TN fan here, I don’t know how we managed to win this game frankly. We should have been down by at least 0-20 in the first half. Your coach really blew it. As much as we want him to stay (for obvious reasons), it’s really time for him to go.
This loss is 100% on Billy. Four redzone trips and only 3 points to show for it. A competent coach wouldn’t run a jet sweep on 4th and inches. A competent coach would have put the 240lbs Lagway in for the sneak on the goal line. A competent coach would not have had 12 men on the field for the field goal to close the half. These issues are recurring failures under SunBelt Billy.
So a competent coach on 4th and short tries to QB sneak it despite UT having the better D line than our O line and their sole objective is to try and this from happening? This is pure hindsight stupidity. That play would haven’t slightly worked.
We definitely played like shit. I thought for sure yall would win that game in Neyland. I don’t know how we left with a win. Florida always gives us a hell of a game.
And that’s what’s so damn frustrating about it all. From the jump our players looked up for the challenge tonight. They are relying on the coaches to have them in position to succeed, and time and again they let our guys down.
I have a lot of respect for Billy as a person. We haven’t had an off the field situation, nobody questioning his effort in recruiting. He’s just simply not a SEC level coach. Wish him and this staff the best but let’s be realistic, the results are what they are.
Correct. I like him as a person, but the same mistakes keep occurring and loom costly. It’s about wins and losses ultimately. The pace and the game management aspect each week within this league is too much for him. He means well and has great ethics, but that can’t be enough for UF.
@@KLaw25 he can be a great G5 or HS coach because of his morals and ethics. He really can make a difference in kids lives by who he is. Hope he gets those opportunities and that he takes advantage of them.
That’s a very good comment. The team is getting better but the play calling and timeout mismanagement is unforgivable. I think Brian Kelly just sent lane to Florida though, so that is neat.
If he just had a good playcaller he could be a good coach at this level. Look how far the defense has come over the past couple of weeks. Not to mention we were rolling on offense until Graham and Montrell got hurt
@@gogators043he had the chance to make changes this offseason. No excuses. His team, his staff, his results. Again, I truly wish him the best but if we fired Mullen for keeping Grantham, Billy should get same treatment for not hiring an OC…
Shouldve been at least 24-0 at half. 4 red zone trips for 3 points unacceptable. The 4th down sweep and goal line qb run shoulda both been with DJ. Thankful to Graham for all hes done but its time to release DJ the rest of the way and the other freshmen
@@Erikdravenrain it’s also Vanderbilt and that program needed a complete overhaul from day 1. Florida’s always going to at least have a couple players for a new coach to inherit. Billy had Anthony Richardson, Jason Marshall is playing out of his mind this year, Ventrell Miller and Amari Burney were really good that first year. Gervon Dexter was really good for us (had to play a ton of snaps though so ran out of gas in games), Princley a projected 1st-2nd rounder Antwan Powell balling at VT… Napier had some good players when got here. Lea had nothing.
Exactly it’s “how” we lost. We took it to them defensively and limited that TN offense. Only for play calling in the redzone and special teams mistakes to ultimately be the reason we lost. The Vols are without question not a Top 10 team either…
@@KLaw25Agreed. Tennessee NEEDS to drop out of the top ten. They don’t deserve to be in the playoff discussion whatsoever. If my other team Oregon Ducks faced off against Tennessee, they better beat them to the absolute ground without mercy. I would’ve been so happy to have both Oregon and Florida parlays hit tonight…
5 times in the first half we were in the red zone and only got one score and it was a field goal, he had good play calls but there were too many times horrible offensive play calls cost us downs
Feel so bad for the players. He's a horrible coach. 4th and inches goes jet sweep(fail). On goal line he decided to let mertz qb sneak and not the 240pd qb(fail). Field goal 12 on field(fail). When are the boosters gonna wake up. Fire Billy
Not only that he called a time out when the clock was always stopped, a high tier coach would have ran the ball took the yards and took the field goal and we would have won the game 😂
4th and inches. We have a 6’3 240lb quarterback and what does Billy do? Line up in shotgun and run a jet sweep. The players did everything they good to win the game. Defense played their tails off. Coaching staff failed the players and the fanbase once more. It’s getting old. Billy and the coaching staff need to go
Only thing he need to be saying is....."this loss is 1000% my fault" but instead a bag of bullshit! When are the decision makers in Florida gone can this guy is my question? Dude is the worst HC in Florida football history!
