Your ceiling turned out SO GOOD!!! My goodness, that did take a lot of sweat equity, but $400 vs whatever the astronomical cost of the other options was, I'm sure it's worth it. You'd never know seeing the finished product. Great job, y'all!!!
Brandon should learn the back to Lowes song on the Banjo... 😁 It's going to be a super nice home. Ceilings / beams look great! The tour seems like a deal.. LOL Is there a time limit to how long I can listen to the water falls?
Crazy Cool! Place looks fantastic! I have a question? I see you have chosen to use 2x4 studs in your walls, I would think 2x6 would of given you a better warm and cooler interior? Was it the weight or a money savings?
A few things: Caulk and paint make a carpenter what he ain't. I was paint a house for a client one day and I stepped off the ladder and onto the paint tray. I flipped it on it's side and it flung paint all over the bathroom. Wear safety glasses when using power tools. The ceiling turned out nice! Good Job.
I think the ceiling turned out pretty nice after the trim pieces. Next time I would try using panel adhesive or something like quick grab. The crazy thing is 1/2" osb is like half the cost of those panels.
That looks fantastic! Loving those fox beams 😄 Great to see the Outlaws again, too. But the win for this week has to be Sarah on the tools - future Outlaw builder right there.
When I'm having a shitty day... I ask myself "am I in an electric wheelchair with a dead battery?" "No?, well someone is and they're having a worse day than me!"
“Will work for beer”, free labor. I’ll be up next week if there will still be things to do and you need help. Send me a link on that particular rum and I’ll bring some up from Charlotte if nothing else! Great stuff!
This build is an amazing series! With all the 'foxes', with the very professional work together with the DIY work done by you two, it's both enjoyable and super satisfying. Can't wait to keep on as you continue with the build and then the decoration!
:-) You wouldn’t happen to know someone who works at the Marina who might know someone who can get me a spot like your new spot and might have connections with Jericho so he can build me a little something like someone I know whose building a little something near a waterfall? :-) Loving the videos. From a prior Marine and retired NPS who lived in Blowing Rock, NC many years……Thank you for sharing.
🤣 we’ll have our people talk to your people! 😉 Lol. Thank you!! & thank you for your service in the marines. I’ve been working for NPS the last 5 years myself, giving the private sector a whirl this year though haha. Blowing Rock is beautiful! My sister goes to App state - love visiting up that way.
appreciate the thought! 🥰 haha I have only ever snorkeled here & don’t know anyone personally who has scuba’d but I have heard of professionals doing it, I know they have people who have to do it for dam maintenance and inspection - pretty intense though bc it’s 500ft deep over at the dam! water is nice and clear, albeit very dark i’m sure that deep down 😮
Couple of questions.... How do you get the pump out boat to the back with all the lines to shore? And, will the boat always be tied upfront blocking the house? Sorry, I'm a little behind on the videos but omg it looks great!
You can always boat either under or over the lines, depending on how far up/down the lake levels are 😊 we have to get back there ourselves mostly every day to pick up Iko when she potties! We liked keeping the pontoon in the front for extra seating & tanning space in the summer, but now that it’s chillier out we haven’t had it docked there for months 🫶
Question? Is the black water tank just a float that Brandon transformed by putting those pipe fittings in it or is it a specially designed float? I'm really enjoying these and love how much you make me laugh with "fox" or and the 'faux" beams.
It is designed specifically as a septic tank! Our other floats also aren’t hollow, they are filled with a styrofoam type product. Hahaha gotta love those fox/faux beams. Couldn’t resist poking a little fun at him 🤪
Sure thing! Jericho Ball - Outlaw Builders. they’re based out of waynesville so when they were working down here several days in a row we arranged accommodations for them so they didn’t have to drive back and forth quite as often. But either way they’re not toooo far! You can reach him at 828-400-5244 😊
we don’t have one of those haha. in fact we don’t even have a local lowes or home depot. it’s already an hour drive to lowe’s, closest place like you’re referencing is almost 2 hrs away 🥵
Caulk and Paint will make a Carpenter what he ain’t! That’s what I hear our commercial Painters always say….teasing of course! It will always get better guys. The ceiling looks really nice!
