The FT Old Speedster is a simple and slow flying 3 channel airplane. This mid-wing slow flyer is based off of the FT Old Fogey. More details at: flitetest.com/articles/ft-old-... Thank you for all of your support!
Just had a really hard long day of jobs, get home and its great to just watch flitetest at 11pm. Even just watching on my phone, i could easily have watched this if it was 2 or 3 times longer!
I want to thank you guys , I get a lot of ideas from you . There needed to be a poor guys channel for RC and if you have the basics most of your builds can be built for under $100 and I think that will get more new people into RC than anything else . When you go online and everything is from $300 to $3000 , sure takes the wind out of your wings if you know what I'm saying . Thanks and keep up the great work , love your videos .
You should fly at a local club, Everyone at my club help others even if they dont know each other. P.S my club is San Fernando Valley Flyers. If u live near you should come
Roee Aviv I wish I were closer, Im the only RC modeller with regular flying activity in 100 miles, there`s a couple of flyers around but certainly not good guys
My favorite part: "Lets talk about some maneuvers here, you can do loops... *wing folds* You can fold the wings" Josh says in a calm voice like nothing happened. Would love to see more of you guys flying together :)
Yep! This is definately on my "NEXT" list to build...! Just completed the Old Fogey, and have built the Bloody Baron, Simple Cub and the Simple Soarer (after making the "3-in-1-Starter" planes).
also its been an hour and dave mentioned the podcast is out AND ITS TOTALLY NOT OUT WAAAAA :,( i always download it right away and listen to it, its such a great podcast! that reminds me, i will go give it 5 stars on itunes now, as it deserves.
Holy crap, I used to live in Medina, funny to hear a town name that you recognize, they use to have a big go-kart race back in the day.... every time I watch one of these I ponder fixing my Trex, but I just can't bring myself to completely redo everything.
In my experience with quads, flying alone is where you improve. Flying with friends is where you show off and break stuff. I'd much rather fly with friends though because then you have someone to help you rebuild your plane afterwards. However, the first few times up in the air are intimidating when you have friends around, and flying line of site with multirotors while your friends are going, "awwww, did you see that?" is a good way to lose your copter in the air. With fixed wings, you can look away for a second and then find your plane pretty quick, but there are still going to be times where you look back, your plane is going towards the ground and you don't have the reaction time to find out orientation and react. Flying alone with no distractions is a good way to get down the basics.
Would this make for a great front yard flyer? Need something for the kids to learn to fly..... was considering the magnum but love the Flite Test family!!
I have been asked for a little more information so here it is. My son is 16, he lives in Wyoming. I live in Nha Trang Vietnam. I have been in the hobby since he was a baby. He used to sit and hold balsa sticks for me while we built kits together. We strayed from the hobby for years while we pursued other hobbies like hunting, fishing and target shooting. In December of 2012 my so gravitated towards RC flight. I bought him a simulator and a Park Zone Trojan after time on the simulator. After crashing his Trojan after several successful flights he turned to the best beginner ̣IMOĐ plane available.............the Super Cub. He not only learned to fly but excelled. Within a few months I put him onto a Visionaire. He quickly learned to hover and fly 3D. Then onto war birds which he mastered. Now thanks to flitetest videos he has built several scratch build FT airplanes ̣which he shares with all interested. He has built many kits as well to include the Tower Uproar and mini Telemaster. My son no flies FPV with a Bixler â ̣of courseĐ and a go pro. I took my gopro to the sea and he takes his to the skies. We share each others videos and experiences over youtube and while we skype each other we watch every new and many past episodes of flitetest. Again I want to thank flitetest for your incredible work especially the emphasis on father and sons. You are an inspiration and blessing to many.
Hi Guys! love ur stuff. Please do a review or something of the Dynam 4-CH Sky Trainer. It looks like quite a good plane but I am still not 100% sure if I should get it.
