You should listen to Nightwish's version of the Phantom of the Opera as well, although it's not with Floor but with their first singer, Tarja. It's reaaaaaaaaally cool!!!

They jumped up not because she hit it, rather because instead of cutting it at the normal 4 seconds she continued to hold it. Also, because this version starts out much higher than the original musical version. Her entire performance of this song is more difficult than the way it is done in musical ... higher and faster with some vocal roller coasters that she nailed perfectly.

Floor completely looks up to Henk. He used to portray the Phantom in the Dutch version of the musical. Shes indeed classically trained. Floor actually asked Henk to perform this song together. Henks only request to that was that, If Nightwish comes to the Netherlands, that he wants to do that song with her and nightwish. Im so stoked to see this in November!

Yes, Floor's performances on this show added a little rocky vibe to all of her renditions. She was surprised and jouyous. Henk added the distortion just for Floor. This is amazing. Now go back to 2005 "The End of an Era" and check out the metal version by Nightwish with their 1st vocalist Tarja Turunen. You will hear where this arrangement came from. This is a great show, but not a competition.

Her singing style varies from opera to screaming and grunting. Mostly she sings in English, but she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. HENK POORT is a Dutch actor and singer, who mainly plays in operas and musicals. Henk was LLOYD WEBBER's favorite in the Phantom of the Opera 🎶

A bit of a context to this show performance(s). Beste Zangers (“Best Singers” or "Dear Singers") is a Dutch show where singers come together and perform for each other. Each night one of the singers is the non-performing featured person on the center couch and the others perform songs for them that are near and dear to them, often with their own touch of flair and rearranged by the awesome house band (Floor's heavier, metal sounds for example). Sometimes they are originals of that featured person and sometimes they are non-originals that are just near and dear to them. This was later in the season where they performed duets together. The notable thing about this particular season (2019) was that Floor was still very much unknown to most of The Netherlands since metal music is not a common genre there. I wouldn't say it's looked down upon, but metal definitely regarded with the stigma of just being loud and brutal. In fact the only person that knew of Floor previously on the show was Tim (the intense guy in the Ramones t-shirt). So as a whole there is a pretty cool underlying story arch of the other singers (as well as The Netherlands as a whole) coming to realize how wonderful Floor is. I think you would definitely enjoy doing a solo-Floor side quest along side your Nightwish journey. It very much compliments your comment about that initial thought that "no way that lovely classical sound is the same as voice as that rock/metal sound". Great reaction. When she did this show almost nobody in that show or in her homeland Holland knew who she was. They only knew she sings in some metal band or something . All the other persons in this show are famous in Holland. So when she did her first song ,she blew them away and kept doing that every song. And they loved it. This show is no competition it's putting one person in the spotlight every week and the other singers do something from or for him/her. In this show you can see how versatile Floor is. Please do yourself and us a favor and do some more of her from this show. A nice one to start is Lady Gaga's Shallow. (her solo version) Also nice would be to see where she comes from and why Nightwish wanted her so badly. And see a side of her you haven't seen yet, try her former band Revamp with the song Disdain (live at Graspop 2010) Thanks

The singers on the couch probably had nothing but expectation rather than hope for the last note...they'd already experienced some wonderful performances over the previous shows. What they did say, is that with this performance they were all blown away with the sheer power and intensity of being so close to two epic singers. Their expressions tell the story. This 'Beste Zangers' series was wonderful throughout. A great format and some memorable songs (especially from Floor - but others as well). Emma Heesters singing Floors' own song 'strong' is well worth a watch...Henks 'sound of silence' too..

It was not the note, unless you have experienced the sheer actual volume room filling physical presence of real opera quality voice ....you can not imagine the power. It was not that she "hit the note" it was the culmination of that build ...and those two massive audio engines that required you to jump up , move, scream cry ...or something. I can not even imagine those two voices in that intimate setting. Would truly be mind blowing. Honestly you brain would have trouble even processing what you were experiencing.

this show is bascially where 7 singers from the netherlands come together and every week one of them is spotlighted and the other 6 sing songs that either the spotlighted person wrote/sang or one that is close to their heart. None of these people knew a whole lot about Floor before this other then her being some girl in a metal band,Floor was still unknown for the most part in her own country. The guy on the couch who you pointed out who was being intense and clapping etc his name is Tim Akkerman and he is somewhat familiar with Floor via the music festival circuit, he knows of Nightwish but I dont think he knew Floor's range. Floor herself is a huge Henk Port fan so being able to sing this with him I think is a dream come true for her. I recommend you react to all her performances on this show she will blow your mind. Also Henk does an incredible version of Disturbed's Sound Of Silence for Floor on the episode where she was spotlighted. Fun fact: Henk had never used distortion before its a huge taboo for classic/opera singers but he learned to do it in 2 hrs just for Floor so her huge grin and surprised expression was geniuine.

You will love Nightwishs arrangement also with their first singer Tarja & Marko as the Phantom. Do check it out - it's great. Btw Henk has only used distortion with his voice twice in his career - both times for honoring Floor in this show. :)

Very very good hey!! NW have a song called "Nemo"(which means nobody). There was a period when Tuomas felt like that and he made this beautiful song. The guy with the beard in this video is Tim Akkermans. He sang his rock version of Nemo to Floor and nailed it! He did also a duet with Floor of Lady Gaga's "Shallow"...imo much better than the original! Btw...when Floor asked Henk to do this Phantom duet he said "Ok..I do it but...only if I can do this duet with you when NW is performing in Amsterdam. And that they will do hopefully in November!

you must watch Henk Poort with Sound of Silence he did this especially for Floor Jansen . he even learned to sing with discourses in less than 24 hours especially for Floor . because he has never done this in the opera!

In the Netherlands she wasn't famous at all only in the underground metal scene but after this show she blew all the dutchies including me right from their couch and now she is well known here in the Netherlands how was it possible she wasn't but after this duet, yep everybody knows instant how great she realy is

Great minds think a like??? That is so corny! Just for having the guts to say that out loud, you got one... ;-) About the show: they are all singers and each episode one of them is "in the hot seat" and each other singer performs a song that has special meaning the person in the hot seat. It can be his/her first hit record, it can be a song from their childhood , a song that inspires him/her. But the artists performing will perform it the way they see fit. Translated, transposed to another genre, speed up, slowed down or original, anything goes... In this case Floor stuck to the arrangement that Nightwish performed before her time at the End of an Era tour, when Tarja still was the singer. In this final show they just had fun doing duets. Small tip: there are subtitled version including intro where the reason of choosing the song /backstory is explained. (they keep being removed and recreated ) The backstory really adds value. Floor has been a fan of Henk since she saw him perform the Phantom when she was only 13. Henk is one of the reasons Floor does what she does and why she said yes to coming on this show. At times you can really see Floor fan-girling around Henk. Henk only got to know Floor for this show, but after first hearing her sing he keeps giving those proud fatherly looks to Floor.