I love it when I get watch hard work and seeing all come together. We put fake beams in one of our early houses and we found some that were made out of Styrofoam which looked very realistic but weighed almost nothing... Few things we have ever built were final, unless they were sold first. No project has to be final, unless you want it to be. Modifications, upgrades, and remodels usually happen if you are in a home long enough. You could even space your 1 x 2 covers every 4' if it ever sags. Regardless, it looks great now! We just want to get in line for the rental ASAP as we aren't getting any younger... 🤔
We used LP smartsiding on the first floor siding outside! doing a lap siding on the upper floor just to have some fun contrast 😊 but we love that smartsiding! it’s what we have on our current house as well 🙌
@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses thanks for the reply. I thought that might be what it was. I have been thinking about using it as well on my little cabin in the SC Blue Ridge Mountains to keep the cost down. 👍
Hey, looks great. I am building a workshop that is a very similar style with the whole shed or "lean-to" style roof. Love the simplicity of single slope rafters. I can't wait to see all the trim work inside.
Great to see another episode of the floating cabin build. It's really coming along nicely! A ton of work for sure! I was surprised how amazingly the ceiling cleaned up after installing the beams, painting and caulking. Thanks for making these videos week in and week out.
Something heard around a regular worksite finds its way into these DIY projects.... like, "Caulk and paint make me the carpenter I ain't." And that's not too bad, but when you start hearing "Bigger Hammer"... or "Sawzaw!"... or "Goop it!", you may be having some problems. Thanks for sharing the ups AND downs of these projects. I wonder though, how much money did you save... and once you put up the faux beams and the trim, will you still be saving money? What was the alternative? Sheetrock mud and tape? I'm still curious about your water and power and mechanical systems... and how do you maintain it all out on the water? I mean... it's not like there's a crawl space.... a swim space maybe... but that wouldn't be too fun in the winter.
That’s a great saying 🤣 hadn’t heard that one before but I love it!! & so true, we secretly call the sawzaw the “F-- It Tool” hahaha. So the faux beams & trim was accounted for in the $400 total for the ceiling costs!! The alternative for a similar looking ceiling with better materials & less headache would have been something like using sturdy plywood + genuine beams, which would have costed several thousand dollars (at best, barring any mess-ups). We ran our pex for plumbing last week, & the stubs and all for the subfloor plumbing were built in before the plywood went down. It’s definitely tough to access after it’s all in but it isn’t built like a regular boat where you NEED to access all systems regularly for routine maintenance. More like a house where it’s accessible if there’s a necessity, but definitely won’t be convenient 😅 as for power, we will have solar + generator backup.
haha thanks! 🥰 we are gunning for sailboat cruising one day! the joys of living on the water + the vanlife benefit of being mobile, seems like the best of both worlds 🤩
The ceiling looks so good, remember there is no "downright ugly" only solutions and you both did an excellent job ... love the look of the beams. Thank you so much for the update.
Aw thank you!! Someone commented earlier that they used faux beams made of foam in their house & you could never tell. So sounds like that would be a great option!! 🙌 best of luck with your build! 😊
Usually, the length of the sheet goes perpendicular to the rafters but you can still make it work. Adding 1x2s to cover the seams is a good call but it will be a labor of love to get it all primed and caulked and painted -- all while working overhead = no bueno! :)
I can see how that would make it easier! 🙌 We mainly did it parallel so that the long seams would line up on the vertical rafters for our beams to attach to & cover. & very true, a labor of love it will be indeed! I feel like I’ve been getting the best shoulder workout of my life lately 🤣
Ceiling looks great! Ceilings are the worse to work on! When we were renovating our travel trailer we used a vinyl plank flooring so it would look like tongue & groove without the weight and expense!
@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses It was an aluminum frame trailer and thought about sistering wood strips next to the aluminum joists so we could put a nail into where the planks come together so you wouldn't see the nails, but I was worried that the nails would pull out going down the road, so we went with using 2 sided tape.
@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses since you went with 1/8 material you may find you need cross boards every 4’ rather than only on joints. Sometimes that material says in humidity.
Cool build guys , just found your channel & have built a few houses of my own & enjoy watching y’all . Do yo thang . I’m guessing Kentucky, not sure what lake your on , but I’ve spent time on my friends house boat on lake Cumberland.
Well, I'm honestly shocked at how good it turned out. Before y'all started the white 1" trim, I was like "Bless their hearts" 😄But Y'all pulled it out, looks good.
