I am not considering buying any payware for this for quite a while. I will give Microsoft at least a year to see how much they keep updating and how often we get scenery updates, etc. I expect them to fix the flaws with London city, so I am not about to drop money for Orbx or any other scenery. I can live with out of the box for quite some time considering it is much better than X-Plane.

@@d_.smith1652 Yes and no. Yes London is there and it looks better than the default scenery from other flight sims but this is a hand-crafted upgrade with much better details and visuals.

d_.smith16 nearly every pier on the Thames is underwater because of the satellite imaging. And a lot of the landmarks are very wrong (like Buckingham Palace).

Airspeed_Alive Gaming if it was a smaller city then I wouldn’t expect them to, but London is one of the biggest cities in the world. If they can model the o2 Arena properly, then they can do Buckingham Palace (considering its a way more popular landmark than the arena).

Go ahead, say it looks fantastic. It does look fantastic. My wife is tired of me saying things like that, but when it comes to saving money. I tell her I can travel the world in safety and for the price of the Deluxe version. I haven't mentioned the scenery upgrades, yet. So , yes. It looks fantastic!

With all the well done airports in the default game, its a very hard sell for me to spend anywhere near $20 for an airport Ill probably use 10 times at best in a year

Las Vegas at could use some work from what i have seen, mostly at night. No flashy lights on the strip. This game is going to be so amazing at launch and just will get better with updates and mods.

they didnt do us a favor, they had literally no choice. This is why why FS2020 is the greatest thing to happen to the sim community. Competition is great for us consumers. Microsoft lowballed the entire market and set a new standard with the $119 premium version. AND, some of the stuff coming from Orbx are a direct copy and paste from other sims, hence the 40% off

Oh my I'm so happy you said KSBA Santa Barbara was first on the list!!! I've been living here for a number of years and have taken many flights in and out of that airport. My jaw dropped at the screengrabs - that looks so incredibly accurate I just cannot believe it. I wonder if they'll model any of the surrounding area (city of Santa Barbara, Channel Islands, etc.) as part of it?

Orbx generally do. In xplane they recreated the whole UK and parts of America. Right down to football grounds and etc

7:47 - They've even got the aircraft positioning correct. They changed them to "nose out" when EGLC started accepting the A318 and ERJ-190's. Very cool.

I can't wait to fly over London and the Thames and check out the Battersea Power Station, and the airport of my youth, Wellington, New Zealand. Spent so many hours there waiting to board 737 flights to Christchurch. It was always a potentially exciting landing at Wellington, with strong southerly gales in Winter.

I know I read someplace that in Europe GA aircraft are not welcome at the major airports, so I never figured I would get to someplace like Heathrow, but recently I saw people using London City, which I figured would be smaller and GA friendly, but I went to the WIKI and find they don't take anything smaller than a King Air.

What is really great about this simulator is that there are currently an incredible number of young and young-at-heart old boys around the world who will all finally get their new toy on Monday ... or Tuesday ... after a long wait. @@Superdelphinus I know that I wasn't debating if I could do VFR in the SIM as standard as I know you can anywhere in the standard SIM and it's created the world to a fantastic level of detail. But I also like the eye candy of flying over a city and orbx will make it look more realistic as London does have its flaws not being one of the 3D data cities and relying on autogen. It is going to look great regardless bit of this takes it that step further than great lol will entice me to VFR more

You can't expect MS to get London as detailed out of the box as Orbx have here. It's clearly taken a lot of working hours to get it looking like this and MS had the whole world to map. That being said, you'd expect The Gherkin and Buckingham Palace to have been included by default.

Thanks for the update RR ;-) Unfortunately this is what I was afraid of. Orbx ready to grab it's piece of the cake. Without going into detail- and aside of the overall good quality of their products, these add-ons will have a huge impact on the Fps of the sim. If you also buy (for example) PDMG's B-737, make sure you have a High-end system to run the sim. I'll postpone my order of FS2020 until I can judge it with my own eyes in a couple of weeks. How are the small airfields around London modelled like Elstree, North Weald, Turweston, Biggin Hill, Denham, Fairoaks? Can't wait to fly GA in the region. I learned to fly in the region and I have all the small OrbX airfield. I wonder if they will make them available too

The orbx hype machine is mad. Here you have a base simulation with an unbelievable level of fidelity, and people are still willing to spend money on improvements to tiny parts of the world that they might see a couple of times per year. I would sort of get it if people just spend all their time using one airport, but who does that?

