The thunder at the start was because a thunderstorm was above the tent where in they performed. You never heard of Henk Poort while you love this musical? He was the Phantom for years in the 90's and was the best one .
Henk Poort is perhaps the best Dutch opera singer. He played the role of the phantom in the Dutch production of the musical and was even considered by Andrew Lloyd Weber as the best Phantom as of today... Henk played the role of the Phantom in the Dutch production many years ago. An amazing rendition of this wonderful song. Floor has also done a duet rendition with Henk of "Dangerous Game" from the musical "Jekyll and Hyde". Check it out. It is also done beautifully.
For me THE definitive version now, and the only one that has any chance of beating it will be when Henk holds Nightwish to their side of the bargain and performs it live on stage with them on their next dates in The Netherlands (his condition for performing it on this occasion with Floor). They have set a very high bar with this performance though. Henk is a very successful operatic baritone, who also does stage musicals and is best known in The Netherlands for being THE Phantom of the opera in the dutch production of the stage musical (over 600 appearances) and his appearance in Les Miserables. Floor had seen him in the role of The Phantom as a youngster, and it was quite funny to see her go all fan-girly at the prospect of meeting him when she learned they'd both be on the show together. Andrew Lloyd Webber has named him as his favourite of all the singers who have taken the role around the world, and who am I to disagree with the composer? I have known this song since it was first released, and have seen the musical at Her Majesty's Theatre (where it has just reopened after a break last year due to the pandemic), and I have to say I've never seen it done better, ever. As if any additional challenge were needed, the pavilion at the resort in Ibiza where they were performing this was being deluged under a massive storm That thunderclap at the beginning is not an effect, but was used by the band as a cue for starting, as it arrived at a near-perfect time. The rain was so torrential that the whole place was flooding and even the structure was getting swamped - if you look closely you can see streams of water falling all around them and in fact some gets on Henk's shoulder as he is singing. The weight of the water caused the fabric to sag and collect even more water until the structure was so close to collapse they had to split a few seams to drain water from it for safety. Several of the other singers on the couch have pulled their feet up to keep them dry. But Henk and Floor got up on that tiny stage and performed the best rendition of this song I have ever heard in my life, totally immersing themselves in their roles. For those few minutes, they are not acting or singing the roles of Erik and Christina, they ARE The Phantom and Christina. Then, to ice the cake for a finish, Queen to D6, Checkmate.
Henk Poort played the Phantom early 90s. Andrew LLoyd Webber said he was the best Phantom ever🥰🥰r!!! Floor is a huge fan of Henk ever since she saw him perform this role. They have amazing chemistry together❤

Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. @@marcch72 Technically you're right. But, for me it's my favorite and only opera I've ever seen. Maybe I should have wrote like that. I became a fan when I saw the black and white film as a little girl. And I've followed it ever since. I always felt sad for the Phantom. So, musical, movie, or opera, it doesn't matter to me. I think if you like this performance you have not hear before, the great opera singer in the opera like Traviata, Tosca, ecct., were the soprano Is soprano, the Tenore Is Tenore and not half or " di complemento".

Floor is of course beyond magnificent but Henk is awesome. He is NOT an opera singer as people keep saying, although he has some opera training-- his career and background is classical training and musical theatre and he is perhaps the best in the Netherlands. Henk was the Phantom in the Dutch productions and also sang the role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.
