Paul's comment about how hot the ceiling was. You would do good with a couple of industrial fans running in reverse in the winter to blow all the heat down onto the guys. Save you on burning so much fuel to run the heater as well.

Reversible fans would be great, suck up and add a blower to outside in the summer for excess heat, or turn off the blower out in winter and fans reversed to blow heat down in winter.

Presumably the ceiling was hot from running the other heater The gas burner looks to have a fan built in to blow the heat down. But yeah some good fans would always help.

You must try to see how RR Buildings builds Hans' personal workshop/garage, it's simply super cool work, he's in that project It may well be that it is more expensive to build right now and here, but if you see the price over 30 years, it is cheaper to build right from the start and energy right from the start. I know there is the cultural difference How you look at it

Before I retired we had a clean burn waste oil stove at the landfill where I worked and I always had to clean it after it had been run for. awhile and when you pull it part and vacuum the ash you will find that there is an incredible amount of static electricity that it creates, hopefully you can ground yourself so you don't get shocked . and you are welcome for the hardhat baseball cap, that Landon was wearing , it was supposed to be for Paul when he is under the wrecker bumping his head, thought it would be cool!

A structural engineer’s nightmare. Eccentric load welded to the web of a beam (not the strongest part of the beam). No stiffener plates on the beam. Vibration of the unit not taken into account. But amazingly enough it might last for a good few years. 😂 I would advise checking that setup on a regular basis though. Just to be safe.
@gunner4544
@gunner4544 2 месяца назад
Sorry Paul. I disagree with your hanging method. Regardless, if your tank goes under it, at least put a brace between the two to transfer load to the floor. As per the web load etc and vibration are definitely points of failure. Welded threaded rod like that is not safe. I’m not a safety officer lol. Simple principle. Use LAR engineering. If it Looks About Right, it’s good. That setup doesn’t lar imho.

I don’t know shit from Shinola when it comes to any kind of engineering, but I think I can point at a problem and question what is wrong. It’s not the worst mount I’ve seen but damn that’s bad. My immediate thought was torsion on that bar and the vibration the unit is going to generate. Nice to know I was in the ballpark as far as concerns go.

@buskrat4059
@buskrat4059 2 месяца назад
They have a separate air intake for the burn chamber then the heating chamber. Also the amount of soot that builds up in the burn chamber you have to service them at least once a year and vacuum them out and run a wire wheel down all the tubes it’s REAL fun. So I really don’t think it will matter at all if a little bit of dust makes it in there, ours would fill a shop vac half full after one winter (2-4K gallons of oil)
@mattc.310
@mattc.310 2 месяца назад
This unit is a great addition to the shop. Put some circulation fans up to move the hot air down. Will save you on oil usage and keep the shop a more consistent temp. Also on your return air, mount the filter lower in an easy to get to location, then duct it to the heater. You'll find out how much noise you are going to get through the solid mounts once the unit is started. If it's too annoying, there are isolators that can be installed on the mounts. Enjoy your new heater.

HVAC guy here and I approve of your mounting bracket and OSHA approved install. Sometimes you just got to work with what you got. You could hang off the furnace and not worry about you and the whole works coming down. Oh by the way, you are going to become a oil burner tech with that crank oil burner. Whole lot of maintenance. You can make Hunter your burner *itch, aka oil tech. It will keep you warm when it's working! If you don't already, I recommend getting a preheater for the oil with a lift pump it will make life much easier.

Use to work in a hydraulic shop which obviously had 100000s of gallons of waste oil, we would keep a rotation going meaning not burn any until it sat a year which let a lot of BS settle out. Still had to clean all 3 or 4 furnaces regularly and it was on top step of step ladder or pallet on forks haha

I’ve always wondered about this. We had a Reznor waste oil heater at my old job that ate an absolute shit cocktail of every oil you can pull out of a truck or tractor with a pretty decent dose of bad gas and diesel. Every time the tech came out for the regular service he told us to keep doing what we’re doing, because it’s far cleaner than most of the units he fights with, including new installs like ours. We were kind of baffled because we knew that heater was burning shit it wasn’t supposed to.

Sorry, it does cost to heat with wood unless you have someone to donate the wood all split and stacked at your door. I live in NW Minnesota where heating with wood is very common. The folks here will tell you that there IS a cost even with access to acres of wood. Wood fired boilers are an excellent method of heating your home and shop. Central Boiler/Wood Master company is just down the road from me. Their wood fired boilers are state of the art and efficient. Even so, to say heating with wood is free is not exactly accurate.

I have been doing nothing but waste oil heater sales/service for 33 years here in Montana. I see a couple of things that might cause you some issues. #1 you need to have a J-pump with regulator for the altitude you are at. That metered pump will deliver to much fuel for your altitude and do not buy into the fix from Clean Burn of add more combustion air. If it is not to late, for servicing and air flow it would be better if you could flip the heater around. If you have any questions I am here to help if I can.

17:52 One time when I was an Apprentice, in a factory that made medium duty Chain Hoists, I was finishing up a job JUST like this. The roof trusses had a light 2' X2" angle iron, that was mounted so it pointed DOWN, I left a nice prybar in the "" of that angle iron,, and didn't remember until the next week when I was at home and noticed it missing. Sure enough many years later (like 8 years or so) .. we got a call to service the unit (it needed a new blower) .. and I found my prybar up there untouched! AND two 3/4" nuts they blamed me for dropping! :)

Great, now I have a Doors ear worm stuck in my head. I am glad to see Paul building a new shop. I’m sure he remembers working on gravel as a kid, dreaming about four walls, roof, and a floor.

Greetings from Polson, Montana. I’m a RU-vid subscriber. Two days ago, at Linderman Elementary School, where I work, a fourth grade girl was wearing a Fab Rats hoodie. She was excited when I told her I was a subscriber too and said she’d been to Utah.

Clean burn waste oil burners work great. Just clean them at the end of every season, And the pickup filter. We have one that is 18 years old now. A good supply of air and not to much 90 weight oil at once. For a tank we use two 275 gallon pallet tanks. Because they are clear you can see how full they are when filling them and how empty they are getting during use. We have them plumped so each one has its own line and filter with a ball valve on each to shut off the one not in use.

Robby Layton is a stand up guy! When I do a complete makeover on my dads ole 2001 Sonoma, ext cab 2wd , he'll be my first choice! I want that ole truck to look better than when it was brand new! It'll be a “dads tribute truck“ when I am done! He always wanted to put a V-8 in it, and I wanna make it happen! I can handle the mechanical aspect, as I am veteran mechanic of 37 yrs! And yes, I still am turning wrenches as a mechanic!

Those red Starrett tape measures might become more valuable in the future. Starrett was recently sold to a private equity firm. It’s possible that future tools may be made overseas.

Fine job on that there heater boy's, boy I bet that baby was expensive. Not sure but you might have to build an enclosure around it to muffle the noise. I know you said that one is suppose to be quieter but those things are pretty noisy. So I guess you will have to have a little pump for the tank ??? Thanks for the video guy's can't wait for the next one.

Build your tank in such a way that you have legs around it like a table and a top a couple of inches above it to use as a work surface, that way you aren't losing space

Save yourself alot of oil. Take a long vertical 4-6 inch pvc pipe with a small fan at the bottom of the pipe blowing out across the floor. Move all that heat that collects at the ceiling back down to the working space.

I'm not one to tell a man how to do his job, but I would put a brace underneath of that, because when that thing kicks on, that thing's going to jump a little bit and I don't know how good of a weld that you put in there which is probably pretty good but but with that bouncing and that weight. I wouldn't walk underneath of it
