Be careful not to blow the drain hoses off the sunroof pan nipples, a very common issue when using high volume compressed air.

Reeeeeeeee 😂 move the A pillar trim and check on the state of those drain hoses before you parts-cannon a sunroof or seals. A quick Google suggests Jeep drain hoses are two piece daftness, similar to those my Hot-tub-Tiguan. Daft adapter at the roof drain hole just went brittle and stopped sealing to the main hose. Dumped that amount of water down behind my dash and behind the carpet underlay. Filled from the floor upwards with no real evidence of a leak. Nightmare to diagnose, but very much worth a check before you go down anymore complex/costly route.
@kendiggy
@kendiggy 12 дней назад
I was thinking the same. Also, it's still possibly coming from the window, and since so much was going through, it soaked up into the headliner by wicking up. But definitely pull the trim there and see the actual leak.
@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA 12 дней назад
Very common that, the hose shrinks with time, and pulls loose. Solution is to buy a length of hose and make new ends for it, and use a little heat to soften the new hose first, so it goes on easy. No need for sealer at all if the hose is hot and pliable to go over nicely.

Just as an fyi - if you're using compressed air at home - there is a more than 0% chance to force one of the drain fittings to disconnect due to the clog holding more pressure than one of the fittings. I'm not saying Ray doesn't know what he's doing but most of us DIYers could cause more harm with compressed air than help. There are little brushes at end of long weed eater lines that you can use to DIY that safely.

Compressed air on a sunroof drain can be dangerous, you can blow the plastic drain tube right off the drain trough fitting itself. Find the lower exit point (may need to remove the inner fender liner, then blow back the other way and see if it comes out the top drain, if not, the tube is off. I have also found the tube split at the trough fitting.
@johnpeacock2909
@johnpeacock2909 12 дней назад
I mentioned it in the other video, when you blow compressed air in these it knocks off the drain hose off and then drains all over inside. Looks like that is exactly what happened. Also, at the bottom they have a nipple that, because of its shape, makes it clog up faster. I cut the bottom off of mine in my Commander, which is the same exact setup.

The best way I have found was to get a spool of heavy duty weed wacker line. Cut 2 long pcs that will go from top to exit. The first is to work through the clog. The second is to brush it out. Take a razer and make many splits and bristles on the end, trickle water through for a while to soften and then put the other end on your cordless drill and run it through top to bottom many times. Probably will never clog again before trading in or retiring the vehicle if done correctly.

I had a Cadillac CTS that had problems with the sunroof frames. Best way to fix them was to use a monofilament line either string trimmer or something like that and go to the drain inside the fenderwell and push up till it exists at the top. the problem with going from the top is if you hit the clog and you push too hard it’ll pull the tube right off the drain connection and then it drains right into the into the inside of the car. Using😂 compressed air can have the same effect. After I brought a new car, I put the Cadillac outside and I didn’t check it enough and the sunroof drains created a birdbath in the front two seats, and then the condensation ruined all the electronics and destroyed the car. Keep your sunroof clear. The wiser don’t buy cars with sunroof.

Compressed air to clear drains is notorious for blowing the drain tube off the barb fitting on the sunroof. Personally I use white vinegar and a long brush made for it. Check the tubes first ... I have a 2003 Jeep GC Overland. Had to replace both sun roof drain tubes last summer. Mine were a blue flex like tube that became brittle and fall apart when grabbing at them. They run down inside that A pillar from the sun roof and down through that kick panel area then emerge and drop into the floor pan. PITA to remove all of the passenger side one so I just cut off what I could get to and rerouted new vinyl tubing.

Stops the leak for a while until it drops down again. I just duct taped mine and took out the fuse, got tired of fixing something i didn't use. It leaks in at the rear of the sunroof as thats what drops down when the screws loosen. You can see it dropped down at the rear in the video and it just comes in faster than the drain holes can manage.

