Flint, Michigan's Southside Hoods Look ROUGH.

Flint's southside looks pretty rough. However, the neighborhoods on this side of town appear to be in better shape than what we see in other parts of Flint... such as what we see in the north and east sides. Flint still has an assembly plant in town, and we see it in this video. We also see the Bishop International Airport.
0:00 - 4:10 Neighborhoods
4:10 - 5:35 South Flint Plaza Shopping Center
5:35 - 7:48 Another abandoned school.
7:48 - 12:30 Fenton Road
12:30 - 16:42 More hoods
16:42 - 19:00 Atherton Road
19:00 - 22:14 GM Flint Assembly
22:14 - 27:46 Bishop International Airport

And I will try too help share this as well use when I need too start purchasing for a HUGE positive non profit organization that is in the work's in Michigan for Autistic children and Disabled Vets. We are currently trying to raise the fund's now that we have received our non profit paperwork and the property to add on too, fix structure's that exist, and much more than I can explain on here. But if anyone is interested in donating please let me know and I'll send you the information and hopefully if all goes as projected will be an amazing site for vacations and get a ways on beautiful lakes with camp sites, tree houses to rent, canoe's, scuba training, and much more.

Chris, great work once again! The South Flint Plaza had a Little Caesars restaurant in the late sixties and early seventies. In 1970 my buddies and I would go there on Friday's and order four pitchers with no glasses and just drink from the pitcher. They had live rock and roll and dancing. We were 18 at the time. Legal age then. The south end of the plaza had a Montgomery Wards that sold boats and motorcycles in the store, with all the rest of the usual stuff too. The Koegel meats factory still makes the BEST hot dog in the world, the Koegel Vienna.

The Flint airport is great to have. When relatives come to town it's way better than having to drive down to detroit. TSA is always really quick and easy too because there's hardly anyone there. The only problem is the flights are pretty limited so it can be tricky getting where you want to go if you want to exclusively use Bishop to avoid having to go to the big city

First step to help Americas cities: Made in America, not made in china. The CCP has no love for America or any other freedom loving country. Chris, another great watch helping to keep the plight of American cities and the need of bringing jobs back.
@Henry_Jones
@Henry_Jones Год назад
Rebuilding these places with made in the usa rhetoric is a pipe dream. Mandating made in the usa just leads to less comperition, less choice, higher prices, lower quality, and other countries block your exports cuz you blocked theirs. Less trade = worse economy for everyone = everyones poorer. Places like flint are their own fault for putting all their eggs in 1 basket, ie GM.
@brianmiller5444
@brianmiller5444 Год назад
@@Henry_Jones You have a point. To some extent, a fortress (name the country) economy approach very rarely works as an economic solution. Besides, it appears the CCP is trying hard to destroy its own country, so.... I would also note that the tragedy of Flint is GM cars largely suck. Why would anyone buy a Chevy Malibu (a few years ago) instead of a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, I know, UAW, UAW UAW, but the reality is MANAGEMENT designed crappy cars, engineered crappy cars, and then the sloppy workforce built crappy cars. Is it changing? Hahahaha! Look at the utterly stupid new "electric" Hummer. A $100,000 truck with a crappy interior (cheap plastics) and horrible efficiency. I guess if one has a small enough p^&^is or wants a bigger vehicle to drape Trump flags on it makes sense. Otherwise? Korean and Japanese cars are the way to go. The other mistake in his argument is the CCP did not cause American deindustrialization. America's ruling class decided it was more profitable to run "financial engineering" firms and spreadsheet diddling rather than actually running a manufacturer. There is always someone desperate enough to take on the crap factory jobs. For lower wages. And that's what they did. Look in the mirror for who "did it" to the industrial midwest.
@jetsons101
@jetsons101 Год назад
@@Henry_Jones Manurfacturing is the backbone of any country, next a country must control its supply chain and control its borders, or it is no longer a country. The dem's have no love for America and are more than happy to give the above to the CCP. Flint did have the misfortune of being a one company town but that is no reason to write it off. It was American manufacturing that built the greatest middle class in the world.
@PhilWorley

@@Henry_JonesWrong, our country was doing great until Nixon opened up trade with China. It’s not the fault of the people of Flint. The blame lies solely on DC & it’s anti U.S. worker trade deals that has decimated our towns & cities as well as the middle class. The people of these cities that were affected sure as hell never had a say in it.
@Henry_Jones
@Henry_Jones Год назад
@@PhilWorley country was "doing great" cuz the rest of the world was developing or rebuilding from ww2! Before ww2 there was the depression. If the jobs didnt go to china theyd go to another developing country in fact they did. Mexico, milaysia, korea, taiwan, etc. What would you do? Throw up tarriff walls to try and preserve jobs that are gonna get automated anyway? Have those countries block your countries goods and servicrs and kill your expory market? The whole "back in my day you could goto the factory amd get a job that paid well for life!" Was a POP CULTURE MYTH! And a DANGEROUS one at that. It breeds entitlement and brainwashed all these rustbelt people to think education didnt matter, I can always just get a job at the factory. We dont need to diversify the economy we have gm, bethlehem steel, chrysler, etc. Well guess what, the world rebult redeveloped amd while the us got fat dumb and happy they got better newer industry that wiped all those old jobs out.

