Back home in Florida! I am looking for that Tarpon, Snook, Redfish or Trout that I have been missing. Trying out some new spots with some new friends. Shell mound, near Cedar Key Florida dates back to AD 450…. Many of the shell bars were created 1500 years ago by the local Indians from simple subsistence on the shell fish in the area. According to historians, the shells were disposed of in a manner that created bars in the waterways that would trap mullet at low tide for consumption. The bars are still there today and create a fantastic fishery. Come along and enjoy the day with me… Tight Lines!

I just camped and fished Shell Mound a couple of months ago and made a video of it. I caught so many rat reds I lost count but did snag a nice 19" trout on the west side of Hog Island.

Thanks for the comment and tight lines! I think that big one was a tarpon. I saw the dorsal fin and tail.... but the camera did not pick it up well. Lets fish soon.

Hi Kevin, You had a good mix of fish. There always seems to be something biting in the Gulf. We got into a school of snapper blues yesterday. They were all small but fun to catch. Good luck, Mickey

Hi Mickey... as always, thanks for the comment and tight lines. I always had a good time catching snappers... not stop action when you get into them. I started finding some fish in this hot weather down here, so hopefully I can put some on video for you guys and gals out there. Tight Lines.. Kevin

Hey, made it to SMFL, Shell Mound is on my list. Could we give it a try?

Are you on Facebook? If so, send me a friend request and I’ll give you some screenshots with some spots! If not, straight off the shell mound ramp is hog island...good fishing all around that island. Also, slightly NW of ramp is Garden island...good fishing. The bars in the middle just south of the ramp always produce.... live shrimp, pin fish, cut bait all work well

Also, if you’re willing to pay for charter check out Cedar key paddling (CKP charters). Captain Danny Morgan will put you on fish!

@@FloridaKayakFishing Dont do FB...thank ou very much for info and referral to CKP.. Thats what I needed... After this strong front what would you expect? How long for the fish to get back on the bite?? Clearly, newbie question...

They’ll bite for sure! Trout bite will be on fire fish in the deeper currents. Reds will be in the holes. I fished last Friday it was 34 degrees at sunrise. Got a 25” red and 2 overslot trout plus a bunch of smalls. Good luck!

I just bought a new Seaghost 130. What paddle do you use? Not sure how to rate them. I have a Field & Stream 240 cm 32 oz carbon fiber. Can I do better? ....Newbie

Thanks for the comment and tight lines! I have the stock Vibe paddle, which is 130 cm. Works just fine for me. Check out the Vibe owners group on FB... great group. If you post this paddle question there, guaranteed they will tell you to get a bigger one... Tight lines!
