VOCAL COACHES REACT: FLOOR JANSEN & HENK POORT - PHANTOM OF THE OPERA 

Floor Jansen é uma cantora de rock, mas tem formação clássica. Ela começou por causa de Henk Poort. Ela o assistiu no "Phantom of the Opera" (ele próprio fazia parte do Fantasma) e estava dizendo a si mesma: "Quero fazer isso e cantar como ele". Ela se tornou a Floor que é hoje, estudando e praticando inspirada em Henk, ela o adora.

Henk was the original phantom in the dutch version during the 90's he loves to reprise his role in english and with his newly found love for distortion along with his angel of music of 2019 ;p

I really really love how she couldn't stop smiling throughout the performance, and it looked like she was on the verge of crying several times. :)

Great reaction coaches. Floor and Henk are incredibly great singers. Their chemistry in this duet was perfect, one of the best duet I've ever seen in my life especially in this nowday's era.

Nightwish is going to allow Henk to join them to do this when they perform in the Netherlands. Gotta be honest, I only started watching this show for Floor, but ended up loving all of them. What a great show! Henk totally won me over throughout it, as well. Especially his Sound of Silence interpretation. Henk is a baritone. I believe Michael Crawford is a tenor. Probably why it was a bit lower than the original. I know there have been baritone Phantoms, though. Floor still held a D6 for 8 seconds with tons of power, and made it look easy. There's a video of her hitting an F6 on Romanticide, I saw her do an E6 in Orlando, so I don't think it was a matter of her range being limited. She just doesn't primarily focus on this type of singing.

Not to forget that if everything seems so easy for Floor, she's extremely talented for sure, but there's a hard work behind too ! Work alone is not enough, talent alone is not enough but she has both and we all hear the result. All the best to the two of you.

When & where?: Tv show was recorded outdoors on a rainy day in April 2019 at resort Atzaró on Ibiza Island. Not only Jansen & Poort sang live, also the MF Band performed live! during this TV show Best Singers. So, also credits to the MF Band with: Marcel Fisser (bandleader & lead guitar) - Gregor Hamilton (keyboards) - Marijn van den Berg (drums) - Serge Bredewold (bass guitar) - Martijn de Laat (trumpet) - Arno Slijper (piano / keyboards) ) - Edwin de Groot (guitar) - Lesley van der Aa (backing vocals) & headscarfed saxofonist (no name??). Info on the show by deva winblood: “Every one of those people on the couches were other Dutch vocalists. They took turns each week essentially serenading one of the other artists. They each would take songs from the catalog of the singer "on the couch" or that influenced them somewhere in their life and they would perform it with their own spin. Floor being from Nightwish, After Forever, Revamp, Ayreon, Star One, etc did amazing jobs. The week she was on the couch it is worth noting that ONLY the guy (Tim) referred to as the "Ramone's guy" flipping his hair did a Nightwish song (his remake of Nemo). Though Henk Poort did Disturbed's version of "The Sound of Silence" in that episode. This performance here is from duets for the last episode (season #12). It is also interesting that Floor is in what is with no contest the largest act any Netherlands born vocalist is in, but she was virtually unknown to the people of the Netherlands. Until this show. Nightwish is from Finland and they are the most popular act from that country and they get a lot of regular radio play. Nightwish is the popular music for Finnish people. :) Yet until now Floor was lesser known to the Dutch people. No more. There are a ton of reactions to this and pretty much everything she DID (and the other singers)...”

I really don't know what I enjoyed more, the duet or the two of you reacting to the duet...that was amazing on both of your parts and well the duet , the pros at the end who expected a great performance by this point in the show with Floor were even blown away!!! If there is a FORCE (Star Wars) then my friends this surely disturbed that FORCE this night!!! I am so sorry to see this show end like millions of other fans around the world. Nothing else like it on TV, vocalists fro different genres getting along and singing one another songs, true entertainment and uplifting, no competition, no scripted dramas, no voting just great singers doing what they do best and leaving us all a lot richer for experiencing this. Now we have to get our hands on the CD from this show. Henk sang this on the condition he gets to sing with Floor and Nightwish in Amsterdam at their sold out concert for November, 2020..can you imagine what that is going to sound like!!! One of the best reactions I have seen really well done and you guys still did great analysis even though you were as blown away as we the fans were.

They are doing the Nightwish version that they did with their first singer Tarja. Henk agreed to do this song if they did the Nightwish version. That is why the music was different and why Henk used the distortion in his voice. And also if they can sing this together at the Nightwish concert in November of 2020. He is also going to guest on the shows she is doing live in the Netherlands in January. They will be doing songs from this show and songs she has sang in the past with her bands. Thank you so much. Gostei da explicação de vocês sobre como Floor fez uma pequena alteração na nota final e como ficou com um brilho e sem falhas. Andrew Lloyd Webber escreveu essa peça na época em que era casado com Sarah Brightman provavelmente se baseando na tessitura dela, ela parece ter um alcance vocal um pouco maior que a Floor nos agudos, mas a adaptação ficou espetacular.

Haha, nice to see you two loving this. I agree with the part where Henk is really surprising us with his willigness to do some distortion, something opera singers frown at normally, and i always like it when singers try out something new. I missed a bit resonance from Floor, maybe the mic is not set perfectly. I love it when the last crescendo has a fuller, more rounded sound. But they picked the right key for both singers to be comfortable, and it payed off as it worked out really well for them. It doesn't always have to be the highest note. A good ending to this very interesting show "beste zengers", which came something of a surprise to me as i didn't know about it. a few words of appreciation to the other participants as well, they are all very good singers.

Henk has practiced vocal distortion only once before, when he did the disturbed version of Sound of Silence in the episode were Floor was on the couch. You should check it out, its awesome. Henk stated that he has never done vocal distortion before in his life because he is an opera singer and vocal distortionis a big no no in opera singing. So he really stepped out of his comfort zone for Floor. Go check it out!

Guys, Henk Poort was THE Phantom in Holland. He was Webbers favorite Phantom, he openly said. He was also one of the Thee Baritones. So yes, things song is burned in his brain. But...since Floor was fan of Henk as a little girl, he put a lot of distortion in the second part, for Floor. She promised him if he would do so, he will be on stage with Nightwish. They are good friends and Henk also played a big role in Floor's solo shows. Btw, this is not even the highest note she can reach, she reaches live in Romanticide a F6!!!! She has a range of 6 octaves, which is ridiculous good and without much tension and effort.

I think it was a great idea for him to put on distortion where he did. It actually suits the song better. It's not like when he sang " sound of silence", which was basically copying David Draiman's performance. This was his idea, and shows what an artist he is this time.
