Join me for the final leg of my Florida to The Bahamas adventure! In this final part 4 of 4 video series I travel in a small boat skiff from Freeport , Grand Bahama to Sweetings Cay, a beautiful Bahamas Island that is the PERFECT spot to explore with a small boat skiff ! After spending time exploring I then travel back to the West End of Grand Bahama and cross the Gulf Stream completing my small boat journey From Florida to the Bahamas and back from the Bahamas to Florida! Thanks for watching and be sure to checkout the first 3 videos of building a skiff in 24 hrs and our adventure to the Bahamas!
Special thanks to my buddy Travis Stotz for all the awesome drone footage!!

Nice episode man!! Watched all your videos in one sitting a while back and immediately subscribed. I love your videos because your attitude is the opposite of most nowadays. I grew up going to the islands (and the entire family of 5) sleeping on a 22 center console. These days if you don’t have trips, an automatic sunshade, 7 LP plugs etc guys think you’re crazy haha. Nice to see someone keeping it very simple! What we need and what we want gets murky sometimes.
@diywaterworld
@diywaterworld Год назад
You hit the nail on the head friend! It's funny how we tend to complicate things as humans and forget how things once were.... the "more is better" mentality has taken over nowadays. hearing how you guys did trips on a 22 cc takes me back and it's exactly what I was fortunate enough to see and experience growing up in south florida. Hat's off to your family for showing you "the way", sounds like we were both extremly lucky to have such experiences. Back then you actually worked on your own boats/ kept them maintained and knew the systems in and out, you naturally progressed as an ocean man and became familiar with your vessel and waters. You paired up with some buddies and made the crossing when the weather was right, if something happened you made it work, and relied on one another. Technology was minimal and you relied on planning, preparation, learning, experience from elders and with YOURSELF and you didn't do things to gain validation from a social media driven group of strangers. You did it for yourself because you were drawn to it and it truly made us happy! It's why our families and friends did it and it was the way! I get a bit of comments here , and also from friends /family thinking i'm off my rocker, and maybe there's a little truth to that haha, but the reality is i'm doing things that have been done many times before, by folks we grew up idolizing and who make me honestly feel like an inexperienced 45 year old kid at times haha. The benefit we have , I have, is that technology has improved vastly and while I use a compass for a majority of my travels, I still have tucked away in a dry/ditch bag my communications/epirb/inflatable pool raft, water, mirror, strobe, and fins, along with some other goodies. At the end of the day I look at it very simply, folks have crossed the atlantic in boats under 10ft in length. I'm making a short crossing, and if the Ocean gods decide to deal me with a card i'm unprepared for or cant handle, I trust my experience and training to make the right decisions and stay calm, and truthfully.... 'm okay floating in the gulf stream on a raft with drinking water , communications and signal devices until my friends arrive. Just as we relied on frineds by buddy boating years ago, I still rely on my network based on land both Bahamas and Stateside. :) I'll be getting into this topic/ sharing in detail the process and logistics of my trips in an upcoming video. I appreciate as always your comments and sharing your awesome Bahamas experiences with us. Cheers!

When I was a young man, I single handed a small 19' skiff with a 15 hp outboard from Suva to Kadavu in the Fiji islands. About 100 Nautical miles in very challenging conditions across the channel. To bad that was before GoPro. lol. To be honest it was a pretty humbling experience. I found your channel and saw the genuine love you have for the ocean and boats which reminded me of myself. Thanks for making these videos... Cheers..

Good on ya. I've crossed to Bimini twice in my Cobia 220 and paddled back twice in the Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis (once in a Hobie kayak, once in an outrigger canoe). Going to do it again in my OC1 in June. There is no comparable feeling to being in the middle of the gulf stream in a tiny watercraft.

Cheers my man! 👊🏼 and right?! This works is brainwashed into thinking we need to keep up with the “neighbors” to go out and have fun. And when it comes to boats everyone always thinks bigger is better. The sad truth is weekly there are boats WAAAAY bigger then my skiffs that are out in peril / sink / or have massive failures due to completely preventable actions/ maintenance/ decisions. “ it’s the Indian not the arrow”. Me and my buddies used to hunt out of a boat like that back here in Mississippi when I was young. We used to run up the Yazoo and Mississippi Rivers. We called it the hog hunter, because it was so ugly, it was green and dirty. I see now we never gave her the respect she deserved. You are brave .