The players showed up to play. They absolutely out played Tennessee. But their very own coach, Billy Napier robbed them out of a win. Billy Napier take a bow sir. Mission accomplished
Nobody is fooled by Florida's play calling... 2nd and 15 and Florida throws the ball 2 yards behind the sticks... 4th and 1/4 inch and you don't run your 240 pound QB up the middle... It's tough being a Gator...
Billy actually coached a very good game (disregarding the overtime). We had a lot of costly turnovers that were more or less the players fault when push comes to shove
@Astro-zm3ef Um, no. There were three critical calls that resulted in zero points instead of 17. Running up the middle when you're backed into your own end zone against the #2 rushing defense?? Idiotic. His plays are predictable. My blind dog knows what to do when the Gators line up in pistol formation. Yes, DJ threw an INT. That was a bad read. He's still adapting to SEC level defense. But, the deep throw to Dike? Mertz is not making that.
@@CTNCS_Gator fumbling at goal line, missing a block on a jet sweep (which wasn’t a great play but a missed block is a missed block), and 12 people on the field is not billy’s fault last time i checked. I think we as a fan base really need to check ourselves and focus on the fact we brought a team we were 15 point underdogs to overtime. defensively it was lights out and without graham the pocket fell apart. that’s not just coaching, that’s players
@@hardwiredtoself-destructio7614 calling a qb sneak regardless of who is in at that moment makes sense. mertz led the drive, he finishes. if you’re worried about a fumble (which we had no reason to be), then the rb should take it, not the qb
Jet sweep on 4th kinda killed me. Also going for 2 at end of the 4th? We were clearly Struggling to move the ball. Aside from that just a tough loss and that happens in sports
@@blades260We should’ve went for two when we had the momentum at the end of the game. All or nothing. Play action and wheel out. Should be a 55% chance to get the conversion. Would’ve closed the book on the game for sure!
@@LordTylerBluGunderson get 3 yards, and win the game? Or get 25 yards, and then a stop to win the game? What the fuck is that call man. Fuck billy napier.
This press conference should have went like this..."I blew it tonight, and I let these young men down by my poor play calling and lack of preparedness. No questions, because I admit this is on me. I contacted the pres and offered to lower my buyout to ZERO dollars."
I would love to get a Myers Briggs on this guy. He just doesn’t have the ability to say…”I screwed up - I failed the players.” He was clearly the reason why the team left all of this points on the field in the 1st half.
And the plays he call will cost someone to get hurt his play calling is horrible. The Gators will never get back to the top with strinklin🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️we could have kept Mullen for this bs smh
He’s fired. But we will be worse off if he’s fired today. Let’s let him play this season out. Just cheer on the orange and blue. He is our still our best option to win games this season. He can’t do enough to save his job so let’s just be gator fans for the next 6 weeks. You’ll get your wish. Brian Kelly = Santa Clause today.
You have to give credit where it’s due. I’m impressed this game was brought to overtime. Defense played incredible. Part of that is owed to the coaching. We just choked one too many times when we could’ve ended the game in the first quarter.
@@codymichels5360 we all wanted to be further along in our 3rd year with him. But sometimes it’s good to be realistic. He can’t pull a rabbit out of the hat. We can’t deny that we’ve seen improvements. The same Florida fans that are chanting “fire billy” would be all happy go lucky if we beat Tennessee tonight. If we fire billy, not only do we predictably lose almost our entire roster full of talent, but we also don’t have anyone worth their salt who would want to take his place. Who in their right mind would want to coach for a program that has a reputation for firing the head coach the moment things don’t go their way? Fellow Florida fans, let’s be smarter than that.
@@thechristmasproductions9232 100% agree. It's easy to yell fire him but then what? If we had not lost our top QB, top running back and top pass rusher we would have won this game. I think that DJ Lagway is the future but he is just a freshman and it shows. Look at Archie Manning in Texas, same story. Freshman QB need time to develop.
@@yvrgator definitely. Lagway was a bit shook up. I think he’ll perform better next week since he’ll be at home in the swamp. Lagway needs time, and I believe Napier does as well. Our defense was incredible tonight. I could not say that earlier this season.
Really, man this is really getting old every post-game presser. This guy is way over his head and really should be gone. At this point there is nothing else he really can say. Bad coaching in this game Napier gave this game to the VOLS.