I was flying out of Bishop Airport for work frequently before the pandemic - when Delta was still operating there. Yes it forces a stop in Detroit, but still so nice to begin and end my travels at this little airport. It's super easy to navigate with all gates in one large room. It's clean and so convenient to park within walking distance of the main (only) terminal. Detroit is a massive airport in comparison and over an hour away from my home. Now that may be my only option when I have to travel for work again. Not looking forward to it 🥺

Thanks so much for giving us such an informative and close look at my hometown. Born and raised, I left in 1991 when things started getting bad. It has just gone downhill from there. Flint will never come back. GM decimated Flint. That's the main reason Flint is now on the decline and will forever be. It's too gone for there to be any substantial recovery. Still go back from time to time as I have all my family there still except my mom and dad. It breaks my heart to see this once thriving city turn into such blight and poverty. You've covered it well. All you are showing and saying about Flint is true. Sadly, it will never be the way it used to be.

3:27 My grand mother grew up in that house, it was a perfectly nice looking home until about 4-5 years ago when my great uncle who lived in it passed away. My grandmother wasn't able to keep it up and nobody in the family wanted to help so it sat and rot. There was a beautiful grand piano in the sunroom (the room that is closest to the camera). At one point a drunk driver had crashed into the side of it and made a huge hole. I guess people were squatting in it and then there was some sort of fire.

It hasn't been called Lincoln Park since late 60's early 70's when it was renamed Broome Park. I lived 3 blocks south of Neubert Ave and Tuxedo in the 50's as a kid and that is where the public bathrooms were along with one of several ball diamonds. .0:00 - 0.59 you started out very near where the swimming pool was located. I think it was closed in the late 70's and filled in in the 80's. 1:55 The annexation was in the late 60's. It was more then the assembly plant. It also included the V-8 Engine Plant and the Chevrolet Frame and Stamping Plant (Flint Metal Center) from which my dad and I retired. This hurt the Carmen School District a little bit taking funds from the plants tax base and sending it to the Flint School System. My parents and I moved a mile south east from the plant in 1963 and I graduated from Ainsworth High School which was in the Carmen School District. 4:45 Value City is were Federal Department Store was the original tenant in the 60's -early 80's. 4:54 Storage was the Fair department store. 9:46 To the right was Cody Elementary School that now is a large empty lot. 20:42 - 21:07 The engine plant. 21:35 - 22:12 The plant on the right is the Flint Metal Center.

9:10 one of these small store fronts used to sell terrific breakfast back in the 90s. I was there a few times and I think it was called Zora's. Does that ring a bell with anyone?? 10:09 this used to be a donut shop (among other things throughout the years) I recall going there with a friend after watching the remains of Autoworld imploding in '97 The donut shop had a halfway house as a neighbor. Some of the denizens of the halfway house would spend hours at the donut shop planning the day's activities.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'turn things around'. You mean getting better, I'm sure, but no one can agree on what that means.Flint could introduce measures to streamline services, rezone for business and affordable housing, make policies that are friendly to industry (if industry ever returns to US shores) or any number of other options. But since Flint no longer has any money and won't be getting any anytime soon, none of those options are feasible. That leaves the only thing left: let it continue to slowly be reclaimed by mother nature until there is nothing left. We'll become a ghost town eventually with no choice but to move to the bigger cities for things like jobs, hospitals, food resources, education, etc. Which I think is the continuing plan for herding the masses into cities. So the short answer is: no. Flint cannot 'turn things around."

On the positive side, the employee parking at that massive plant is a breeze and the shift change traffic is easy in and easy out now. Also potential companies pondering a move to Flint can chuck those "college degree" percentages of the local yokels to "high school" grads. If the whole city graduates less than 250 citywide, the most profitable businesses moving in would be the illegal pharmaceutical or liquor/lotto/check cashing/phone sale stores.

Hate driving thru that part of fenton rd. Used to ride my bike there when i was a kid and even then it was... well we just knew to be carefull. But it looks so bad now. Just even worse. I went to Cody and hated it. The kids there were some kind of extra cruel. The school i went to before, the kids were mostly pleasant. Them Cody kids were just different. Grown up too fast. First day of school i see a kid being carried off in a stretcher from a fight. 4-6th grade and so glad to get away.