Working my way through your videos. Wondering if you do a special dual kit. Say with differing coloured decals. For a proper two person build two person fly thing. Yep I could buy all that separately but it'd be a good idea for a special offer for example. Maybe pack in a few coloured streamer rolls just for extra fun.
Hey guys I have an interesting thought for a crazy custom build. I actually thought of this when I was doing yard work. Leaf blowers. crazy and helpful inventions right? They provide a whole lot of thrust (I think mine does like 216 mph) so I thought, if you can make a cinderblock fly, would it be possible to make a battery powered leaf blower fly, using the leaf blower as kind of a jet thrust? I'm sure David could figure something out in order to turn the intake to make it work. I've seen a lot of cool crazy stuff from you guys, but using a household object for your thrust would be insane!
Essentially, that would be a EDF (electronic ducted fan). For one, EDFs get lower thrust than open prop planes. Second, leaf blowers are usually plugged into a 120V or 240V outlet, something that would be entirely impossible to replicate with battery packs.
Psuffix Toasters and blenders are usually plugged into a wall socket too, and FliteTest made both work on battery power, in flight. So if anybody can, they can :-)
Psuffix And he specifically said "battery" leaf blowers. perhaps like the black and decker lswv36. But i agree this is just a heavy ducted fan, better of to start with an rc ready ducted fan. Unless your talking about radio controlled leaf blowing, sounds fun.
well. you'd have to modify the heck out of it, but it's in theory possible. Leaf blowers produce airflow, but not thrust (the difference is subtle, but it's a difference none the less) you'd have to alter the blower chamber pretty significantly.
Long time viewer/subscriber here (ever since the breaking glass episode or so), I have been wanting to get into rc planes for a while. I fly heli's and have got to the point where to get a new helicopter or work on my old ones it's quiet expensive. So I figure I would dive into the other realm of rc aircraft! I just finished buying the 3 pack swappable kit and am pretty sure i got everything else i needed on hobbyking ordered. I already had a speed controller . . . actually i had 8 that would work. yeah i went through a multi-rotor phase for a while. o.O In 1-2 weeks i'm gonna be airborne again!! Wish me luck.
Awsome guys, I want to get into the hobby and I want to use your planes as a beginner. What trainer should I buy if I want a fun plane but still acrobatic?
The 3 pack is perfect! Use the Nutball and FT Flyer to learn. Then once you become comfortable with pattern flight, use the delta to learn aerobatics!:)
Looks like fun. I dont really get the "keeps you from having to worry about ailerons" part though. For 3 channel I would give up rudder in favor of aileron because I think bank and yank is easier and makes the plane more capable, while 3ch rudder is awkwardness and limits the plane. Could be just myself and a couple buddies though.
I love r. Planes and build too but don't know where and how to buy accessories for it,please how can I buy, accessories for a single engine plane,I will be glad if you guys can help me out am ready to pay, love to hear from you soon.thanks
i feel so bad i never bought anything from flitetest yet :( you guys are just so awesome i love watching but haven't been able to afford a plane right now. :(
Chad Kapper you all are so awsome. honestly every episode is higher quality then TV shows! i am really looking forward to getting a speed build kit of the FT-3D before the end of the month!. btw I love josh and josh they always make the show a blast! and that was a great scene when you were out on the field trying to catch the planes! really great work chad!
Minuetmaid neither are designed to go very fast. I mean, if you were insane and put an EDF jet motor with like, a 5 8 prop on it with a 1300 6 cell, then the fogey would probably be ripped to shreds, but the design of the old speedster makes it look to me like it would work with lots of carbon spars. like at least 10 in the fuselage, 8 in the wing, and a few on the rudder and elevator. If you do that, please send me the video cuz that would be funny as hell.
Kauf dir einfach den Acro magnum von Miniprop der fliegt genauso wie der Old Speedster und ist aus Deutschland ich hab den auch und der ist echt gut zu fliegen :D
I would like to suggest making an airplane that can shot bottle rockets or fireworks fron the top of the wing. At night you could have a show of colors.
