Floria Foote Remembers the March on Washington 

While working in Chicago, Floria was aware of Dr. King’s efforts to desegregate her city because of the civil rights advocacy work he’d been doing. At that time, Floria hadn’t viewed the Civil Rights Movement as something she personally needed to be involved in. However, the March on Washington opened her eyes that the Movement was not just about what was happening in her world but what was happening in the world and the Black community at large. It was a real moment of awaking for Floria.
