Flooding in Tean, Staffordshire
Should planning permission be granted on flood plains? Are developers and local authorities fully considering the long-term environmental and infrastructural impacts that may ensue?
There is worry from locals like myself who live by the river about the downstream and upstream effects when rivers like this are prevented from naturally flooding their banks in designated areas.
What are your thoughts on this?

I love your videos, just for the interest in local history and issues. My son and I did a photo shoot today in Bathpool park in Kidsgrove and Newton Road rec area in Burton on Trent. We followed the Trent back to Stoke via Rugeley and I was amazed to see how much of the land is flooded. How anyone can think it is a good idea to build on a floodplain is beyond me. People are just going to end up with houses they cannot insure and then cannot sell. Keep up the great work. I would love to know where your bottle dump is as some of those poison bottles were quite impressive.

There’s so many brown field sites that should be redeveloped first especially in the towns of Staffordshire. Green belt shouldn’t be built on until those have been completed. Staffordshire is exactly the same, they keep building on the floodplains then wonder why so much of the town ends under water. The water companies and local authorities should also do more about getting rid of all the silt and debris in our rivers. Keep doing these excellent videos about our beloved county.

You're absolutely right. It sounds completely crazy. I read an article recently about planning permission being granted for a huge Sainsbury's to be built on land at high risk of flooding. It was a village in Lincolnshire and the plot bordered a river which has repeatedly flooded leaving metre high water & had even cost six or seven people their lives in the past. It sounds like the locals will be well served for shopping although they might need a boat to get there. Madness.

Absolutely mad. Floodplains are such an important part of a watercourse for keeping the flow at a reasonable rate. Quite honestly they should be considered as PART of the river, not just potential land near it. I can guess exactly what the local councillors were thinking 💷💷💷

It's ridiculous, our councillors are absolutely useless!! Hopefully one of them will see this and respond. Thanks for the videos.

Building houses on flood plains has always been a no brainer, perhaps when people stop buying them they'll stop building them!

Perhaps if the river were dredged it would help , you are correct though it is a stupid idea , then the home owners won’t be able insure for flood damage , short and sweet and straight to the point video thanks 😊
