Gino Colonacosta and his 15-year-old son stalked and shot at a woman sitting in her car outside of her apartment. I found a cell phone in the street. I waited for someone to call, So, I could return the phone. The phone rang at 3 "AM" in the middle of the night. I answered it. The very first thing I said was. I found this phone. I don't know who it belongs to. I could drop it off at the police station or I can mail the phone. The guy on the other end, accused me of stealing his phone and I better give it back. He told me...... He's gonna take care of me, when I 'bring' him, his phone. I hung up the phone, put it in a trash bag, got dressed, jumped into my car, drove 7 miles away from my house and threw the phone off the pier into the river.

Had a similar experience myself. Amazon delivered a package to my house that was addressed to a house a couple houses down. I carried it over and knocked on the persons door and when the lady answered she flat out accused me of attempting to steal her package and started yelling and acting crazy. The cops came to my house about 30 minutes later and as usual since I was the one being accused they didn’t listen to anything I had to say until I finally very loudly asked “would anyone like to see my ring camera footage of the package being delivered and me picking it up and then walking to the right house?” They let me out of the cuffs and allowed me to show them the footage and walked down to the woman’s house to inform her. 3 years later, not only has that woman still not apologized, she still tells people I tried to steal her package.

They are damn lucky there was no baby in that seat or they'd be facing first degree murder charges. The gun toting minor would be tried as an adult. I walked a mis-delivered package a few doors down a couple months ago before Christmas. I live in a neighborhood where there aren’t thieves stealing packages off people’s front porches. This is how adults behave in society.

The last time I tried to return a mis-delivered piece of mail, I got the cops called on me. I had got (presumably) a credit card statement in the mail, and by the time I had partially opened it, I realized the address was a few blocks over. I walked it over and explained (via their Ring cam lol) that I lived around the corner, and that I had started opening it, but stopped when I noticed the address. About a week later, police were at my house asking about it. Thankfully, they pretty much understood what was going on from the get-go and nothing became of it. Going forward, I'm just going to let USPS take over with wrong deliveries.

I've had two packages mis-delivered to my house. The first time, it was USPS. I walked it down the street and rang the doorbell. As I stood there, I noticed they had received a package addressed to my daughter. Instead of walking 3 houses down, they had marked it "not at this address," even though the address on the package was not theirs! When they answered the door, I gave them their package and told them that I was taking the package addressed to my daughter. They were a little embarrassed. The second time, I carried a pretty big box to the same address, one street over. After I rang the bell, a woman came out of their garage and acted like I was doing something nefarious. I walked over to hand her their box, said it had been delivered to me, and told her I saw my box on their porch, and I was going to take it. She clearly hadn't paid attention: she asked me why I was going to take a package delivered to them. I again explained that her box was delivered to me, and my box was on her porch. I didn't think about being shot. I just went and got my box -- and told her, again, the boxes were switched.

@@vdub2002 We have neighbors about our age, and we get each other's mail a lot. (Same street #, one street over). We have been returning mail to each other for years now. We have with others in our neighborhood too. The USPS recommends you return the item to them and they will redeliver it. When my middle son was born (1/1975), there was a blizzard. The husband of the new mother sharing my room was unable to get into town to pick her and the baby up. She came to our house to wait for him. He got there and I fixed soup and sandwiches for everyone. He was a mechanic and told us a story of how he had stopped to help some people up on the mountain pass near where we lived. He had his tools and thought he could help. While he was looking under the hood of their car, they hit him with a wrench from behind, knocking him out. They proceeded to beat him so badly surgeons had to remove pieces of his jaw bone. They stole his truck and tools and left him to die. Another driver saw him and went for help. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital to recover. He said he would never stop to help anyone again! So there were crazy, violent people back then too It's nothing new.

Similar story, different ball game. While bicycling I found two bank cards on the highway near a traffic signal. Nothing else nearby of relevance (no purses, no wallets, no clothes, nothing but tiny bits of gravel), and they happened to have two completely different names on them. Pretty much a "whatever," but I didn't recognize the one bank, so I looked it up. Nigeria! I'm thinking of their online email scams. So I call the local police, want to give 'em the cards. "Just bring them to us," the officer said. So I did. Couldn't find the front door. Hmmm. Interesting. So I went to the parking lot, saw two cops walking. Rode my bicycle to them, announced my intentions. They stopped. I told them everything that happened. Female cop never said "Boo!" and the male cop took the two cards. It was a windy day, and while I was making my exit he told me: "Don't get blown away." Potentially help the local coppers solve a case, and get your life threatened. I never said anything untoward, I said only the facts of the case as I knew them, but I wasn't dressed like someone who paid a lot of taxes. I am a low-income man. Have I learned my lesson? Poignant I think this goes hand in hand with what people are saying about problems with-anxiety, divisiveness I’m reckoning with this my self-all those movies I saw about the thrill and righteousness of getting revenge. To be fair, it’s a classic story which of course can be used to entertain-but these things can easily become problematic for a decent chunk of the population

The biggest flaw with stand your ground laws is that it makes culpability for murder based entirely on feelings. If you feel threatened or in danger that is enough, it doesn't matter if the other party was actually a threat or not as long as you feel that they were.

Not true. Reasonableness comes into play. That's why these guys are facing charges, even though they may have believed they were about to get robbed.

@@dancingferret6654 They did not think they were about to get robbed the women that they shot at thought she was getting robbed. These 2 heard someone deliver a misdelivered package, thought it was a bugler with no evidence and then went confronted a woman just sitting in her car while brandishing weapons and then opened fire on her when she tried to leave because she thought she was getting robbed. That is not reasonable, she was trying to run away there was no threat that warranted any of their actions let alone attempted murder. But that is not even the point. Laws for self defense were already on the books. The specific laws for stand your ground are the problem, it causes people to think they have legal cover for escalating situations until they become deadly.

I used to deliver in the countryside for Amazon, in a marked company van (Prime). Never had any issues entering a property in 3 years save for one elderly lady pulling a shotgun on me for coming just a bit after dark. Never put away her weapon, recieved her package fair and square, tracked me with the gun and escorted all the way out of her driveway. never said thank you, but she oddly did immediately apologize when i explained that I was delivering her package. even more odd that she never put the gun away after laughing it off and saying sorry. weirdo