But I learned years ago in teaching Freediving that you never know, 1 person could walk into a class, change your life, empower others , inspire or could be someone you help guide, influence, jumpstart a new passion in life. We all are floating around on this earth and you just never know the impact we all can have on one another. I share here because I’ve always loved paying it forward, inspiring, but the selfish truth is that I also take so much from everyone here with your awesome comments , wether it be sharing an idea , or sharing an experience , or pushing me outside of my comfort zone. I feel I truly recieve more then I give on this platform. For that I’m thankful.

So the reason I subscribe is because I love boating and the bahamas. I’ve crossed 66 times in 5 different boats. NOT a bass boat though. Your channel is real and not paid for my some big company. You’re totally crazy which I relay to oh so well. You try things “because you can”. I love that! Good job!

I’m watching for two primary reasons. First your fun to watch and your excitement brings many a smiles. Secondly I’m interested in building a thin skiff type boat but with a out riggers on the bow to support a fish casting deck. You have shown glasswork and that sir is why. I’ll leave some comments with hopes to get more👍for ya.

Nice video, whether working on the race skiff or crossing the Gulf Stream, great action. I have a 1648 riveted aluminum Jon boat with a 25 Evinrude. I’ve used it for crabbing mostly, for the last twenty years or so, it’s been a great rig. I started watching Jon boat videos recently, and found how to convert my 25 to a 35, so I’m gonna start looking for a carb & manifold from a 35 for the conversion. I’ll build a Jack plate and get it dialed-in for top speed performance. I don’t know how fast it goes now with the 25. I’m going to take it out and run it empty to get a baseline top speed to work from. I’ll put up a video when I do it. I also have a Ranger R91I with a 200 Mercury EFI. It will do close to seventy, which is plenty fast for me. Now I’m gonna play with my Jon boat and see how fast I can make it run…you have inspired me…LOL

Great to hear you’re going to turn it into a new project / give it a new lease on life. Keep me posted! Let me know how your search for manifold / carb goes. I know I’ve got a bunch of intakes I could offer and I’ll double check my 35 hp carb inventory haha. Cheers !

I’ve got a small 19’ Kevlar bass boat that bags a soft floor spot. Watching you tear into one with confidence and knowledge seems worlds away, but I learn something every time I get to watch. I just like watching you take something that is at the end of its life to most and give it a new breath ready for adventuring. Hope to move to the gulf coast for retirement and build a skiff project of my own to bounce around in Mobile Bay.

You ask why people subscribe. For me: I grew up in south Florida, around boats, but our family moved north before I could get the full boating experience (the way you are). So, I watch, and wonder how it could have been. I'm a risk taker. I could have seen myself taking a small boat to The Bahamas. In fact, I have a "skiff" you would dig, for sure! It's a Sea Ray Laguna 13 with a Yamaha 30, a custom built side console made of teak, by me. We take it out on the lake right up the road. People alway ask if I'll sell it. I should name it "Knot For Sail" Hahah. Love your videos!

I subscribed and watch your channel because you’re living the life I want to live! You seem like a simple happy soul doing what he loves. Definitely started watching because of the how to projects as I to am working on boats big cat for retirement and a little 16 foot runabout. So keep doing what you doing brother make things smile live in love! When I was looking at Hulls for my rrunabout projects skiffs were definitely in the top as I want a shallow water runner. I chose to do a V hull, 60s fiberglass with a JetSki engine and drive! Wondering if you would ever do something like that in a little skiff? I know I’m thinking of that being my next project.

I'm here to tell you, some of the skiffs you build and venture out on are absolutely remarkable! Im sure I would not have the balls to cross the gulf stream to the Bahamas in some of them, but you are definitely one bold dude. I give credit where credit is due, you are the man!

Thank you, I appreciate this a bunch. Your enthusiasm rocks! the reality with these crossings is I do them with / without you tube. They truly resonate within me. It does seem pretty insane ( and for good reason) but the prep / planning/ experience/ safety measures go so much farther then what is shared here. I have been working on a detailed video about these crossings and I hope to release soon. :) cheers my friend!
