This is the second in a series of range tests covering the Onewheel GT S-Series, The Floatwheel ADV Pro, and my own custom VESC one wheel build using a Superflux on the XR frame (called the Galleon, for fun).

The details of the test conditions are described in the video, but the are as follows:
Battery charged to full, which is 1 hour after the green light, and full battery confirmed in the app.
Tire pressure @ 14psi
Rider weight with gear is 195lbs/88.5kg
55F/12.7C ambient tempertature
~20mph riding speed
Moderate crosswind/headwind

@@officia.liam69the eternal debate, ride comfort versus range. The lower the PSI the more comfortable ride, but at the cost of ride distance.

Awesome test! Thanks for doing it! I like that there’s no fluff. Info straight forward and conditions of the trip. Also same rider, PSI, ETA makes it more comparable.

I am 230 pounds and I get on ADV PRO in Manhattan close to 30 miles in range.

At around 160 lbs ride weight I got 24 miles with 27% left on my ADV Pro while carving at mostly 15 mph. You’re a real champ for conducting this test and carrying your board for that long. At 25% my body weight I would just leave it there 😳

Great Video Mario, 20 mph ave speed is pretty fast, 23 miles range at this speed is pretty good. I can see people getting 30 miles if they go 15mph ave. I am not sure what the sweet spot for efficiency on these small motor are but would be interested to know. I think I can get 27 miles on your meatpack ave 15mph but thats on a superflux.

My custom board is fairly heavy, 39lbs about.

Custom board is a custom board. Can build it lighter than stock XR if your willing to give up range. The 5" tech rails billet hub is quite a bit lighter than stock. U can even vesc a pint and throw a 5" hub on it.

Floatwheel may be better than the GT/GTS in most ways, but as long as it’s not readily available in the US and the only way to purchase one is with cryptocurrency, it will never catch on like FM’s OW. Not only is that an issue, but having to assemble and program the unit will be a turn for the average user. All these FW vs GTS videos are great, but at the end of the day FM’s Onewheel will still sell over 95% of the time. FW is just not as convenient a board to acquire. There is no real competition when it comes to sales. FM has it locked down for now.

It’s a fair point, certainly. Most folks around me still ride FM Onewheels, and some have ordered a Floatwheel and some have had me build a custom VESC board. Almost all of those people have more than 1 rideable, and so the landscape is still open for people to explore different device choices.

Very much this. For me, the probable 2+month wait is what's turning me off from placing me order. That and the aftermarket market for FW is non existent and would like different footpad options.

Glad to hear it. You may then want to consider a custom built VESC board , with a Shaman Systems VESC, Float Life rails, bumpers, and battery enclosure, holding a high capacity battery I make in NY, managed by a VESC connected smart BMS made in Canada. And assembled by me in my shop, an American worker trying to run a small hobby shop business using some of the best parts the aftermarket has independently developed. As will be featured in the next range test.

Yeah Im all for supporting american products, but when there is a better,cheaper product that I can repair myself. Then im only buying american to put money in future motions pocket. I honestly dont give a shit if they make it. They have clearly shown they dont care about their consumers. Look at all the issues with onewheels and the right to repair. They want youre money thats all. Floatwheel want's you to have a great product. Im not buying american just because Future Motion wants fatter wallets. If they listened to their customers it would be different. Support companies that actually care about the people using and buying the product.