I live opposite London City Airport. It will be fun crashing into my house shortly after take off. I wonder if the Emirates Air Line (the cable car between Canning Town and Greenwhich) is modelled and fully simulated. I was always worried a plane would hit it as its perpendicular to the LCA approach.

Bought OrbX NorCal pack for Xplane 11. Overall I like it. But, for 50 bucks, I was a little disappointed with San Francisco and Yosemite Valley. Perhaps Microsoft’s lighting engine makes everything look way better (?) Wondering if these are new models, or “ports.” Great video. Thanks

Two questions about the London landmark scenery - 1) Microsoft have said they're going to be adding photo-realistic cities and you have to assume London will be included sometime. What will it mean when they do that and I've bought the Orbx scenery? 2) Is it just landmarks or have Orbx fixed the massive bugs in the existing Beta version of London, such as sloping water in the Thames and underwater bridges with underwater traffic crossing them? Assuming Microsoft haven't for the final release.

I watched a recent video from Squirrel and he was flying Edinburgh to Dundee and Microsoft haven't even bothered to model in the Forth bridges. I remember in the 2002 version flying under those bridges. This has got me off the fence and I won't be buying this as I think those two bridges should have been something they made sure was modelled properly. I understand they can't model everything and please everyone but still I was looking forward to flying around my local area but I won't be now. Also, Edinburgh Castle is auto-generated as a block of flats 😥

Beautiful scenery but I still carry deep animosity towards orbx/fsdt for the infamous KLAS elevation conflict that neither company was inclined to patch... pathetic to spend 100's of dollars with companies that expect end users (most less savvy than I) to have manually edit cfg lines to use.

The big frames per second question still looms big on the horizon because while initial Alpha and Beta impressions are favorable... Those frames are with default aircraft. The real test is when PDMG, and other CPU intensive addons that simulate multiple processes at the same time are applied. I want to hope the frame rates will be at similar levels as we've been seeing, but we all know that won't be true, unfortunately. The other thing is I was shocked at is the launch version isn't in DX12. It's still DX11. I would have thought to be truly "next-gen" they would have recoded the sim to be native DX12 from the start? Vulcan would be fantastic, but since this is MS, that's never going to happen in favor of promoting their own DX api, unfortunately.

You are assuming a lot. The beta people are using is no doubt filled with profiling, diagnostics and log output that is gathered to prepare for the real release, the sim should speed up even more once that is removed.

@ You're the one assuming the release... Which is actually labeled as a Beta on official press releases... Will be drastically different from the current test version. I hope you are right, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Also, like I said, the game is still DX11 which blows my mind since they are going to move it over to DX12 in the future as stated on a development blog. I know things take time, but I think we need to look past the shiny new visuals and behind-the-scenes tech and be realistic about what may or may not be released in eight days.

@@PLAYER_42069 I'm not concerned about DX12. I think I recall an early interview where they said they in the future would be going over to it as well. I think it was during the time reporters were able to see the game for the first time. Anyway, there's just a week left, we will see. As for performance, personally, I don't really care as it looks and performs so much better than X-Plane, and I will definitely get the next generation NVidia anyway soon.

@@PLAYER_42069 It's most likely still a DX11 game because they've been working on it for the past 5 years-before DX12 was becoming a standard. I personally don't mind, since DX12 seems to lower performance a lot of the time. Maybe the new DX12 Ultimate will fix that. They'll most likely have an upgrade for DX12 ready within the next year, maybe bundled with Ray-Tracing and VR as well.

@@rediornaut7018 I would also love a Vulcan release, but this is MS, we're talking about. There is no way they aren't going to use Direct X, since that's their in-house API. It's a shame, though, because Vulcan can provide increased performance on lower-end systems... Such as consoles MSFS 2020 is going to also be on, allegedly?

Oh, it's all about third parties and their early work on scenery add-ons. From the title, I thought perhaps that Microsoft and Asobo had already made improvements to eight scenery areas within the preview build based on player complaints. lol

I wonder what the differences are in the (Orbx) Innsbruck Airport and the (MS) Innsbruck Airport since it is one of the handcrafted airports. What motivation would anybody have to spend more money on this airport?

I wondered the same, but I believe they also added a lot of detail surrounding the airport making the environment more realistic. This is not explained adequately in this video unfortunately.