"We" left opportunities on the field? Twelve players trying to kick a field goal before half time? Is that players fault or special teams coach? That little bitty 3 points could have won the game.
One other thing that I can’t believe people are not talking about is how bad Tennessee was allowed to encroach Alena scrimmage and on the edges it was unbelievable not one Offsides. It was just unreal. They were shooting in the gap before the quarterback could even take a step. Yeah, I won’t even go into the obvious Billy stuff. It’s just not even even worth going into anymore That’s a bad dream. Can’t wake up.
I’m grateful I’m alive to cheer my gators on !! Win or lose. I wake up work ,college football podcasts all day. for my gators to play on Saturday. Go gators. 🐊. Clean some things up. Billy still probably needs to go. Love my gators through thick and thin. Looks like we get what we wanted , we get lagway to start vs Kentucky. And probably for the rest of the season. I’m rooting for you kid ! You put us back into the game tonight. Let’s keep getting better. Go gators 🐊
You guys always give us a hell of a fight we got extremely lucky I really hope kiffin doesn’t end up in Gainesville . Hell of a game just extremely bad luck for you guys. GG
Kiffen can stay exactly where he at we need Edward James Orgeron Jr we need he's excitement and drive in this locker room cause Billy nonchalant ego having delusional ass ain't it🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
TN fan here. Can’t believe we win. Our offense is losing its mind. But don’t be that mad at your offense. Our defense is playing really well. Our offense just did 1 drive better tonight
Props to you for the respectful comment. However, this is nothing new or unique to the TN game last night. This has been going on for 3 years now under Napier. TN just happen to be the next opponent on the schedule where the same issues surfaced once again. Between the 20’s we moved the ball very well all night long. We were 3-6 in the redzone with 17 points to show for it. Napiers playcalling in the redzone was the downfall (as it has been). That’s not us discrediting TN either - it’s just the facts we’re facing with him. Our defense played well and did its job in regulation. It was enough. Billy as the playcaller is the dagger.
Feel the same about Huepel. Lol...he almost lost at home to Florida. The only way y'all win is horrible play calling and coaching by UF. Y'all's schedule is soft and y'all aren't any where near as good as y'all thought. Hope Huepel gets several more years so we can hopefully get rid of our loser AD and coaches, and get way ahead of y'all.
We should have won this game and the fact it was such a close game with the number 8th ranked in the state we deserve better the boys tried there hardest we could have been 24-0 by halftime if we got this missed point opportunities but go gators!!!!!
Tennessee's defense won this game. Florida can get to the red zone but you still have to score and Tennessee came up big on D time and time again. The only time I thought the D came up short was on the last touchdown florida scored. Heavy pressure was affecting Lagway quite a bit and on that play Tennessee decided not to pressure him. He had time and found a crease. Tennessee should have also had more points in the first half but Nico missed wide open receivers down the field. This is typical Florida - Tennessee football games.
Ima leave this here, i know mullen quit on this team and thats a shame, but i wonder if he had been coaching game if we would have lost! Its obviously the play calling thats keeping this teamfrom from going to the next level! The talent is there!
I’ve never seen so many of the same mistakes made week after week by a sports team. There has been no progression whatsoever. They can barely beat mediocre teams and they get blown out or find ways to lose against above average teams. It really is fascinating to watch.
In the first half alone he chose to go for a first down instead of kicking a short field goal and lost. He chose to use his last time out early instead of having it to kick the field goal at the end of the half. And the fumble at the goal line sealed their fate.
Billy said the same thing - again. He stopped short of taking responsibility for the bad decision on 4th and 1. If the special teams were playing so well, then he should have let Smack try a 35 yard field goal. “Great play by their corner”? Way to not take responsibility for a bad call that YOU made.
7:11 THATS the problem… “I had a front row seat to it…” no, gator nation has been forced to watch this week after week in the front row. Billy coaches like he isn’t allowed to adjust mid game
I'm a Gators fan for 44 years now, and these offensive schemes Billy using is elementary a very Amateur play calling 4th and inches QB sneak under center... NO Brainer... There are so many waisted opportunities.. Billy is not built for the SEC, just the reality of the situation...
Player talent certainly isn’t the issue. Instead it’s Napier’s penchant for repeatedly putting his players in a position to lose games that his players were clearly capable of winning. Its. Disgusting.
