Float Ledgering with a Waggler Float - No Special Float Required. Videos covering the use of a Float Ledgering set up mostly use specialised floats called Polaris or Locslide. Both of these floats have been around for some time and work well, but they are not actually a necessity.
In this video I show you how to use a normal waggler float for float ledgering and I explain the advantages that normal wagglers have over both the Polaris and Locslide versions.
The float ledger method can be used in calm conditions, but it is best used when the wind makes fishing with the standard waggler set up very difficult. in many ways, it is something of a 'halfway house' between the waggler and bomb/feeder methods.

Excellent. I used a float with a feeder 40 years ago. I prefer watching a float to a rod tip. Btw. Your voice is a dead ringer for Melvyn Bragg :-)

Just had a session using waggler float ledger , not used it for years , swirling 20mph wind . Never fished for carp with the method before , must have hit on right set up , as they hooked themselves -never had that before . I was trying out Cralusso "match sinking" line , not really self sinking but seems easier to sink than most . What did help , was I had tied up rigs and put them on pole rig holders as I know the depth of the swims -I connected the loop of the rig to the main line with one of Cralusso's mini swivel connectors , this acted as a back shot and helped a lot sinking the line . Only a few big carp in the lake , mostly 4-8oz though .

Great vid Den great idea will definitely try it ,Loved the vid on lift bite's can't do that with this and a great fish to finish on I don't suppose you know of a good strong landing net 4 mitre handle not to much money and a good catapult for firing out goundbait Cheers mate. love the vid's.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 3 года назад
Thanks Alan. I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as you with the Landing net handle, so if you find one, please let me know. I'm still using a 3.3metre Drennan handle I bought years ago. As for the groundbait catapult, I never use one, so I have been of no assistance whatsoever on this occasion mate. :)

I can imagine this would work well in a very weedy lake where the you need the line to go above weed. Without the risk of a long trailing length of line landing in the weed with a waggler.
@FishingwithDen

Exactly right. I have just done a new video which will be published soon that also mentions this point.😁😁👍👍

Thank you for showing that old school method..is that what was called stret pegging. When you said you were going to fish it more over depth around 6:40 fine tuning was that over depth from the bomb or the hook, if that makes sense. Normally when pluming with a plummet on the hook over depth would be from the hook.. cheers
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 3 года назад
Hi Rob. Stret Pegging is completely different mate. That is something which is done in rivers. I would also have been talking about going over depth from the bomb to the float. I hope that helps.

@jaquesdaniels2964

I have the locslide floats , but I don't like them for shallower water as they dive in and I feel that could spook fish -they are good as a "lazy mans" slider float in deeper water -yep -you can pin them with float stop , but I use standard floats for the shallow swims . The reason we used this set up years back , was there were no "ledger" rods , there were Avon rods but we couldn't afford em , 1 float rod was all we had to do everything - not ideal for ledgering -hence weight and float system . Float ledger, lift float rig , slider float rig , stick float , waggler , bubble float - all allow a one rod angler to deal with conditions on the day .
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 3 года назад
I think you had the same fishing background as me then Jaques.
@Vypren
@Vypren 2 года назад
I love my waggler fishing. But then I found out about this technique. So i tried it today and hated casting this rig. I set the depth, pinned the waggler between a stopper and a small split shot to offset the carrying capacity of the float right under it. I then added my main running lead right above the swivel and it casted sooo terribly. Maybe I should try it your way next time because I assume I did it wrong. * and i was using a loaded float. Probably shouldn’t have done that either.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 2 года назад
I think you hit the nail on the head with your last comment Vypren. By using a loaded float, you would have unbalanced the rig. The bomb at the bottom of the rig and the loading in the base of the float would have acted against each other and probably caused the float to try and go forward of the lead on the cast. You should also bear in mind that a loaded float has less buoyancy left in it to counteract wind and the surface tow, which would probably result in your float being pulled under if there is a good surface tow. I would recommend something like a 3AAA unloaded float as a good start point. You should also not use a fine tip in these floats as you need the buoyancy of a thicker, more buoyant tip in adverse conditions. I hope that helps mate.
@EricPollarrd
@EricPollarrd 2 года назад
I wonder if you could combine this with a method feeder? Usual inline method feeder but leave the hooklink swivel OUT of the feeder to allow sliding... Thinking about it I think fish mostly pull upwards on a short method feeder link so therefore being free running still wouldn’t stop the bolt effect. Might have some mixed results however, point being more sensitive bite indication than a rod tip
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 2 года назад
I've never tried a Method Feeder with it, but I find a standard Cage Feeder works great.

@@FishingwithDen Thanks Den, is good situation you have got then if you are on to fish that are not often fished for, are carp widespread in Australia? And do you ever fish for any of the native freshwater species?
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 3 года назад
@@ancoyle3024 It's great to be able to turn up at a fishery and know that you are going to be the only one there Kieran. Local anglers don't really fish for Carp. There a few exceptions, but mostly they are interested in native species. Personally, I love to catch the Mullet, but occasionally I like to use a lure for Flathead. I also sometimes catch Brim (Bream) and Bass on baits intended for Carp. As for how widespread Carp are, they are certainly in most of the states, but Queensland and the Northern Territory seem to have hardly any.
