All service and fraternal organizations are on the decline. The younger generations are non-joiners. I am also in the Knights of Columbus and we have the same problem. The Masons have had to start advertising on TV. It is sad.
Vet from persian gulf era. Have a wife and 11 year olds. Gen X and Millenials hang out with their families after work and the weekends. I don’t have time to volunteer till I am retired.
They embarrass me! I'm 65 and have been involved in many conflicts, from the Cold War to The War on Terror, while holding various positions of higher responsibility on submarines, surface vessels, and shore stations. I'd never join this Dumbed Down Club of morons. The VFW is just as bad, especially at the local level. They really don't do anything that really helps veterans in need. The most basic forms of assistance would be events like Operation Standdown; I don't know of one VFW or American Legion post ever holding one.
