Just purchased a Sea Eagle 472 (two person). My wife and I are getting ready to head to Florida from Ohio. We just put the kayak under the bed of our travel trailer and take it out and set up when we get to our destination. For the last four years we've been using an the Advance Elements Convertible inflatable and like really liked it. However, we added a "drop stitch" floor to it and it really improved the performance and comfort. After seeing the advantage of adding the new floor we decided that an entire kayak made with "drop stitch" would be worth a try. Thanks and great video...we plan on trying out Silver Springs.

Hi Dariush - It’s a little bit of both. As you get more used to it, the boat will definitely feel more stable to you. Adding the skeg, definitely adds even more stability. Hi! The SeaEagle realty does paddle nicely. It comes with a removable fin, like you typically see on paddle boards. I thought I would need that , but actually prefer it’s paddling performance without the fin. So, I never use the fin. I really like the way it paddles, you can even edge the boat for more efficient turning.

@@KayakCliff The weight and 500lb capacity definitely makes it interesting. I wonder as far as inflatables in general how would they hold up for kayakers who like to fish as well. I'm wondering if a wrong hook set meeting up with the kayak would puncture it. Definitely looking forward to the review.
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 3 года назад
For fishing, you would have to put a milk crate with vertical rod holders behind you. There’s enough room. You would need to just lay the rod between your legs with the tip of the rod extending past the bow while you are paddling and alternately using your rod. Puncturing the kayak with a treble hook lure is something you need to be cautious of, be careful of hook sets close to the boat. Bottom line, if you puncture it, you have two other air bladders out of the 3 total that will get you to shoreline. It comes with a real nice patch kit in a nice heavy duty waterproof case, so you can fix your link easily.

@@KayakCliff Hi Cliff, great videos. I've been a Sea Eagle kayak fan for a decade, and added a Razorlite to my collection last month. I had notice in some of your videos you were using an ORU foldable kayak. I've been a bit more curious about folding kayaks lately after seeing TuckTech's ad that their kayak can be setup in under 2 minutes. I then looked into ORU who first popularized folding kayaks. Tear down time is also an equal consideration. I own 6 Sea Eagle kayaks, but TuckTech caught my attention. How do you honestly like the Razorlite vs the ORU? What are the pros & cons? Should I even think of adding one of those to my collection, so stick with just inflatables? My Razorlite bought from a 3rd party is missing the skeg, but I've ordered one from Sea Eagle. Totally agree it paddled surprisingly well with no skeg. I liked that I could go even shallower that before.

Correction on some misinformation provided in this video: Kayaking Silver Springs is NOT FREE. There is a $2 park fee and a $4 launch fee. On busy weekends you could probably launch without paying and get away with it as there's no one checking receipts; it's pretty much the honor system. I hope that's not what you did because it's only $6 bucks and paying that helps maintain the park. Be honorable and pay the modest fee to enjoy this beautiful natural resource. It's a bargain. You mentioned a couple of times being able to catch the shuttle back to the launch even if you bring your own kayak. That is true. But what you failed to mention is that you can't just catch the shuttle ad hok. You must make a reservation before you launch (like when you pay your park and launch fees), so they can put you on a list. You don't have to pay in advance, but you do have to reserve a seat on the shuttle in advance. Failing to mention this fact puts your viewers in bind. If they're not on the list for the shuttle ride they're going to have to paddle back against the current (weather they like it or not), try to sweet talk their way onto the shuttle without a reservation, or find some other way to get themselves, their kayak and gear back to the launch site.
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 2 года назад
Believe me, no mis-information intended on my part! I paid for the pickup shuttle in advance at the launch site. Assumed my launch fee was included in that. I looked long & hard for any information about a launch fee, but saw nothing. When paying for the pickup fee, they new i was launching at that time, because I told them so. Assume it was probably mixed up in the pickup transport back fee. I am NOT the type of person that desires to or feels like he needs to skip out on paying fees, I get it. I believe my message in the video was clear about where you need to launch and where you need to take out. I believe I even talked about fees that I paid. . . Oh well, thanks for the heads up anyway and sorry for any mishaps in conveying that message. Safe adventuring out there!

