircraft are flying with the same wing spar. Those poor guys. I just got my instrument rating last year (in a 172, at a different airport). Prayers to the two families. And to the First Responders who endured the pain of retrieving these men from the lake.

In flight breakup it from over speed and over stressing the airframe.. I think what you mean is structural failure. I’m willing to bet it was stall spin…

Either an in flight breakup from a structural failure (wing spar), or a stall spin from an impossible turn that was initiated following a LOTOT.

What is wrong?.....they put a hood in your face so you dont look outside. The flight instructor is the only one looking outside. The only stuff you are allowed to see is your instruments panel.

No. Media coverage has advanced exponentially. As an example, an army pilot that was a neighbor was killed before the "age of the internet" in a midair collision while under the hood. The crash received one small blurb in an Allentown paper. Today, the tragedy would be published in every paper in the country as well as by broadcasters.
