Can I just say, thank you very much for this video! This is 1 of only 2 videos I have seen which explains in detail exactly what to do for beginners and gives variation incase it doesn't work. The other video being Matt Hayes how to float fish, which got me into fishing. However I found when I went out I still didn't have a clue what I was doing lol I want to get back out there this year and try again so looked for the Matt Hayes video, however, it seems to have a copyright claim! Thankfully, I have found your video, and I truly believe I have a lot better understanding from this than I did from Matt Hayes so thank you. I'll be out again soon now

Thank you for your great advices through your splendid videos. Is it possible to use the tell tale shot as an anchor when i use a loaded waggler for the lift-method? And if so, should the distance of the shot to the hook be the same as in a normal rig, so around four to seven inches? Kind regards from a beginner from germany :-)
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 6 лет назад
With the lift method the shot resting on the bottom I refer to as an anchor shot. But when lifted it does cause an indication at the float, so I suppose it is both, anchor and tell tale. Seven inches is a good starting point for the layed-on section of hook length, but alter it if you need to while fishing. I have not made a film on the lift method, only mentioned it in the context of wagglers. I will have to make one next summer. Best of luck.
@hamburgerquieddje3898
@hamburgerquieddje3898 6 лет назад
Amateur Angling That is what i also thought about. So in the end with the tell tale shot as an anchor, i just need to properly adjust the floatheight. I am surely looking forward for the next warm season. Thanks a lot! :-)

all good sound advice. Would add the small rubber float stops you slide up the line are a great addition allowing float depth to be changed without the need to move shot too much. one or two either side of float can hold it in place. I put shot below float so float can easily be slid up the line to increased depth. Self loading floats also good as they reduce number of shot you need to pinch on the line .

A very good basic guide to waggler fishing. The only minor criticism would be that to use smaller shot down the line for the bulk and droppers ie all eights and tens I feel would be better but only in water up to about 6 ft deep and please point out that fish can be found at all depths not just on the bottom. Regular feeding is essential. Probably the best beginners guide I have seen so far!

Great videos and as others have said, your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Thanks for taking your time out for making these. I am 33 and i last went fishing regularly when i was about 13 or 14. Since then i went fishing once with my whip in 2011 and i go on the odd sea fishing trip when abroad. I am going ledger fishing for the first ever time next Tuesday and i have been practicing tying knots and loops. Went to my local tackle shop yesterday bought a few things. So excited! still have a lot of the same gear i've had since i was 14. During those times when i was regularly fishing i only ever Pole or waggler fished. Watching this video has given me new ideas and important things to consider for when i next go waggler fishing. I have been put off waggler/pole fishing in the winter due to fish being less active and mostly just staying on the bottom in deep water which is why i'm ledgering next week. Would you say this is true? bottom fishing (ledger, feeder) is best for the winter? of course i could waggler fish on the bottom with plumbing the depth but wouldnt it just be better, quicker and easier to just ledger fish for fishing on the bottom? maybe the odd fish will come up in the water a bit so could still be worth the waggler, or pole if its not so windy. What are your thoughts on that? and anyones' thoughts welcome...i'm very much an amateur angler. I mean amateur level one! cheers.
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 6 лет назад
Using the wrong rig in the right place is better than using the right rig in the wrong place. In colder weather fish will shoal, finding the fish is more important. Ask and watch other anglers who know the fishery. Try fishing different pegs and don't assume the fish will be where they were in the summer. Fishing close to dead weed beds is always worth a try. Use whatever method you feel most confident with. Best of luck.

This is spot on - the content concentrating on the method rather than a quick description followed by match tactics and feeding . I.E - exactly what us leisure anglers need . Your tips and clear explanations inspired me to have another go at waggler fishing . I was rubbish , but at least I knew why . I caught fish though and learnt about the lake . I had problems with fixing the shot , and changing the shotting pattern - a 13' rod is too long for the place and I have to side cast , I just got a 10' float rod , and will try loaded waggler next time as I saw this video . Maybe you could do a video on shot ? as there is the non toxic stuff , double cut , "stotz" , I found the small sizes impossible to put on the line . I also began to get the hang of feathering the line down at the end of the session - and hooray - sank the line . Your video got me started on float fishing again , liked and subbed , many thanks .

@AmateurAngling

The weights used are split shot which are available in several sizes. The float will specify the amount of shot required to cock it correctly. Use a combination of different size split shot equal to the total capacity of the float in a suitable pattern down the line.

Best tuition videos ever, and ones to direct all coarse fishermen/women to, for clear and concise advice. Thank you.

But how do you change the depth or even plumb it at the beginning
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 6 лет назад
Split shot are easy to move or use a loaded float and float stops. Best of luck.

@@AmateurAngling split shots are movable if you don't squeeze them too much right? (What split shots do you use?) Thanks for the help
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 6 лет назад
You are exactly right. You don't have to close the split shot right down, just enough to grip the line. It's then an easy matter to re-open and move the shot. I use Anchor double cut shot. Please see my article: www.amateurangling.com/best-split-shot-for-float-fishing/

Thanks very much, recently started float fishing on a tidal river, hence very strong currents and I had very similar issues to the ones you highlighted, the only question I have is whether you should strike immediately when you get a bite or wait for a more solid pull?
@AmateurAngling
@AmateurAngling 3 года назад
I usually strike quickly, unless the only way to hook them is to give them a little time, every day is different. Best of luck.