Hi Cliff. Sea Eagle sent a link to this video in my email so I figured I'd watch it again. I'm sure it's a great place to visit, but my wife is terribly afraid of gators and I hear your almost certain to see them at Silver Springs. At Weeki Wachee where we went last month I hear it's highly unlikely. I'd feel safer on my Paddleski than my Razorlite around gators, but would rather avoid them. I bought a selfie stick for my Go Pro Hero 7 Silver, but forgot the underwater housing so the camera didn't even fit on the the selfie stick without it. attempted to take some clips on the Weeki Wachee river without, but my Go Pro very quickly crash. By far the most unreliable camera of any kind I've ever had. I need to write to Go Pro and tell them how bad this model is. I hear the others are fine however. I got it as a gift, but definitely have not got our money 's worth with this Go Pro and a lot of great missed videos. We also took one of our Paddleski's to the Crystal River. Absolutely love my Razorlite 393RL, my Paddleski 473ps and my other Sea Eagle inflatables! These are wonderful kayaks/boats! The Razorlite is both fast, and "effortless" to paddle. I've never had any kind of boat that paddled nearly as easily, and it's portability is incredible. It's a real joy to paddle the Razorlite. I've been paddling/rowing 45+ years, most of my life. The comparably priced hard shell kayak I paddled in September did not seem any easier, faster or stable, and would be far greater effort to transport. The Razorlite comes with a back pack, can easily fit in any car, and can be carried to remote locations.
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 2 года назад
Hi there! You are absolutely right in your assessment of the RazorLite! Very fast and very capable boat! Definitely more than crosses over the gap between inflatables of the past and current hardshell kayaks. I have had every model of GoPro for the last six years. The GoPro hero 10 is the first one that I have had that does not have the glitches the others did in the past. I understand that the GoPro hero 10 was the first time they had upgraded the processor since the GoPro hero six. They doubled the processor speed and I find that the hero 10 model performs better than anyone I have ever used. I love it!

@@KayakCliff I'll have to look into the GoPro Hero 10. The 7 Silver should be recalled it's so troublesome. I haven't looked yet, but I'm wondering if I even got one minute of footage on the Weeki river. Can't wait for some more warm weather to use my Razorlite & Paddleski's.

Keep in mind that September or October of every year, GoPro introduces the newest line of cameras. The Word on the street is GoPro is going to introduce four new cameras this fall. I highly recommend that you sign up and join gopro@gopro.com. It’s like $50 a year. It gets you like $100 off on the cameras. It gets you unlimited cloud storage for all of your footage and it gets you, I believe, lifetime unlimited returns for defective / broken material. For me, the unlimited cloud storage for all of my footage is well worth the $50 a year alone.

Cliff, every time I think about sticking with a hard shell kayak, I stumble across your videos with such positive reviews for the 393RL. This kayak would be so much more convenient when I'm camping (I tow a 5th wheel so I lose a lot of truck bed space), but this would fit nicely. I do have a question though. I live in AZ and do most of my kayaking here--at least at the moment. A few people have pointed out that the SE 393RL does not have a pressure release valve for when the air expands in the heat. You paddle in hot states as well--TX and FL (and probably more, but I've only seen you in these places so far), has pressure/expansion been a concern--even a little bit? Is this something I should even worry about? Thanks for the videos!
@KayakCliff
@KayakCliff 2 года назад
Hey there AllonsY! Thanks for watching and your comments! Living in Texas, I have not had any problems with expanding air in my Sea Eagle RazorLite. I get what you are saying, but I don’t think you will have any issues with it hurting your hull. As a preventative measure, if they are going to be sitting out in the sun for a few hours with no use on the water, you could simply do a short press of the air valve to release about a second or two of air, then put a few pumps back in prior to using the kayak again. Here is a great torture test video that Sea Eagle did on their Explorer kayak, which has the same level of construction that the RazorLite has. If it can withstand this type of back pressure from a Jeep driving over it, then I think it will withstand temperature differentials very well. For portability without sacrificing performance, the SeaEagle is a MUCH better choice than an origami style folding kayak. I’ve had two of those and will never go back to them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ardGNdwZ0aQ.html

I still have two Jackson journey 14 foot touring hard shell kayaks. Love them! I just find myself using the RazorLite a lot more. I will always keep the hard shells, because they are unique to paddle in and if it is extremely cold, it’s nice to be down inside them and out of the elements with a skirt on. Like you said, depends on what you are doing. I think that I will find that most of the time I’m going to paddle the razor light and I’m eventually going to get an explorer and a fast track.

Hi Jacob - I just screwed in some Yak Attack gear track. The key is to caulk around the threads of the screws to keep the seal tight so you don’t deflate the kayak. Lol - I’m just kidding, I couldn’t resist. I had to get creative on how to mount a camera. I thought about if for about a week and finally came up with what really worked well for me. I have several suction cup RAM mounts with GoPro mounts on them. All I did was take a 3 gallon Home Depot type bucket and set it in the kayak in front of me upside down. I simply suction cupped the GoPro / RAM mount to the underside of the bucket and it worked great!!! When there’s a will, there’s a way. I had to think about it for a while though . . . Hi 👋 Richard - In the extremely unlikely event of a gator attack, there are 3 strong air bladders in case 1 is compromised. I wouldn’t want to be attacked by a gator in a plastic boat either. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone. I think you have a better chance of getting struck by lightening.