Do it one at a time and If you don't see water coming out of each of the four wheel wells then there is a clog or a break somewhere in that drain line.

Use weed wacker plastic line to clear blockage, then run a little water down the drains, and look for it to come out the bottom end of both drains. If not the drains tubes may be disconnected from the nipples.

I recommed smoke testing drains and windshields. Block one side if the drain and smoke from the other. See if there is a leak, if not unblock and check flow. To check the windshield. Put a fan in the interior venting out a window, all other doors/windows closed( pulling a vacuum in the car). Then smoke the suspected not sealed component. If you see smoke inside, you have a leak.

My 98 Honda accord has this same problem except it leaks from where it's supposed to drain out. I stuck a snake cam under and past the dash to see the tube on both sides popped off. Apparently over the course of 20 years, the tubing that was used has a tendency to shrink a couple inches and is a common problem for this car. Maybe something like that is happening here except instead of coming off by the drain past the footwell, it came off right at the sunroof.

my 1999 had the drain tubes "dry rot" inside the window channels. I bought rubber lines at Ace Hardware and re-ran the new lines. Problem Fixed.

I had a Nissan Pathfinder with this problem. I fixed it with duct tape. It worked great for years.😁

Also check behind the door seals at the top at the top of the windshield. There's a hole through the body and when the seals get old the don't seal it up. A quick dab of silicone.

Check the corner of the windshield when you were watering the sunroof. The water was also hitting that gap the windshield on the drivers side.

We've had sunroofs on about 8 of our GM Cars over the years. Never had an issue....& this is in Eastern ND. Temps from -30F (rarely thank God!!) to 100+ sometimes. Humidity levels from bone-dry to Miami-like. Keep the roof & door seals pliable!!! Use a good vinyl protectant a couple times/yr. Thankfully, we have a 3-car garage.

Had a 2006 rav4 do this. Wasn’t the sunroof. There was a VERY slight separation in the roof panel seams under the roof rails. Chased it for quite a while. Tiny bit of epoxy fixed it

I blew air through the drains in my wife's Camry, they were clogged enough it pushed the rubber hose off the drain.

Might want to checl the drain tube in the A-piller, and see if it has a cracked or come undone.

I had this problem with a Lincoln LS. The tubing had shrunk and pulled itself off the nipple on the drivers side. I couldn’t get it back on, so I plugged it with duct seal, forcing the water to go to the passenger side. That fixed it.

Had a friend who had a Jeep. They had it to the dealer several times to find the leak. It was determined that it was leaking from a body seam. From what the dealer told them, that water leak are very common with jeeps. At least you can get to the drain holes to clean them out. I had a Ford Focus, and the sun roof tracks were right over the drain holes.

the seal around the glass is not to prevent water , but to make a seal between the glass and the rubber , it is a sticky substance but drys and slightly tacky ready for the rubber and the screen for the rubber to stick onto the windscreen , i use to add the black goo as we called it onto land rovers before the american company that owned it sold it to the india company since then the range rover is trash

Had the same thing on a 02 grand cherokee. Had to drop the visors, A pillars, hand hold, decorative sun roof ring and the door seals to drop the headliner. Use caution as there may be side air curtains. The drain tubes, similar to your wire convolute, were absolutely rotted out. Ended up pulling foot side panels, removed what tubing I could get to and replaced it with clear 3/8 vinyl tubing from HD. Make sure to secure the tubing to the nipple, otherwise it may pull off due to shrinkage (ask me how I know). Since we don't use the sunroof, am considering using sealant to completely seal it closed.

Sounds crazy but I used some weed trimmer line to clean sun roof drains . Just make sure all pine needles are out of the pipe.

The drain tube has become detached just inside the trim. Drop that corner of the headliner and you will see it immediately!

I had the same problem on my '91 Toyota Land Cruiser about 10 years ago. I found that it was the windshield rubber was not sealing between body and glass. Might look there too!
