Technically it just said he was working at the tent. It didn't say he lit one off while in the tent. I assume they took it outside. Still dumb to light while holding it but so many of us have been guilty of that.

My rule is to not light fireworks at all. It is a primitive reflex to need to see flames or sparks. It is what you would think a caveman would enjoy. Celebrate Independence Day with a feast, a sombre ceremony of how America became her own entity. Recognize the indigenous cultures that accepted us. Be THANKFUL that we were accepted by some and respectful of those that did not accept us.

Fuses jump I've learned from being dried out and old, never hold them in your hand. Back in the days this stuff was against the law, now we know why, but its about money now.

I recall having these "mighty mites" that had ridiculously fast fuses when I was like 14 or so. I'm kind of surprised my friends and I kept all our fingers with how many we threw. They packed more punch than black cats, but maybe they wouldn't blow off fingers like a cherry bomb or artillery shell. Had one blow up in my hand when I brought it up near my ear to throw it, lol. It only left a black mark and stung a bit (hand and ear), but I knew not to hold them too tight.

There's supposed to be a delay after a firework is lit. 99.9% of the time, there is a delay. But that .1% is always lurking out there. Fireworks, hand-grenades, anything designed specifically to explode.

I gave up on fireworks back when I was just a kid, during the 60's. I had a regular Blackcat fire cracker blow up in my fingers. Luckily all I got was severe burns, blood blisters and lots of pain, all my fingers survived.

Back in the '60s, I wasn't even allowed to have Blackcats. I had to have those less-powerful tiny red firecrackers and I had to put them on the ground before I lit it with a punk.

My cousins used to get those red firecrackers as well. They amused themselves by lighting them in the car while driving and throwing them out the window. One blew back into the car almost immediately after they threw it and it went off on the car floor. I figured I would be better off not joining them in these rides.

How did he light it (lighter or punk)? What kind of fuse did it have? Was it meant to be thrown? Was it an artillery shell that was meant to be put down in the pipe with the fuse sticking out the top? Did he try to relight one that had most of the fuse gone?

I feel so fortunate when I see stories of ridiculous mishaps that something like this could never happen to me. Danger isn't my middle name, and fireworks are silly.

Back in '79 (I believe it was) I bought an assortment of fireworks to set them off in the parking lot of my apartment complex, as a show for the residents there, About that time, my roommates moved out and the next day, came back, broke into the apartment, found the fireworks and set them off inside the apartment (we never found out why they'd done it, but they must have not liked me as much as they acted like they did). Since then, I haven't bought another firework because that could happen again, even if I am living alone.

We used to always hold roman candles all the time. One night i didnt feel right about it as a friends was about to light one off. I told him better off not holding it and thankfully to my advice and stuck it in the top of a stop sign post! Next thing that stop sign was flying down the street! Ill never forget that!

😢😮 I'll just say this guy's lucky to be alive. He's going to get another chance to live his life. How long he's going to live? I saw a report on RU-vid yesterday. A guy lit a firework device with some type of metal helmet on us had and he was 41 years old and he was drunk and he passed away. After that it's too bad now. The wife of the deceased husband is a widow and I guess he had children too. I feel sorry for the family. I would never hold one of them fireworks in my hands. They're unpredictable and then they can go off. Thank you. I feel sorry for this guy. I just seen this video. He lost his fingers. He has my sympathy.

Jesus! My kids never understood why we didn't have home fireworks. Buddy (and that older Chinese video with guy with his hands near blown off) are clear examples of why it is left to be left to the professionals. Even 'smart people' get 'blown up.'
